It would seem that there is nothing easier than to feed your beloved pet, especially if it is a cat. But it has long been known that not all food from a person’s table is useful for cats. This is especially important if your pet is exotic breed, for example, sphinx.

Breed features

Sphinx is perhaps the most unusual breed of cats, they have absolutely no hair, they are also called "bald cats".

They are suitable for people who are allergic to pet hair. In addition, they are less trouble in the house, they do not fade.

But precisely because of the lack of wool, they need a special diet, in which there must be more calories to maintain body heat. They always have an appetite, they eat almost everything and always. Any food for them should be dosed, but if the animal does not have enough food, then it can freeze and hurt.

Adult food

Both specialized feeds and natural foods are suitable for cats. When choosing the second option, in no case should you feed: raw river fish, bones, canned goods, smoked and salted products, fatty meats.

If you decide to feed the animal with dry food, it must be at least premium. They include all the necessary products: meat, fish, vegetables in the correct proportions.

They contain a ready-made vitamin-mineral complex, this also applies to special canned food for cats.

Choosing such feed is better than European or American production. When choosing a finished feed, check with the seller if it is suitable for your sphinx, because due to the characteristics of its body, it needs feeds with a high content of fat and protein. And do not forget that there should always be a bowl of clean and fresh water nearby.

Nutrition of sterilized cats and cats

After a similar operation in animals, the risk of diseases of the genitourinary system increases. Very often they develop kidney stones in their kidneys, which then painfully come out. To prevent the development of this disease, in the diet of the cat must be calcium and it is necessary to completely exclude any fish.

Each cat food manufacturer has specialized products for neutered animals.

If your cat is on natural feeding, then you need to add kefir, cottage cheese, sour cream and other dairy products to the diet.

In any case, after the operation, the animal’s appetite will increase, so you need to make sure that he does not overeat, and give food in small portions. The amount of water for such cats needs to be increased two or three times. It is also recommended once a week to spend a fasting day for the pet.

Feeding pregnant cats

A pregnant cat, like any mom, needs additional attention, especially with regard to her diet. The number of meals a cat should be increased to four times a day. In such a period, it is better to feed the cat with natural products rather than dry food.

In this case, you must take into account the characteristics of the cat: its age, how active and mobile, how much weight the animal has.

If the average sphynx cat should consume at least 350 kilocalories per day, then the pregnant woman needs to increase this figure to 1200 kilocalories per day. There are several rules for feeding a pregnant cat.

  • At least half the cat’s daily diet should be raw meat, and beef is best.
  • From the menu of a pregnant cat, any fish should be excluded, whether raw or boiled.
  • Give dairy products to the animal after eating the main food.
  • For the intestines of the animal to work properly, add boiled vegetables and cereals with vegetable oil to the menu.
  • Every day, you need to add one small spoonful of bone meal to the main meal.
  • 3 weeks before birth, add nettle leaves to the diet, and then separately - raspberries. The leaves of plants should be poured with boiled water and allowed to cool. Nettle stimulates milk production, while raspberries minimize the risk of miscarriage.
  • The amount of water consumed also needs to be increased and, of course, it must be clean and fresh.

Food for kittens

When your cat has nourished, and you know all the rules for feeding adults, it's time to pay attention to little kittens. Like all babies, they are active, playful and very mobile, but unlike other breeds, they have much more energy consumption to warm themselves.

Kittens begin to be fed at the age of one month.. As the first products, you can use a little semolina porridge or one fourth of the egg yolk.

In two months, the kitten can be added to the diet boiled ground lean meat, most often it is chicken or beef.

Then dairy products are introduced. At three months, you can give small portions of vegetables, herbs, cereals and boiled meat.

If you can’t provide a sufficient ration for a kitten, then you can feed it with finished canned food and gradually introduce dry food. But in this case, the feed should be specially for kittens and not lower than premium.

A kitten under the age of three months is fed six times a day, not more. Six-month-old kittens - three times a day and gradually transfer them to two meals a day.

There are several rules that must be observed when feeding sphinxes, especially kittens.

    • The water in the bowl should be clean and fresh, it is advisable to change it twice a day, pour it into a separate ceramic or glass container. The animal should always have access to water.
    • There should be two bowls for food in order to wash them one by one and to be able to give two different dishes to a kitten at the same time.
    • New foods or feeds need to be introduced in stages over a period of one to two weeks. The amount of food in the bowl needs to be increased gradually as the kitten grows; to comply with the dosage of food, it is better to buy scales. It is important that the animal does not overeat, but food was enough for him.
    • If leftover food remains in the bowl, they must be discarded and the bowl washed once a day. Otherwise, the food may become sour and harmful bacteria may appear in it.

Always remember that you have an unusual cat, and it needs special care. If you have any doubts or questions, consult with experienced breeders, but do not leave the problem without a solution.
