Josef Högel, one of the many children of poor Austrians, went to his first job at the age of 14. He became an apprentice to a cobbler who lived in the neighborhood.

Continuing to learn all the intricacies of the profession of a shoemaker, Högel traveled around the country, worked in a variety of shoe shops, learning from experience, honing his skills and looking for his own style.

In 1935, Högel acquired a small house, in which he arranged his own production. Having hired several workers to help himself, he begins the manual sewing of women's shoes. According to Joseph himself, only the most talented and creative personalities from all over Austria worked with him, who had not yet managed to grab their piece of fame, but were eager for it.

Gradually, production expanded. Shoes were bought and gained popularity in narrow circles of the Austrian province.

During the Second World War, a talented artist was drafted into the army. He could continue his mastery only in 1943, upon his return from the front. It was then that the real breakthrough and personal “economic miracle” of the Hogl brand began.

Diligence, perseverance and craving for self-improvement.A small home workshop began to grow gradually and almost reached the size of a provincial factory, about 150 people worked at the enterprise.

The Austrian brand can be considered a family affair, as the talented son of his father, Richard Högel, had a hand in his success. He brought the brand to the world level, penetrating the markets of Europe, America and even the Soviet Union.
