Wheels are one of the most important parts of a stunt scooter, because they are in direct contact with the road. To correctly choose this important element, read the overview of wheels with a diameter of 100 mm, 110 and 120 mm, equipped with bearings.
Wheel requirements
Sports scooter is designed for aggressive riding style, performing tricks and jumping over obstacles. Therefore, the wheels for the stunt scooter must be strong, light and, most importantly, reliable. At the same time, for a better roll, they must be equipped with bearings.
Key parameters and classification
On stunt scooters people of different ages ride. In addition, tricks vary in complexity. The operating conditions of scooters are also different. All this determines the variety of sizes, materials, designs and characteristics.
Rigidity
This is the main parameter of stunt scooter wheels. Stiffer wheels better withstand loads and impacts and are suitable for heavier riders. The scope of their application is riding on special tracks. Softer ones are better suited for public roads. Stiffness, or the degree of endurance, ranges from 50a (the mildest) to 101a (the toughest). To perform tricks, instances of rigidity 88a-90a are well suited.
Design
Wheels are solid and with spokes. One-piece harder, but also heavier, mostly used by experienced riders. Spokes are softer, have less weight and ride on them more comfortably, but they are less durable. In addition, the different design of the knitting needles provides a beautiful appearance and design differences.Such wheels will be the best choice for beginner riders and not too complicated tricks. Also, all wheels must be with bearings.
External diameter
The standard range of external dimensions is 100 mm, 110 mm, 120 mm and 125 mm. To determine the required size, you can simply measure the pen pen with a ruler and multiply this value by 2, or simply measure the sample. In addition, tire sizes are often indicated on tires.
Wheels should choose the right diameter - too big just will not get up, and too small will not allow to reveal the speed capabilities of the scooter.
A large wheel gives speed, a small one gives maneuverability. For an optimal balance between speed, maneuverability and stability, the front wheel may be larger than the rear.
Wheel width
The wide wheel is more stable and better able to absorb loads. But at the same time, it has great rolling resistance and worse maneuverability. Narrow - allows you to better turn and perform tricks. The standard width of stunt wheels is 24 mm.
Material
The most popular is polyurethane, It is characterized by reliability, the absence of excess noise and a long service life. Wheels PVC (polyvinyl chloride) cheaper, but their characteristics are slightly worse.
Rubber are rare, they amortize well, have excellent grip qualities, but do not tolerate temperature extremes and have a small resource. Plastic - inexpensive and beckon with an abundance of colors, but have weak cushioning and great rolling noise. Silicone - soft and quiet, but have a small resource and are mainly used in children's models.
Hub material
The core of the wheel is made of nylon or aluminum. Nylon is cheaper, but carries loads worse and is suitable only for beginner riders.
Aluminum is much stronger and tougher, it is better suited for frequent use.
Bearing Accuracy Class
Bearings are mounted in scooters Aves 7 or Aves 9. Aves 9 more precisely, it will provide the best roll. Aves 7, in turn, costs a little cheaper. Both of these bearings have proven themselves, only experienced riders will notice the difference between them.
Type of tire
Tires are solid and pneumatic (inflatable). For stunt scooter The tire must be solid.
Tire pattern
The speeds developed by the scooter are usually insignificant, and it rides mainly on smooth and dry surfaces. Therefore, tires can even be smooth. The choice of drawing depends on the aesthetic preferences of the owner.
Other features
Some wheels may be luminous, this makes the scooter more beautiful. Also, the abundance of colors and patterns will make each scooter individual. Spokes wheels have great design refinement.
For frequent and aggressive driving on tracks, jumping over obstacles and difficult tricks, you should choose solid aluminum wheels with a metal core, a small width and a polyurethane solid tire.
Wide pneumatic wheels with a large diameter are better to take for leisurely walks in the park or off-road trips. And now it will not be difficult to find a compromise, because you already know the classification.
Manufacturing companies
Each manufacturer seeks to occupy its niche in the market. This means that it is not profitable for anyone to make a frank marriage. Nevertheless, there are several manufacturers that have proven themselves in the best way:
- Techteam
- Foxpro;
- Hipe.
For more professional riders, such companies are suitable:
- Ethic
- Root Industries;
- Tilt
- Gradient
- Eagle.
However, this does not mean that expensive wheels will last longer. The resource very much depends on the riding style, type of surface, rider skills and other factors.
Service and replacement
During operation, the wheels wear out, they can change shape and begin to spin worse. In the former case, they must be replaced; in the latter, one can limit oneself only to replacing the bearing. In any case, the wheels need to be removed.
There is nothing difficult to disassemble. First you need to remove the pegs (if you know what it is, then there will definitely be no problems with dismantling). Then you need to unscrew the bolt on one side of the frame or fork, remove the axle and simply remove the wheel. It is worth making sure that 2 wide washers that are placed on 2 sides of the wheel are not lost (in some models they may not be).
The next step is to carefully inspect the bearings. First of all, you need to check the play and ease of rolling. If the bearing is loose, it must be changed. A new one is pressed in or hammered into the hub. The hammer must be wooden or need to beat through the board. Blows with an iron hammer will surely ruin the new bearing.
If the wheels are badly worn, they are replaced with new ones. Wheels are not always delivered with bearings, then you have to install the latter yourself, as described above.
The wheel is installed in the reverse order. First, an axis is inserted into one eye, then one of the 2 washers (if any) and the wheel itself. The other washer and axis are inserted into another eye. Next, tighten the screw or nut. It is necessary to tighten it tightly so that nothing falls off during the ride, and put pegs at the end.
Selection tips
Only a competent choice of accessories for stunt scooter will provide good results. The basic principle is reasonable sufficiency, that is, you should buy what you need, but for the least money.
This means that the child should not take expensive professional wheels, because he cannot fully reveal their potential. An experienced rider, on the contrary, should not take cheap products, since their reliability may not be enough to perform professional tricks.
