Light curtains in the living room can give air and visual volume to the room. This is especially valuable in rooms of a small area with one window, as well as in those rooms that do not overlook the sunny side. Curtains from a veil or organza are the best option in those cases when you want the room to remain filled with fresh air and sunlight.

Features

Since curtains are most often sewn from a veil or organza, as well as tulle, they have excellent throughput properties for light and air. Due to their subtlety and weightlessness, they absolutely do not interfere with the movement of air flows in the room. They can be both natural and artificial, both options look great. Curtains made from natural fibers are much more expensive, so they are used less often.

You can decorate window openings with light curtains in any living room. Hi-tech or eco style can be organically complemented with linen curtains, possibly coarse. Provence or country styles are decorated with finely printed curtains with a floral pattern (in the first case) and geometric (in the second). Translucent two-layer curtains are ideal for creating the effect of scattered sunlight, so beloved by many for their sense of coziness and comfort.

Distinctive properties of a veil

To the main features of translucent interior fabrics can include:

  • excellent ability to transmit light and air;
  • nice texture, soft and smooth;
  • widest choice;
  • the ability to maintain a given shape, excellent drape;
  • susceptibility to mechanical damage - it is not difficult to hook, tear, burn such products with an iron;
  • fabrics are very wrinkled;
  • Do not lose their properties for a long time with proper use.

Color palette

The most popular are white curtains made of light fabric, they can be used as an independent element of decor or as a component of a composition with roller blinds, Roman curtains or curtains. Neutral options are no less demanded: beige, milky, shade of champagne, light gray, light coffee. Most often, they decorate living rooms, solved in classic or modern styles.

As for bright curtains, they can be a wonderful color accent. Due to the translucent texture of the material, such curtains will not “beat” the color of the eyes and at the same time will add spice and piquancy to the interior. Mediterranean style, hi-tech, boho, ethnic - this is a small list of design types where bright color accents can be applied.

Shades are especially popular: lemon, turquoise, mustard, orange, coral, mint, lavender.

Given the excellent drape properties of light materials, different colors are easy to combine with each other, creating both two-tone compositions and using a larger number of shades. It can be contrasting tones or different shades of the same color. Due to the lightness of the veil, its multi-colored cuts can be scribbled, layered, crossed with each other or just hung on the ledges next to it. Thus, unexpected and very original combinations are obtained.

Dimensions

In order to correctly calculate the size of future curtains, you need to imagine how they will look. Will they go down to the floor or slightly cover the windowsill? If the room has a balcony and, accordingly, a balcony door, you should consider the composition of the curtains on the window and door so that it looks harmonious. In addition, it should be taken into account how the curtains will be attached - to the curtain rod or to the string (then you need to provide for a slight sag of the structure).

If the material just hangs, reaching the floor, then the calculation of the length is this: the height from the floor to the cornice plus 25-30 cm. If you plan to drape the cuts, twisting or twisting, the calculations will have to be done on the spot, measuring everything with a tape measure.

It is better to take a fabric with a small margin so that it elegantly spreads to the floor than looks like a “short tail”.

How to choose the right one?

Making a choice, it is necessary to proceed first of all from the style in which your living room is decorated. Bright scarlet or golden curtains are suitable for the hall in the art deco style. And juicy turquoise or lemon curtains - for the living room in a Mediterranean style. Curtains should, among other things, be in harmony with the window frame. Having decided to decorate the room with printed curtains, you should act carefully. A thin veil can be “overloaded” with a print; on the contrary, a pattern can be illegible on a translucent fabric.

In order not to be disappointed in your choice, you should imagine how your curtains will look in their final form. Your expectations may not coincide with the real state of affairs, in most cases this happens when a person does not represent the difference between the sample and the large canvas of material. To prevent this from happening, you should be guided when buying how the fabric looks on the window, on the ledge. Selecting only on the basis of a tissue sample is undesirable.
