Fox type Pomeranian is a type of German Spitz. This dwarf animal belongs to the oldest breeds of Europe. His images in the hands of noble ladies can be found on the canvases of world painting. Charming baby has not lost its popularity for several centuries.
Types of Pomeranian Spitz
German Spitz have 5 varieties, one of which is the dwarf Pomeranian. Pomeranians are the smallest decorative breed of Spitz. It is divided into 3 groups: toy, fox and bear. It is difficult to attribute a newborn baby to one or another variety of oranges: all distinctive features appear by the age of one. Even with both parents of a fox type, the baby may end up with genes from another group.
Origin history
In the Ladoga region near Pomerania - the birthplace of furry dogs - they find the remains of Stone Age dogs, which are attributed to kinship with Pomeranian spitz. It is believed that their ancestors were northern breeds of dogs from which they inherited a long warm coat. At the turn of the 17th-18th centuries, 2 varieties of Spitz were formed in Germany: black, originally from Württemberg, and white - from Pomerania. They were far from pocket descendants.
Dogs had an average body weight and were the favorites of poor people who appreciated and used their high protective qualities.
By the middle of the 18th century, this breed became dogs for the higher nobility. The German princess Charlotte Mecklenburg-Strelitskaya helped them. Going to England to marry King George III, she brought along her beloved Spitz. The pet came to the court, the British were delighted with him.Dog breeders registered Pomeranian as a separate breed and started breeding the population.
The smallest individuals were selected from the litter, as the emphasis was on decorativeness and miniature. Even during the life of Charlotte, it was possible to reduce the weight of Spitz from 15 to 9 kg, the color remained white or the color of coffee with milk. Princess Victoria (Charlotte’s granddaughter) brought a five-kilogram spitz from Florence. Enthusiastic British even more imbued with a tendency to reduce the weight of pets.
In 1871, the Queen of England opened a club of dwarf Spitz. By this time, they had reduced their weight by almost 5 times and began to weigh 2.5–3 kg. Dogs have a more diverse color: red, black, white, cream, peach. The British and Americans began to classify miniature oranges as a separate breed. In Germany, they continued to be considered a subspecies of the German Spitz. The opinion of the Germans was enshrined in a single FCI standard, which is valid to this day.
Two world wars of the twentieth century interrupted the breeding work of breeders. During the Second World War, Germany actually lost its population of dwarf Spitz. This problem did not affect American animals. It was the dogs that returned from overseas that helped revive the population, which at that time in America had achieved even greater results.
To this day, the best representatives of this breed live in America.
Description
Fox type dwarf spitz dogs most of all comply with the breed standard described, but, surprisingly, they are cheaper than a bear or toy type. Buyers are more attracted not by the standard, but by the charming appearance of the dogs. Chanterelles are distinguished from classic Spitz grace and grace, they really look like foxes in miniature. Their weight is from 1.7 to 3 kg, height - from 16 to 22 cm.
Dogs live for about 15 years. But there are cases when, with good care, animals survive to 19–20 years of age. If the fox type is standard, it should look a certain way.
- Despite the elegance, the body shape of the Spitz is muscular and square: the length of the body and the growth at the withers are the same in size. The back is even, ends with a wide croup.
- The head is wedge-shaped with an elongated fox muzzle. Pomeranian puppies do not immediately determine the species, but it is the fox type that begins to appear earlier than others and becomes noticeable by elongation of the muzzle.
- In fox spitz, the lower jaw is narrow, and the upper is larger than the lower. Type of bite - scissor.
- Close to each other triangular protruding ears.
- Dark amygdala elongated eyes.
- Long graceful paws.
- The tail is twisted by a fluffy ring.
- Long coat with thick undercoat. The rest of the hair is straight, does not lie on the body, but sticks out perpendicular to it. Wavy hair is not standard. The fur coat of the chanterelle is decorated with a fluffy collar on the neck and panties on the hind legs.
- 12 colors are allowed for the exhibition. Among the chanterelles, red, sable, beige, and cream are most often found. White spots, tan marks are defects.
Character
Pomeranians have good intelligence, they easily find contact with a person, are trained, and can perform the proposed tricks. The fox type likes to lead; innate fearlessness is added to this property. To other dogs, regardless of size, the Spitz will not yield in anything. During the walk, the owner will have to make sure that his self-confident and cocky pet does not get into a fight with a large mongrel.
In relation to the owner, the chanterelles are obedient. They have a cheerful playful disposition and are very mobile. Since the ancestors of the Spitz were guards, their dwarf descendants have a similar quality.
Kids, despite their size, will always guard the owner and his property.
Differences
Chanterelles have differences from other types.
From the bear
Spitz-bears and foxes are completely different. Among dwarf oranges, cubs are the most popular and are in high demand. Considering their appearance, you can immediately notice the characteristic features.
- Bears have a disproportionately large head and a flat muzzle. The chanterelles have a small, wedge-shaped head with a cunning, elongated nose that corresponds to the proportions of the body.
- The chin of the bear is always raised, so it seems that the baby is looking up. In chanterelles, the chin is generally difficult to find due to a scissor bite.
- The bear’s nose is higher than the fox’s.
- Ears are small, round, as if recessed in wool. They differ markedly from the sharp protruding ears of the fox.
- Bear hair, unlike foxes, is short, like a plush toy.
- The body of the robust ladies is wide, reminiscent of real teddy bears, which strikingly does not correspond to the graceful body of chanterelles.
The bear type is so popular with buyers that breeders often sell dogs that do not comply with the accepted standard, which must be rejected and castrated in order to avoid the continuation of incorrect breeding. Deviations from the standard affect the health and longevity of the pet.
For example, if an adult dog has a muzzle less than normal by only 1 cm (4 instead of 5), the pet may experience breathing problems, and later with the vascular system.
From the toy
Toy Spitz brought the Japanese. It is impossible to distinguish it from a soft toy until the dog begins to move. Until recently, the color of this baby was exclusively white. Today they try to bring dogs with different shades, they already represent the population at exhibitions, but still, the most expensive representatives of this group are white, their cost ranges from 25 to 40 thousand rubles. If you compare the toy with other types of oranges, it will be more like a bear type:
- the muzzle is like a bear cub, only more flattened, the exact opposite of an elongated fox;
- the eyes are farther apart than other types;
- strong, but do not seem so awkward as cubs, and not so graceful as foxes;
- unnaturally dense, pleasant to the touch coat gives the toy appearance;
- A distinctive feature of the toy type is the incredibly fluffy tail.
The choice
Choosing a puppy, first of all pay attention to his health. Unscrupulous breeders can sell a sick dog, the death of which psychologically injures family members. If the puppy is sick, you can distinguish his condition by the following signs:
- he is non-initiative, sits on the side, does not show interest in anything;
- may whimper for no reason;
- if something bothers him, he can break out of his hands and even bite;
- frightened and hiding behind mom.
The baby should be carefully examined for wounds and swelling. A swollen stomach can indicate the presence of worms or diseases of the digestive system. A healthy puppy looks and behaves differently.
- He is cheerful and active, runs up and sniffs the person who approached him, he will wag his tail constantly.
- Such a puppy has a smooth gait and springy run.
- He has a confident flat back.
- Ponytail ring raised up.
- Fluffy beautiful wool has no odors. In chanterelles it is straight. Mandatory on the neck and panties on the hind legs.
- A healthy dog should have 12 teeth, only a scissor bite.
Puppies are best taken from the mother not earlier than 4 months, when it is already visible what type they are similar to. If you plan to participate in exhibitions, it is optimal to pick up at six months of age.
You can choose a baby earlier, but at the same time agree with the breeder on his withdrawal at a later date.
When buying an animal, they pay attention not only to its health, but also to the floor. The choice of gender depends on the tasks to be solved by a small pet. Girls are taken for breeding, and boys for participation in exhibitions. They are stronger, with rich lush, long hair. They look more representative.But the boys have a less flexible character, they are stubborn, willful and persistent.
It is better to comb out the mini-spitz daily, cutting is done as the hair grows. You can feed with dry, balanced feed with the addition of meat or all-natural food: meat, boiled boneless fish, vegetables and cereals.
Love and good care will help you enjoy communicating with a devoted little protector for many years.
