How to tame a Corella in your hands?

Corella (nymph) is a small Australian cockatoo parrot. The bird is small in size - from 30 to 35 cm, including the length of the tail, and the tail itself is 14–15 cm. Today, there are many hybrid species of corrella, with a variety of bright colors of plumage. These parrots have curiosity, friendliness and are easily tamed. In captivity, nymphs breed well and quickly get used to communicating with humans - the bird can not only be taught to hands, but also taught to imitate human speech.

Corella chicks leave their nest after 6 weeks from the moment of birth - by this time their parents have already laid the next egg laying and soon all parental attention will be directed to younger chicks.

Corella quickly gets used to the person and tries to imitate him. It happens that the female refuses to feed the chicks, and then all care for the offspring passes into the hands of man. In this situation, the chicks, growing up, perceive the person feeding them as a caring mother, trust him in everything and boldly make contact.

The grown birds, who do not have contact with people, are wary of any person and they need some time to get used to the owner’s sight, his voice, and smell. It is a bit more difficult to tame an already matured chick than a small crumb - you need regular gentle communication with the bird, which will take a lot of time and effort, but if you want and perseverance, everything will work out, and a friendly trust relationship will be established for many years.

Bringing your pet into the house, you need to be prepared for the fact that for a parrot, a change of scenery will become a serious stress. At first, the bird will flutter very restlessly inside its cage; it may start flapping its wings, making noise, biting, and not allowing it to be sprinkled with feed, changing water. In this adaptation period, it is best not to insist on contact and give time for the nymph to look around, get used to and calm down.

This can take several days or weeks. During this period, it is important for a person to show calm and understanding. - the house should have a calm atmosphere, sharp sounds, bright flashes of light should be avoided, the parrot should not be shown to guests.

A wild parrot, by its nature, is afraid of everything new for itself, although it is curious, it masters the world with caution. To train a bird to myself the owner should do all the movements slowly and smoothly, talking with the nymph in a calm, friendly tone. All this will interest the parrot, and he will begin to observe you. In the process of this observation, over time, the bird will understand that you are not a source of danger for it, and its interest in you will increase.

The timing of these stages in each case is individual. It all depends on the temperament of the bird, its character, habits, mood and even well-being.

In order to establish contact with a parrot, you need to interest him. Two points will help you with this question. The first - the corals are famous for their love to eat. The second - parrots love bright and interesting, from their point of view, toys. If you correctly use this knowledge about what your pet likes and what is interested in, it will not be difficult to win his love.

Corellas feed on plant seeds, fruits, certain types of vegetables, and berries. A treat for them can be: sunflower or pumpkin seeds, slices of sweet berries, banana, orange slice, apple or pear, sweet carrot, a slice of cucumber or tomato.

A parrot may not immediately respond to your offer, but if you do this periodically, the nymph will begin to approach and carefully take a piece of the treat. Such manipulations must be carried out only when the bird is in a good mood and has not yet had time to eat - this happens in the morning, after sleep. By regularly repeating this technique, you will teach the bird to expect food and your hand and enjoy eating food from the palm of your hand. And when Corella gets used to this action, you can offer a palm with a treat outside the cell.

Try playing with these items with your pet in a relaxed and welcoming environment. If you do this regularly, then in the process of the game a good friendship will be established between you and the cockatiel will willingly go into your hands, knowing that it is fun and safe with you.

In that case, if your parrot is afraid of you, behaving aggressively, trying to bite - you need to understand that accustoming to something at the moment is premature. Without established friendly communication, full contact with the bird is impossible. If this is a young chick, then it is much easier to fix the situation than if you took a parrot, which was already raised by someone and something left a negative imprint on his psyche and behavior.

Building trust and establishing lasting contact is a very long and difficult process, especially against the backdrop of aggression from the side of the bird. Inadequate from your point of view, the behavior of the parrot is explained by the fact that he is scared and in this way tries to protect himself from the world around him. To correct the situation, first of all, you will need to create a calm and safe environment for him.

In order not to provoke Corella to aggressive behavior, try not to make some mistakes.

• Never rush things, focus on your pet and its condition, if you see that it is not located to the contact - do not insist, leave the bird alone.
• Do not yell at the parrot - he very well understands the intonations of the human voice and reacts to them accordingly.
