The name of the breed is associated with Spitsbergen - a place near the Baltic coast, however, not all scientists agree with the opinion that this region is the birthplace of the animal. According to information from many dog breeders, the black spitz is an animal whose birthplace is the north of Europe.

Description

Black Spitz is considered a dwarf species, as it has a small stature and weight. According to American standards, the height of the dog at the withers should be 260 mm. According to the FCI standard, the growth of animals is allowed no more than 220 mm. The body weight of such pets is about 3 kg. The case is a square format puffer, the height is comparable to the length as 1 to 1. The body structure is characterized by strength, decorative grace, as well as excellent muscular development.

The head is small in size, on it is a short muzzle, narrowed to the end and resembling a fox. In black spitz, the nose is black, as are the lips, which fit snugly against the jaws. The shape of the eyes is oblong, the organs of vision are slanted. They have a lively and mischievous expression, so the dogs look charming.

The ears of the black spitz are erect, they have a triangular shape and sharp tips. The location of the hearing organs is quite close to each other. Animals are characterized by a strong neck with an average length, on which there is a thick mane-shaped collar. The back of the pussies is strong, it is straight and short. At the end of the body there is a tail that covers a thick coat. It is placed high and keeps on the principle of a fan.

The front legs are straight, with long shoulder blades and muscular shoulders. Forearm straight, stocky, pubescent from behind. The pet's paws are rounded, they are well assembled and have black pads. Dogs with a black-brown color are endowed with brown pads on the legs. The hind legs are characterized by massiveness and straightness, they are covered by fur to the tangent joints.

The spitz of this species has a black coat color. The hair of these animals is luxurious, consisting of several types of hair:

  • integumentary (outer) hair, characterized by a large length;
  • a thick undercoat that resembles cotton wool to the touch.

The head, ears and front legs are covered with short hair, but on the shoulders and neck there is a thick collar. Hind legs resemble fluffy pants.

Spitzs of black color, as a rule, are covered with glossy wool, on which there are no marks of a different shade.

    Immediately after birth, the puppies have black fur with red undercoat. If the ancestors of the pet had a different color, then, most likely, the color of the puppy's fur coat will change from black to some other.

    The black and tan spitz on fur has clear marks. The color of such inclusions can be the most diverse. For example, if a black spitz has brown marks, then such a pet is called black-brown. In a tan spitz, blotches are located on the chest and legs.

    The dog of the breed of black Spitz is quite lively and affable. This animal can take root in any family. The dog gives preference in communication to children - the fluffy happily supports their games, participating in fun. A pet can become not only a nanny, but also a friend to a little man. It is worth remembering that if the dwarf Spitz barks a lot, then this phenomenon has a reason. Negative character traits of a dog include stubbornness, self-will. This breed has a tendency to dominate other representatives, pets like to always be in the spotlight.

    How to choose?

    Before you buy a black spitz puppy, you should determine the purpose of acquiring such a pet. Usually this dog is brought to participate in exhibitions or in order to get a friendly pet. To buy fluffy, you should contact a special nursery with a good reputation or a reliable breeder.

    In order not to be deceived and to buy a thoroughbred puppy, you need to remember that Spitz are expensive, so you should not be waged at a low price. Arriving at the place of transaction, it is worth paying attention to the cleanliness of the room, as well as to the feed that the pets eat, on real spitz breeders do not save. If a puppy is bought to participate in exhibitions and show programs, then the pedigree should be required from the seller, while paying attention to the exterior of the parents.

    If you want to breed this breed of dog in the future, you need to clarify the question of whether the baby belongs to a litter of linear mating. Parents of such a puppy must be from the same tribal line. If a dwarf dog is purchased as a pet, then you should not pay a lot of money. The kids of the pet class are practically no different from the exhibition ones, except for the peculiarities of the bite.

    It is also worth noting that for exhibitions it is better to give preference to the dog of this breed of dogs, as it has a larger body size and better coat. However, at the same time, Spitz boys have the following disadvantages:

    • dominant character traits, that is, the dog will start fights and conflicts with other pets;
    • some difficulties with training;
    • when a female appears who has estrus, a spitz male will be ready for anything to run after her, therefore there is a risk that the baby will be lost;
    • when the puppy becomes older, he begins to “mark” the site, so he must not only be accustomed to the tray, but also requires walking twice a day.

      Girls of the Spitz breed do not create problems in the upbringing and training. They are characterized by a more calm and complaisant disposition. The animal quickly gets used to the toilet, however, its disadvantages are also available:

      • twice a year in females estrus occurs, which can lead to an unwanted pregnancy;
      • the process of carrying puppies and childbirth have a lot of their own nuances, and this will require special care from the owner.

      For the right choice of black spitz puppy, remember these rules:

      • concentrate on one fluff;
      • monitor the behavior of the animal: the baby should not be afraid of a person, be aggressive or break out of his hands;
      • examine the appearance of the dog, while paying attention to the coat, the presence of dandruff in it, the quality of the skin, the state of the organs of hearing and vision, and the oral cavity;
      • pay attention to the gait and movement of the animal.

          The weight of the newborn puppy should be 100 grams, but if the baby weighs less than 70 grams, this may indicate developmental problems. You can take the baby black Spitz from the mother at the age of 3 months. The puppy must have a corresponding mark, this indicator indicates the authenticity of the breed.

          How to name?

          After acquiring a black spitz, many owners wonder what to call this small, furry and temperamental creature.

          According to experienced breeders, the full name of the dog should not consist of more than forty characters, moreover, the name must correspond to the character and behavior of the animal.

          Often owners of black spitz dogs give them nicknames according to the color of their fur, for example, Red or Black. A worthy version of the name for the boy will be a Greek or mythological character: Eric, Bruno.

          Do not choose an offensive name for a pet so that this does not affect its behavior. Black Spitz normally exist in the conditions of apartment and home maintenance, they are not adapted to life in the aviary.

            Food

            Like many other small dogs, black spitz dogs are prone to obesity. For this reason, an adult pet, like a puppy, requires careful attention to the diet. According to most breeders, the best food option for Spitz is high quality dry food. Such food incorporates all the vital vitamins and elements for the normal growth and development of a thoroughbred pet.

            Owners who prefer home-made products when feeding Spitz should remember that a larger percentage of the fluff ration should be meat. In addition to meat products, the following products must be present in the dog’s diet:

            • rice and buckwheat;
            • cottage cheese, kefir;
            • vegetables.

              You can’t give potatoes, sausages, legumes, sweets, pasta, chocolate products to Spitz. Feeding for an animal should be made by a veterinarian. Every day, the dog should consume pure water, proteins, fats, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and dietary supplements.

              Saving on feeding a thoroughbred pet is not worth it, since poor quality of food can cause diseases.

              It is forbidden to give fluffy tubular bones, pork meat, spicy, fatty and salty foods. Milk is a product that Spitz can’t digest, so you can give them cheese as a treat. Black Spitz puppies should eat 5 times a day, while food should be served in small portions. After six months of age, animals are fed three times a day.

              Hygiene

              Long-haired black Spitz need careful care. Dogs require regular combing with combs and bathing with professional shampoos, the use of masks, balm and sprays. If the black pet's hair is not looked after, then brown blotches may appear on it.

              In addition to this, this breed of animals requires regular haircuts - if the owner does not have skills in this matter, then you should contact a professional.

              Fluffy is washed when it is necessary, however, it should be done more often than with other breeds. Under the conditions of dusty and hot weather, the pet can be bathed weekly. Spitz shampoos should not contain parabens or sulfates. Together with shampoo, it is worth purchasing an air conditioner from the same series - such a tool will help to overcome dryness and unravel naughty hair.

              Combing black Spitz is carried out much more often than other hygienic procedures. Ideally, the pet should spend about 20 minutes every day to comb out the hair. Careful combing is required before bathing, as well as during molting.

              Training

              It is necessary to start raising a small Spitz as soon as he appears in the house. This animal is characterized by extraordinary ingenuity, so the pet will quickly understand what is required of it. Black Spitz must obey the owner, following his commands, so you will have to take time to train him. A five-month-old puppy will simply learn standard commands.

              Raising an animal, you need to establish close contact with him and a friendly relationship.

              The dog must be socialized in a timely manner, otherwise the dog will bark continuously at people.

              If the owner has a desire, then the baby can be taught tricks and shepherd's affairs.

              Black Spitz can be called a daring extrovert, a glorious and devoted doggie. This is a very smart pet, which can easily be trained to cater to its owners.
