The Alma River gained wide popularity not only in the Crimea, but also outside the peninsula. Its name in translation means "apple". This is because apple trees grow along the shores of this aquatic artery.

The length of the river is almost 88 km, and the catchment area is 635 km. The artery has a natural slope of almost 14 m / km. In fact, this is a mountain river, since its source is located on the northern side of the Babugan-Yayly mountain in the Alushta district. The starting point is the local Babuganka River and the Sary-Su brooks. The direction of the flow of the water artery connects it with the Bakhchisarai and Simferopol regions, and it flows into the Kalamitsky basin, which is near Sevastopol and Yevpatoriya.

The nature of the current is quite stormy, waterfalls form in places, trout is found in the backwaters. At the very beginning, the river is clean and transparent, one of its origins, Savlukh-Su, is even considered healing. Its name translates as "water of health", and there is a monastery nearby.

This water artery plays an important role in supplying water to the whole Crimea. The water regime of the city is regulated by the Alminsky reservoir. The most massive tributary of the Alma is the Bodrak River, it flows into the vicinity of the village of Pochtovoe. Near the water area, several more small streams flow to the river.

A historical description of the artery is in the narrative of the period 1954-1856. In the Crimean battle, Russian troops were defeated here, and in France a bridge was named after this event. During the Civil War, a hospital was formed in the house, and after the October Revolution, the estate became desolate. There was no past greatness; no one looked after the old park for a long time.

At the source of Savlukh-Su, which is one of the tributaries of Alma, is Cosmo Damian Monastery. The type of source nutrition is underground mountain rivers; silver ions are contained in the water, which positively affect many body systems. Thousands of pilgrims who mainly come from Alushta go to the source. The local administration needs to get a pass to the reserve. You can’t get here by car, but everyone can access, however, on a single day - July 14th. In addition to the source, in the reserve near the monastery, natural beauties are interesting. There are many water cascades in the surrounding area, surrounded by green vegetation.

In Alma you can have a good time fishing. In the waters there are many fish that can be caught throughout the entire water artery, anywhere. Natural features of Alma allow you to use a fishing rod, donkey, spinning. Local laws prohibit only poaching methods. Ways are suppressed and severely punished.

You can not fish in the reserve, through which the river partially flows. In addition to trout, in the waters you can catch gadfly, chub, carp, gudgeon and barbel. Some individuals are incredible in size. In season, a large influx of holidaymakers is observed in the vicinity of the river.

When is the best time to go?

Catching trout on Alma is exciting for both beginner and avid fisherman. Active biting of this species is observed in the summer. You can get to the mouth of the river from Sevastopol, there is still a road from Sak. The nearest settlements to the river: Vilino, Peschanoe. To these places you can travel on regular routes. Sandy is a popular beach resort, has good transport accessibility. At the source of the river there are such settlements as Pink, Abundant. Getting to them is more convenient from Alushta. In time, the path will be less than from Sevastopol.

There is now a whole trout farm on the Alme River, and if fishing is not the purpose of the trip, fresh fish can be purchased directly from the reservoir. The farm is located downstream of the river, in the left tributary of Alma, the Chernaya river.
