The custom of covering hair not only in warm, but also in summer, came to us from the depths of centuries. Wearing or removing a hat once had a magical meaning. A woman with a headscarf, hat or hat on her head was considered “covered”, protected by the man.

A man taking off his hat in front of someone paid homage to him and emphasized his dependence.

What is a hat?

A hat, as the dictionary of the Russian language says, derived from French, in turn, borrowed from Latin. It means a hat designed to be worn by both adults and children of both sexes. In most cases, a hat means a warm option, although there are lightweight, summer hats.

Kinds

All types, models and styles of caps are so diverse that it is quite difficult to even list them, however, all of them can be classified according to several criteria.

  • By appointment: household, special purpose (professional, national, religious, sports).

Household hats are hats that we see in people in everyday life, including ceremonial occasions: hats, hats. It is these hats that have the largest number of styles.

Hats for special purposes are hats that are included in a set of professional or sportswear. An example of professional hats is:

  • academic square hats (headdresses of graduates of higher educational institutions);
  • a cap, a balaclava, a cap, a cap, a cap, a beret - hats for different branches of the army;
  • Kamilavka, scoofy, miter, hood, cappello romano, tiara, galero - headdresses of representatives of various faiths;
  • skullcap, kokoshnik, winding, ablavukha, cap, cap, turban, hijab, casa, yarmulka, bryl, fez, sombrero - national hats;
  • a builder's helmet, a maid’s tattoo, a doctor’s cap, a cook’s cap - hats that are fixed and easily recognizable attributes of a specific professional activity;
  • safety helmets, including for riding or for cycling;
  • fencing mask;
  • hat for skiing;
  • visor (visor for playing golf);
  • baseball cap;
  • hat for the pool.
  • By seasonality: winter, summer, demi-season.

Winter types of hats may include hats and hats made of dense materials (felt, fur, thick or multi-layer knitwear). Summer hats are designed mainly to protect from the sun and to create a beautiful image. These varieties include panama, lace berets, light caps, light hats. Demi-season models are the most grateful and diverse in terms of manufacturing methods, and in the sense of materials used for this, and in the sense, in fact, of styles.

  • By age: adults, children, youth.

Of course, gradually the concepts of the relevance of children's models for adults and vice versa are increasingly mixed up. At present, and at the already long-standing adult Paris Hilton, you can see a baby hat with ears and an embroidered cat's face, but one cannot say that the girl looks somehow ridiculous. Similarly, young women in wide-brimmed hats and young gentlemen in top hats look great at photo shoots.

Another thing is that such adult hats are unlikely to be convenient for children in everyday life, especially with the current active lifestyle.

Youth caps are an intermediate option that looks great on people of different generations, if the other components of the image look accordingly. In this regard, older people even have a number of advantages over young people: a woman aged 50+ looks wonderful woman in a hat-stocking and a down jacket on a ski trip, although at other times she also amazes with the elegance of a classic look in a hat with a veil.

As well as a baseball cap on a man during fishing or a cashmere coat and a strict hat on it during the business time of the week.

  • By material: fabric, fur, from yarn, from other materials.

What hats are not made of:

  • Fabric - felt, velvet, velveteen, fleece, jeans, tweed, knitwear, cotton, wool. The styles of such hats: all kinds of hats, beret, panama, bandana, molding caps, caps with ears, helmet, hood, cap, baseball cap.
  • Fur - it is difficult to say what kind of fur hats are not made of (mink, astrakhan, rabbit, sheepskin, dog, wolf, beaver, nutria, fawn, sable, arctic fox, fox, raccoon). This section presents the bomber jacket, earflaps, hat-gogol, Kubanka, hat, boyar.
  • Yarn - knitted hats, perhaps one of the most common varieties that allow you to realize the most diverse and fantastic ideas (traditional wool or half-wool, mohair with silk, boucle and grass, sequin yarn, calm plain or brain melting that explodes the brain). Knitted hats: hat, large knit, knitted bomber hat, lapel hat, hats with pompons of various sizes, turban, beanie, pipe hat, scarf hat, hat hat, hat with patterns (lace, arana, ornament).
  • Other materials: relatively traditional (straws, felt) and completely unpredictable (from feathers to diapers - it is from these materials that hats and caps for visiting horse racing are sometimes created that amaze the imagination).
  • By the method of manufacture: sewn, knitted, felted, woven.

Selection tips

When choosing a hat, you need to be guided by a number of practical and aesthetic considerations:

  • The versatility of the headgear. In that case, if you need a specific hat for a specific image, then you do not have to come to universality. If you buy a hat, which, according to your idea, will have to be combined with the maximum of your things, then it is better to dwell on some rather traditional model of calm tones.
  • Convenience. Naturally, buying a hat that is not too comfortable for a single, for example, solemn occasion, you can sometimes be guided by the immortal expression "beauty requires sacrifice." However, if you intend to spend a lot of time in this headdress, then you should approach its choice with particular care: study the composition of the material the hat is made of (for example, if you are allergic to wool, you should not buy a hat from this material, especially if it is supposed to be low on the forehead); planting a hat on your head is also important (if it is too loose, you risk simply losing it, if it is too tight and starts to squeeze your head too much, you will experience constant discomfort).
  • Style. When buying a very fashionable hat, it’s worth considering whether you can withstand the style in which it is made (note, not the style, but the style) - after all, the aforementioned Paris Hilton in the “cat” hat looks natural precisely because the expression on her face , and the manner of behavior, and in itself its way of life, all this, taken together, do not contradict one another. And such a cap is unlikely to look like a business woman in a classic suit with appropriate manners.
  • Type of face. Perhaps all already know about face types, but this does not stop making mistakes when choosing hats even for stars with personal stylists. In fairness, it should be noted that sometimes these errors help to make the image extraordinary, however, in most cases, it is worth noting such complicated rules.

Ladies with a triangular face shape are better off avoiding voluminous caps, especially large knits with lapels or looming over the forehead. If you have a wonderful oval face shape, then almost any style will suit you, but be wary of tall hats that can lengthen your face. But this is a great option for chubby girls and women.

They should also look at hats and caps with brim.

  • Color type of appearance, growth and length of hair. When purchasing a hat (or material for its manufacture), pay attention to your own color type. It happens that both the shape of the cap and its style are perfect for the girl, but when put on, the effect of “disappearing face” or, as they call it, “you merge” is created. This is especially true of fur hats, selected in the same tone with hair and a fur coat. Brunettes are suitable for snow-white, lilac, red colors. Blondes - the whole pastel gamut, but you can experiment with more saturated colors. The classic black color of the cap can turn out to be quite insidious - such a shade requires an impeccable complexion, all of the imperfections (uneven skin, ugly complexion, bruises or bags under the eyes) it can highlight even brighter.

Equally important is the growth of a woman. If a girl is fragile and not tall, then a voluminous and tall hat is unlikely to suit her, which will make the silhouette disproportionate.

And he will be just as disproportionate if the corpulent lady puts on a tiny hat - in this case she risks looking like the notorious Bok freken. An ordinary full-length mirror will help you avoid these flaws, in which you can appreciate the whole folding image as a whole.

The length and color of the hair will also play into your hands with the right selection of caps.

Caps and caps with lapels fit short hair, a romantic beret or an elegant wide-brimmed hat wonderfully combines with long straight hair.
