Without complicated drawings and sophisticated calculations, simple casual or elegant dresses for special occasions you can sew for your daughter at least every day. If you did not know about this yet, then simple sewing options have been compiled for you. Experienced craftswomen will also like it.
Simple for girls for 1-3 years
Having just one pattern of a one-piece dress for a girl, you can sew a lot of different models.
The model below is lined and fastens on the shoulders with buttons. You can sew it from any thin or dense fabric.
Pattern
You can find a suitable pattern for a one-piece dress in magazines, or you can do it yourself by taking a T-shirt or a blouse that fits well on a girl as a template.
How does this happen?
- Take a large piece of paper or a roll of wallpaper.
- Lay out the paper, spread out the shirt and circle the neck and armhole. Next, make a flare in the form of a trapezoid and round the bottom. It’s not scary if your chosen item has a high waist or there is a strong flare. Outline the model, and then remove the excess and finish the desired, adjust the depth of the armhole and neck. The main thing is that the shoulder bevels, the width of the chest and the height of the armhole are already there.
- When drawing a pattern, it may turn out asymmetric. This is not scary, since one half is taken for cutting, naturally the best.
- If you circle a blouse with sleeves, then with a needle go through the armhole of the product. The traces will remain on paper and you can beautifully put them together with a pencil. In the same way, you can make a separate sleeve pattern.
Cutting and sewing
- Open the front and back of the lining fabric.
- Circle the cut parts on the main fabric and cut.
- Sew on the side seams in front and back of the lining and main fabric.
- Match the upper parts of the two fabrics and secure with pins.
- Sew and trim the edges.
- Turn and smooth the seams.
Bottom hem
- Wrap the hem of the dress inward, twist the dress and stitch, leaving about 5 cm for re-twisting.
- After turning the dress, in the un sewn hole, fold the edges inward, smooth them and stitch them.
- On the upper sections of the dress also lay a stitch.
On the front shoulders, mark the place for sewing on buttons and buttonhole holes. Then make loops and sew the buttons covered with the main fabric.
Summer dress-sundress without a pattern
To sew such a cute sundress, a pattern is not needed at all and nothing needs to be circled, therefore, a newcomer to sewing will cope with the dress. This model is suitable for girls of any age and physique, since the width and length are done at your discretion.
- To begin with, we need to measure the girl’s breast volume and decide on a long sundress. Multiply the volume by 1.5 or 2, so that beautiful folds form and do not press in the chest area. The length is measured from the armhole, plus 1.5 cm is added to it for the upper edge and 4 cm for the hem.
- Cut out the rectangle, fold it in half, face inward, and sew on the side.
- Fold the top cut and hem. Edges can be sewn with a zigzag stitch.
- Stitch on a dress 5-10 rows of thread-elastic with a zigzag stitch, or by wrapping the elastic on a bobbin.
- Make 2 straps of 90 cm length from contrast fabric and stitch to the front.
- From the fabric as the sundress, make 2 strips-loops 5x25 cm and stitch to the back.
- Pull the straps in loops and tie on a bow.
Baptismal
Still very young, the children are pure and innocent, and very similar to angels, especially during such a solemn ceremony, because white robes maximize this effect.
Baptismal dresses usually have a simple cut, so they are sewn quickly. So let's get started.
Bodice
Make a top pattern using any method convenient for you. There will be a button closure on the back, so add a few centimeters for the strap.
- Cut out the details from satin and lining fabric, then sew the front and back of each fabric.
- Stitch together the top of the satin and lining fabric along the neck, folding them face inward. To prevent the edges from crumbling, treat them with a zigzag stitch.
- Turn out the bodice and iron.
Sleeves
- Make a sleeve pattern and cut them.
- Gather a little on the bottom and top.
- Cut 2 stripes to hem the bottom of the sleeves. Their length is equal to the length of the bottom of the sleeve, and make the width arbitrary, given that it will be folded in half.
- Sew the strips on one side, then tuck and sew on the other side.
- Stitch the sleeves and iron the seams.
- On the back, make eyelets or sew Velcro.
Skirt
The skirt will consist of 3 layers:
- Lower. From the lining fabric, remove a rectangle of the same width as the bottom of the bodice, but shorter by 5-6 cm from the main length.
- Middle. From a satin fabric, cover a rectangle with a width equal to two widths of the lower edge of the bodice. That is, if the bottom of the front and back is 46 cm, then the width of the rectangle will be 92-100 cm. Do the length as you wish.
- Upper. The width of the second rectangle will be 2 times larger, that is, 184-200 cm and the length, make a couple of centimeters shorter.
Sew each of the rectangles along the side seam. Zigzag the top, and then assemble to the desired size.
Fold all layers together and sew, then sew to the top.
Bend the hem of the skirts.
Make flowers out of strips of fabric.
Smart
Girls have no less reasons than adults to put on an elegant dress. Therefore, we offer to sew a romantic model with frills.
Calculations
- The upper frill should cover the seam of the next stitch, so make the lining details 2-4 cm less than the details of the main fabric.
- To make the skirt voluminous and flared, do the lining length 1.5 times longer, and frills - 2.
- If the top volume is 60 cm, then the length of the first tier of the pad should be 90 cm, and the frills should be 120 cm.
- The second tier and subsequent are calculated based on the size of the previous ones. That is, the lining length of the second tier is 135 cm, and the frills are 240 cm. The third is 202 cm for the lining and 360 cm for the frill.
If the fabric is dense, then the bottom lining is not needed
Sewing
The top in the dress is ordinary, therefore, having cut and stitched it, we will make a belt.
You will need a strip of contrasting color 13 cm wide and a length equal to the volume of the top. Stitch the strip in half lengthwise to the bottom of the top.
In frills, work on the lower edges with a narrow hem, and pick up the upper edges to the desired length.
In the lining also pick up the top edges. Then put all the details in pairs, so it will be more convenient to collect the dress.
Having retreated 1.5 cm from the edge of the back, since secret zipper will be sewn in there, pin a frill with pins.
Face the first tier of the lining on the frill and pin with pins, while making sure that its sides coincide with the edges of the back, that is, there should be no indentation. Sew all the layers.
Stitch the zipper, jokes it to the top and lining, while the frill is not sewn.
To make the lining look beautiful, unscrew it and sew it very close to the zipper using the corresponding foot.
Sew on the second tier. Rectangles from both fabrics are closed in circles. Then pin the frill to the lining from the 1st tier, and on top of it lay the second lining and sew together.
Sew the third in the same way.
If you want to hide the raw edges of the lining on the bodice, then turn the dress on the wrong side and tuck the edge. After fixing it with pins, stitch it on the front side.
The dress can be decorated with fabric flowers as the belt.
Gather small strips and form flowers, then sew to the belt.
Graduation
A coral dress with a bow and lace trim is perfect for graduation. A plus is that it can be worn on various events in the future.
The top of the dress is made in a classic style, so make a pattern from the existing patterns or create a new one. If you do not have time to create a pattern, then try to circle the shirt or top of your daughter, just remember to make a fastener on the back.
- After cutting the details, sew the shoulder and side seams on the bodice.
- Sew on the sleeves and sew the lace.
- Pick up the top of the sleeve and stitch them.
- Grind the neck, and then sew a lace strip.
- Make a rectangle for the skirt. Width depends on the desired splendor, as well as height, on the desired length.
- Pick up the skirt and sew with the top. Stitch the zipper and stitch the skirt.
- Hem the hem.
Bow belt
The belt may be sewn or removable. In any case, take measurements of the girl’s waist and open the belt. Sew a button at one end, and make a buttonhole on the other, stitch lace.
For a bow, cut out 3 stripes and also stitch the lace. Having put together two strips, sew the third to them.
And so, for you, we have prepared several options for sewing children's dresses. You just have to play with fabrics, finishes and please your daughters with new things.
