The playful, furry Spitz has been very popular among breeders for a long time. The four-legged pet is a fearless watchman and faithful friend. An amazing shade of coat gives the animal special appeal. Pomeranian sable spitz - a real "decoration" of the canine world.
Breed characteristics
A charming pet with fluffy fur and a funny tail is a representative of one of the oldest breeds in Europe, which was bred several hundred years ago. Modern dog handlers have not lost interest in the Pomeranian and are happy to bring a four-legged friend to the house. This breed belongs to dwarf decorative dogs. Despite its miniature, the Pomeranian is a very brave dog, which is distinguished by intelligence and quick wit. The features of the breed include some of the items described below.
- A peculiar physique. Visually, the Spitz resembles a fluffy "square".
- Chic fur with thick undercoat. There is a “collar” on the neck, and “panties” on the hind legs.
- A neat, elongated face with smart eyes.
- Sticking ears and fluffy tail "ringlet".
- The height of an adult dog does not exceed 23 cm, and dogs weigh about 2.5 kg. Pomeranian Spitz live 15-18 years, are in good health and quite unpretentious in care.
However, the owner of the furry puppy must be ready to do training from the first days of his appearance in the house. Pomeranian spitzs are quite wayward and without proper education can become uncontrollable.
"Fuzzies" get along well with children and can spend hours playing with their favorite toy.At the same time, representatives of this breed are quite ambitious, do not tolerate rivals and can challenge a large dog.
Dog handlers highlight the intellectual abilities of such a dog. Spitz can easily be trained, instantly respond to his nickname and even able to perform tricks.
Color features
One of the most common shades of Spitz wool is sable. This color combines two colors: at the roots, the fur is light, and the ends of the hairs are dark. The intensity of the shades is uneven.
Sable coloring has some varieties, which will be discussed below.
- Orange or red. This color is monophonic, although in some cases individuals with a muzzle and hind legs of lighter colors are found. Spitz orange-sable color is a regular in various exhibitions. Its “fiery” coat color looks especially impressive against the background of other dog breeds.
- Cream. The color is close to white, but has a pleasant warm or cold tint. For the sable cream color, light eyes and a nose are characteristic. The color of the coat is fully formed by the first year of life, when the dog has an undercoat.
- Gray or wolf. This is the most common Pomeranian spitz. Dog's fur has a gray base, which is cast in silver. The tips of the hairs are painted black. The body color of the dog is several tones lighter than the muzzle and ears. The end of the tail is darker than the base. The lightest areas of the hair are concentrated on the shoulders and mane of the pet, even minimal deviations from the standard of the color are considered marriage.
It is worth noting that the sable color changes as the animal grows older. This feature is associated with the presence of puppy fluff. For this reason, most babies have fur in gray shades. The main color appears only after three months of the dog's life. During maturity, the sable breed gradually loses pigment and acquires a uniform fur color: orange, cream or gray.
In addition to sable, Pomeranian can also have a different color.
- White. At present, it is very difficult to find a completely snow-white spitz - most often puppies have cream-colored hair. When choosing a white Spitz, it is worth paying attention to his pedigree. If distant relatives have a different shade of fur or dark spots, then, most likely, after a molt, a white puppy will become similar to them.
- The black. This color looks very impressive. Spitz with black fur has a similar undercoat. However, puppies are born with brown shade, but after the first molt it turns black. Spitz dogs of such a color look like small dark “balls” and resemble cubs.
- Blue. Such a coloring is quite rare, so buying a puppy will be expensive. Blue color represents various shades of gray. There is also a marble color, which is very suitable for exhibition activities. Charming spitz with original colors of wool attract the attention of others and are a real gift for picky dog breeders.
- Brown. Fluffy dogs of chocolate color have a striking appearance, thanks to which it is difficult for them to get lost on a walk. There should be no extraneous inclusions on the brown coat. Also, the nose and lips of the dog have a chocolate color.
- Pomeranian Spitz brindle and spotted color. The first is characterized by the presence of dark stripes on the back of the animal, and in the second case, the pet's fur is decorated with spots of saturated colors (black, red or gray).
Naturally, the price of a puppy with a cream shade of wool will differ from the common gray dogs - the original colors of the Pomeranian are highly appreciated. In addition, when buying a puppy, gender and the dog’s pedigree play an important role.
A female is more expensive, as it will bring offspring, and the owner himself can start selling this breed. This feature is characteristic of decorative miniature dogs.
The pedigree provides information about the titled ancestors of the dog and provides important information about the absence of serious genetic diseases. If the puppy is defective, then its cost is significantly reduced.
Care and maintenance
Fluffy Pomeranian sable spitz dogs are excellent for living in apartment buildings. Miniature animals are unpretentious, but at the same time they are in danger without proper care. For example, pet hair requires special attention. It must be combed regularly, otherwise the “teddy bear” will lose all its charm, and the fallen fur will become a home for parasites.
The procedure is carried out 1-2 times a week, and during molting, combing is a daily activity.
When tassels appear, it is necessary to carefully cut off an unnecessary ball of wool. Hair cutting is carried out by a specialist - at home it is quite difficult to do.
The owner should pay particular attention to the hygiene of the teeth and ears of the Pomeranian spitz. You can clean your ears with cotton buds dipped in a special solution. As for caring for the oral cavity of an animal, today special pastes and toothbrushes for dogs are on sale. Also, the spitz must be cleaned with a piece of gauze soaked with hydrogen peroxide (1%).
In order for the hair of the animal sable color not to lose its density and luster, he needs the right diet. The Spitz puppy eats food up to 5 times a day, an adult dog is enough to eat 2 times a day. Dry industrial feed (preferably premium) is suitable for this breed. As for natural products, it’s good for an adult orange to eat:
- fresh meat (with the exception of pork);
- boiled fish (boneless);
- rice and buckwheat porridge;
- low-fat cottage cheese;
- carrots.
Also, the Spitz must be provided with high-quality drink (fresh water at room temperature). A healthy pet is active and has a good appetite. If his behavior becomes suspicious, then the owner needs to urgently show the dog to the veterinarian.
