The built-in wardrobe is the usual furniture in many halls. In order for the interior item not only to fulfill the main function - to contain all the necessary things, but also to please the eye, it is necessary to approach its choice with special seriousness. Let’s take a closer look at what happens, how to choose and place a built-in wardrobe in the hallway, as well as design ideas for built-in wardrobes in the hallway, including corner options.

Features

Built-in wardrobes in the hallway, as a rule, occupy three main areas. This element is placed either where the pantry used to be, or in an existing niche, or along a wall of sufficient length, occupying the entire space from floor to ceiling. The design of the built-in cabinet is very simple, because in most cases the owners even refuse side and rear walls. In this case, only the facade is acquired, and the internal storage areas are organized according to the needs of the inhabitants. The coupe system consists of two profiles located above and below and acting as guides. It is thanks to them that the doors of the furniture element move. Since all doors drive in the same plane, such a system significantly saves free space.

Important! Of course, there are models of cabinets with existing side walls, especially if a full-fledged hallway is organized. In this case, the wardrobe can be connected to a chest of drawers, a small bench and open hangers on which bags or scarves are placed.

Built-in furniture is good in that it allows you to maximize the use of every free square centimeter. Moreover, the back wall does not become a refuge for insects and is not covered with dust. The absence of any inconvenient gaps allows you to keep your wardrobe in order. In addition, if the walls begin to damp, it will be enough just to slide the cabinet doors and dry them. Storage systems can be more complicated and heavier, since their fasteners do not depend on a thin fiberboard panel, but on a real wall. They are very convenient to choose and organize independently, regardless of the manufacturer.

If necessary, mezzanines, roof rails, drawers, special shelves, crossbars and other components are placed inside the built-in wardrobe. We must not forget that there are a huge number of variations in the appearance of the built-in wardrobe, which means that it will turn out to fit perfectly into the existing interior. At the request of customers, the doors are decorated with stained-glass windows, photo printing, mirrors or sandblasting images. Mirrors, by the way, are also responsible for the function of visual expansion of space.

In general, one can distinguish a number of advantages of built-in wardrobes, in comparison with conventional models. They cost quite a bit, because in fact you have to pay for the doors and storage system. Craftsmen are generally able to independently assemble all the shelves and roof rails, so the final price becomes even lower. The cabinet is ideally located against the wall, even if it has certain defects, for example, protrusions or a certain curvature. Sliding sashes do not require space for opening, which saves free space in the most often small hallway. Such a wardrobe is created using a variety of materials, in different forms and designs.

In addition, it can be used to store any kind of thing, including a bicycle and a vacuum cleaner.

Species overview

The number of variations of built-in wardrobes in the hallway is quite extensive. Models can differ not only in the essence of the design, but also in size, design, material used or storage systems. They are all united by the presence of a system of moving compartment doors. Corner wardrobe in its shape resembles a triangle, pentagon or even a trapezoid. This type of furniture allows you to maximize the use of space, as the element occupies an angle that is often not used. A corner cabinet can be used to store not only clothes, but also books, household items, shoes and other household items.

Linear design is considered the most common. In fact, this is a regular rectangle, occupying the space near the free wall. In order for the wardrobe to contain all the personal belongings of the owners, you need to carefully consider the choice of its contents. Depending on the number of doors, a compartment can be bivalve or tricuspid. As you might guess, the two-door wardrobe is equipped with a pair of doors that “hide” one after another, thereby opening access to the contents of the wardrobe. The tricuspid design has three doors, each of which has the ability to move sideways.

The built-in wardrobe may be of various modifications. Some of them still have a full roof and two side walls, while others combine only the storage system itself and moving doors. Sometimes a cabinet has only one wall, if the wall is longer than the dimensions of the structure itself. In free space, open shelves are mounted or a bench is installed for changing shoes. The cabinet may have an additional mezzanine level.

Facades are made for him, and he can also move from the cabinet to the space located above the front door.

The middle part of the wardrobe can be a niche in which frequently used objects are located that do not require hiding behind the doors. As an option, this is a bench, hanger or chest of drawers with a mirror. Wardrobe radius cabinet is organized so that the storage system went along two walls. It is worth mentioning, by the way, that any cabinet can be either purely mirror-like, or combined or even devoid of mirrors.

Materials

From what material is selected for the manufacture of the facade, it depends on what performance characteristics the sliding wardrobe will have. Currently, there are quite a few solutions, which allows you to make a choice according to the capabilities of the buyer. For elite interiors for a built-in structure, a natural tree of any valuable species is used. Such models have impressive reliability, long life and amazing noble appearance. Moreover, natural material is absolutely environmentally friendly and does not harm the health of the inhabitants of the apartment. Luxurious design and durability are accompanied by a rather high price, scaring away many buyers.

Quite often, for the built-in wardrobe in the hallway, facades from chipboard are used with a thickness of 10 or 16 millimeters. Although this material looks pretty familiar, it’s not safe to call it. Chipboard produces formaldehyde, causing real harm to human health. If you still want to choose this material, then you should only buy Super E class.

No less common is the use of MDF as the main material for facades, which is combined with plywood. In this case, plywood is used to make a cabinet frame, and MDF - for direct facades. Such furniture is moderately durable, has a good life and looks quite attractive. A large number of color variations and textures of the material allows you to get an attractive cabinet design at a very reasonable cost.

If we talk about chipboard, then its main advantage is its low cost. In addition, the material is quite stable - it will not be affected by temperature jumps or a change in humidity in the hallway. Do not worry that at some point the cabinet will begin to shrink or, conversely, swell. Nevertheless, this successful property is preserved only while there is a laminate coating on top of the chipboard. Particleboard is not afraid of mechanical influences, for example, shock. The main drawback of chipboard is its dependence on the laminated layer - its absence leads to the destruction of the frame itself.

The panels are not afraid of moisture, but absorb moisture, therefore they are prone to deformation. The internal elements in such structures are made of fiberboard, which does not have strength at all. Finally, as already mentioned, the used resins can harm the human body. MDF is considered to be of better quality and has a lower price. However, it also contains harmful substances, which, in the absence of a sealed coating, harm the body. Wood wins in all respects, but it is prone to deformation during temperature jumps and changes in humidity.

As for the moving system of the built-in furniture, it can be made of aluminum or steel. Aluminum is financially more affordable and has a very acceptable life. Steel, despite its great durability, costs more. Of the two options, aluminum is considered more aesthetic, which, by the way, creates a minimum amount of noise.

For the decoration of facades, a large number of variations are used. You can decorate the cabinet with rattan inserts, bamboo, sandblasting, mirrors, stained glass and other beautiful details. A cheap but effective laminated film that can mimic any desired natural material. In addition, photographic printing is quite popular.Often in one model several options are combined.

Dimensions

In general, the size of the built-in closet for the hallway is determined only depending on the area of the room and the needs of the owners. Thus, it can be both large and wide, as well as narrow and moderately compact. Usually, Doors are usually made with a width of 40 to 80 centimeters, and 60 centimeters is the best indicator. The width of the storage system itself is determined by the flaps used. Their minimum number is two pieces, and when their number is more than five, it is customary to alternate with niches. The height of the cabinet can reach the ceiling, but, in fact, there are no restrictions. The cabinet can be of any height and width.

The depth of the structure is usually fixed at 60 centimeters. A higher indicator makes operation inconvenient, as things will be poorly visible, and to get them, you will have to make some efforts. For small space cabinet depth is 40 centimeters. In this case, it makes the brackets conveniently transverse and often retractable. Less depth will cause things to drop out of the compartment.

Filling

For any built-in cabinet, regardless of the number of wings and the dimensions of the structure, it is important to organize the storage system correctly, allowing rational use of the internal space. The number and variations of various storage systems is determined depending on the requirements, habits and needs of the people who will use it. Since the cabinet is located in the hallway, it is clear that a large part of it will be occupied by a variety of outerwear and shoes. For shoes, it is better to choose a special shoe rack. But if the sizes do not allow, then it is better to limit yourself to a wide shelf located at the bottom of the cabinet. Its width should be at least 26 centimeters, since the standard size of the male leg ranges from 26 to 28 centimeters.

It is customary to stir outerwear on a horizontal bar equipped with hangers. Since street clothes are quite heavy, the design must be made of metal, as well as securely fixed to the walls. The gap between the crossbar and the lower shelf should be at least 100 centimeters, since this number is considered the length of a regular coat. Caps, scarves, mittens and gloves are usually placed on a narrow shelf, and small accessories should be put in a drawer. Umbrellas are conveniently placed on hooks mounted either on the inner surface of the wardrobe, or on the wall outside.

Many people find it convenient when there is an additional storage option for constantly worn clothes, for example, a hanger on one leg. If space allows, then for the demanded things it will be enough just to fix several hooks outside on the side wall of the cabinet. Such parts can be arranged in two rows, allowing children and adults to share their jackets. Often, from the same side at a height of 150 centimeters from the floor level, a small shelf for hats is mounted.

When distributing the space from the inside, do not forget about the place to store the bags. This can be a shelf of sufficient width at the top of the cabinet or a small wall hanger mounted inside the compartment.

When the multifunctional closet will be used not only for clothing, much more storage systems will be required. For example, bedding sets and warm blankets are ideally placed on the upper shelves. To understand the optimal width, it is necessary to roll up the blanket as it is usually stored, and then measure the width. If possible, even several shelves of various heights should be allocated for this purpose, in order to facilitate use and not create uncomfortable piles. It is also recommended that brackets for outerwear be arranged in two levels, so that one has long elements and the other has short ones.

Store light clothes neatly on hangers. In this case, not so many shelves will be required - only for sweaters and T-shirts. Drawers should be made closed so that none of them disappear. Organizers for socks, underwear and accessories should also be located inside. It is reasonable to equip shoe shelves, no matter what shoes they are designed for, with special grids with holders. So, inside will fit a much larger number of shoes and boots, and they will look much more neat. For cane umbrellas that are not fixed on hooks, a special basket is suitable.

If a vacuum cleaner settles inside the cabinet, then its hose and nozzles will have to be fixed on the wall in a special holder. It is recommended to equip existing narrow niches with retractable systems. Do not forget about such an unusual component as a pantograph. With its help, it will be possible to place outer clothing almost under the ceiling and without any problems lower it down.

Decoration options

The design of the built-in wardrobe can both pay tribute to the classics, and adhere to fashion trends. Of course, all possible beautiful and stylish ideas are determined depending on the chosen interior. The easiest way to decorate a cabinet is with a mirror, which will not only transform a boring piece of furniture, but also give it functionality. The mirror can be used either in full growth, or in the form of inserts, relevant, for example, for the modern style. Any photo immediately transforms the available space. Choosing a picture, it would be nice to consider which atmosphere is pursued in the hallway, as well as which color scheme should be used. For example, pastel shades will add light and space to the room.

For most classic interiors, matte sashes with a small rectangular insert in the shape of a rectangle are suitable. In order to add a twist, it is recommended to provide additional lighting. Inserts of contrasting shades and unusual shapes always look advantageous, for example, if brown rectangles alternate with white stripes of smaller width or ordinary panels are combined with leather inserts. Both conventional and mirrored sashes can be coated with a pattern applied using self-adhesive film or spraying. The sketch is better to choose unobtrusive and elegant, for example, with a botanical theme. In addition, an ordinary cabinet can be made much more interesting if there is one free wall available, and it is equipped with shelves with backlight. Placed on them, decorative elements and living plants "set" the mood of the entire hallway.

How to choose?

When choosing a wardrobe in the hallway or corridor, you should pay attention to the cost of existing structures. Freedom in finance allows you to consider models made of natural materials, with an unusual decor or the original form. Smaller capabilities still require the use of standard designs and the use of chipboard, which, however, made by technology, can look no less impressive. The appearance of the structure is selected in such a way as to match the interior design of the hallway. The cabinet should be in harmony both in color, and in size, and in general style.

Of course, the more original the cabinet looks, the brighter the image of the entire hallway, but an excess of decor in the interior can play a bad joke with space. It is important that the entire interior is complete and does not fall apart into a closet and the rest of the space. As for functionality, storage systems are selected depending on the lifestyle of the family. If the inhabitants of the apartment have any specific items, then standard shelves and bars can not do. As for the size, the cabinet should be spacious enough, but not bulky. If you need to place a large number of things, it is better to use the space near the ceiling, and not expand the cabinet itself.

This furniture can be supplemented with any devices. For example, in a small and dark hallway, additional lighting will definitely be required, therefore, a panel with point light sources should be placed on the upper wall. The presence of mirror flaps allows you to abandon a separate mirror and observe your reflection in full growth. The shape is determined by the configuration of the room itself, for example, the same corner kit cannot be installed in a long and elongated hallway.

When designing a drawing of a custom-made cabinet, you should remember the following common errors that occur in a similar situation:

  • the sliding section occupies a certain space inside the structure, to a depth of up to 10 centimeters, so the shelves should be reduced by this gap;
  • the length of the shelves should not exceed 50 centimeters, since they bend rather quickly; for the same reason, one should not forget about the vertical supports, called partitions;
  • special stoppers must be present in the cabinet to ensure the correct functioning of the mechanism.

The built-in wardrobe can be purchased ready-made from the manufacturer or ordered by your own created project. The second option is recommended for small hallways or for rooms with a non-standard layout. However, all this will be more expensive. When making to order, the master will also take into account preferences regarding the materials used, textures and colors. As a rule, manufacturers of the assembly are engaged in this case.

How to post?

To correctly place the built-in closet in the hallway, you must first consider the planned number of stored things, as well as their specifics. However, there are a number of typical places, the use of which is always successful. In a small hallway or even in its absence, it is very difficult to find a place for the closet. In this case we are talking about "Khrushchev" with corridors of a strange shape, as well as one-room studios. In this case, it is recommended first of all to evaluate the wall adjacent to the adjacent room, as a rule, the living room. If its length corresponds to the length of the planned cabinet, then designers advise placing the compartment here.

To increase the space used, it makes sense to think about choosing the design of an unusual handicap, with an increased shelf area.

Looks good and the cabinet, which is located as if around the front door. A standard sliding wardrobe is located near the free wall, and the space above the door is filled with an additionally mounted structure. Quite often, the cabinet occupies the space that is formed by the junction of the wall and the interior door, it will have to be abandoned. The usual angular arrangement in a small space also looks good. In a long and narrow hallway, it’s quite difficult to successfully mount a wardrobe, so many owners “steal” space from neighboring rooms and deepen the compartment there. If there is a blind end, a built-in closet is organized there. Of course, the presence of a pantry or an unnecessary niche largely solves the problem.
