With a light movement of the hand ... Well, not in one movement, but in a very uncomplicated way, your beloved but already fed up trousers turn into even more beloved and, you can say, new shorts. Jeans are best suited for this, just neat (this does not mean uninteresting) shorts will come out of ordinary trousers.
Materials
To get a new thing and feel like a fashion designer, you will need:
- Pants.
- Safety pins.
- Ruler.
- Crayon (pen, felt-tip pen, bar of soap).
- Scissors.
- Iron.
- Sewing machine or just a needle.
- Threads.
- If desired, what you will decorate the result.
Alteration Stages
- We put on pants and determine the length. We mark it with something drawing or just pin it with a safety pin.
- We take off the trousers, lay them on a table or other flat surface (you can just lie on the floor), align the trouser-legs along the edge, on each of them draw a line marked with a chalk (pen, felt-tip pen) or a pin on each ruler. Compare the height by placing the legs on top of each other.
- If we want to get shorts without lapels at the exit, then lay down 4-5 cm down from the drawn line and depict the cut line itself. This will be our bend. If you dream of shorts with a lapel (cuff), then add from 5 to 7 cm. If you like really creative, for example, deliberately frayed edges, then 1-1.5 cm will be enough for you.
- The worst thing in this process is cutting along the bottom line. To make the cut line smooth, you need to take into account the structure of the fabric of former trousers or future shorts, as you like. Jeans are dense, but loose, so it is better to cut in one layer. Lighter fabrics can be cut in two layers, but then it is better to chop the trouser leg along the cut line with pins so that the material does not move.
- Repeat again for the second leg.
- We pull out the pins.
- You can try on to make sure that everything is in order. The shorts should be longer than they thought. Either the length of the hem, or the length of the cuff, or the length of the fringe. If you’re scared, don’t try it on anyway;
Edge Processing Options
No processing
If for some reason you just need a rough edge, then congratulations - the shorts are ready. You can decorate them (see options below), you can do without it.
With fringe
If you like torn edges, then you can proceed to the actual "fight." It can be washed in a typewriter, the edges will break out. If it is poorly washed out, wash again. You can dissolve the threads manually with a large needle along the longitudinal row for a couple of centimeters of height. Everything, you can put on a completely new thing. Or decorate it first.
Hem hem
If you want a neatly hemmed hem, then:
- bend the edges of each leg inward by 1 cm;
- walk through the fold with a hot iron;
- bend again to the first line;
- iron again;
- Sew on the sewing machine manually with blind stitches.
- decorate or wear as is.
If you want to get an inaccurately hemmed hem, then:
- bend the raw edge up from the front side;
- iron;
- sew each leg on a sewing machine or manually;
- if desired, you can decorate the new thing.
Lapel
If you feel the strength in yourself, you can swipe at the lapels (cuffs) from the remaining parts of the trousers or even at the lapels from another (contrasting, checkered, floral) fabric.
Keep in mind that you can’t just sew the lapel to the shorts themselves, since the trousers are often conical in shape, because the circumference of the knee is still smaller than the circumference of the thigh.
Therefore, the steps will be as follows:
- if you have trousers of a straight cut or expanding from the knee, then take the remaining piece of trousers, find a place where its circumference coincides with the cut circumference on the shorts, cut off the ring of the desired cuff height, do not forget about the seam allowances and hem (1-1.5 cm);
- if the trousers taper down, use a different fabric for the cuff.
- if you use another fabric (note that the direction of the shared thread should be located, like your former trousers), then just cut a cone-shaped strip equal to the circumference of the cut from one long edge and 1-1.5 cm longer from the other, the planned height cuffs, with 1 cm seam allowances and sew it into a ring, process the edges of the seam on a machine or manually with a seaming seam;
- sweep the fabric ring to the trouser leg by inserting it inside the inside out;
- Sew on the machine or manually, leaving allowances of 1-1.5 cm;
- iron the seams, directing them upward, to the belt;
- Now you need to unscrew the lapel and iron it with an iron, while the seam will be located inside the leg;
- sew the lapel with a hidden seam manually or sew it on a sewing machine.
Decor
If the soul asks, you can decorate a new thing. There are many options:
- scuffs, if the shorts were made of not enough, in your opinion, shabby jeans - use pumice or sandpaper for this;
- holes or cuts - manicure scissors to help you, and to make the holes look really stylish, you need to wipe their edges and tear the threads;
- rhinestones, metal or metal-like spikes - it is easy to stick, but when washing can fall off;
- lace (you can sew on the bottom, you can sew on top, you can sew on the sides, having previously cut triangles into them, you can cut a hole and sew the lace from the inside) - a very feminine and stylish option;
- buttons, chains, buttons - just sew them.
Wear it with pleasure!
