Corella is an amazing cockatoo bird native to Australia. The feathered one has a good disposition, degree, an unusual attachment to people and longevity. Corells do not tolerate fuss, they are playful, quick-witted. Therefore, the cage for the cockatoo should be appropriate. Before purchasing a product, you need to consider where it will stand, whether an additional light source is needed, whether the interior surrounding it will be safe, and much more.
Design features
To avoid any injuries, you need the largest possible cage. If the space is limited, the pet will become indifferent, he will have apathy. When a feathered depression begins, problems with the body are possible, and the bird may die. Therefore, you need to select a cell, knowing all the recommendations of a specialist. Corella has a wingspan of about 31 cm, so the width of the cage should be about 62 cm. A parrot loves to hang upside down on a cage, which means the height of the cage should be 61 cm.
But there must also be normal length of home so that the corella can move freely inside the cell, without touching the walls.
If the feathered bird will exist in crowded conditions, it will receive damage, obesity and mental disorder.
The form
Currently, there are various forms of cells: diamond-shaped, oval, square. You need to provide your pet with comfort. A cell with a cylindrical shape will look beautiful. But such a cage has a minus - it has no angles, and because of this, the parrot can feel uncomfortable. If the parrot moves around the round cage, then it will slide down everywhere. The best, successful and comfortable option is a rectangular cell. This option has an oblong shape, there are corners, and the top cover is flat.
Comfortable conditions for the Corell - an abundance of corners, an oblong shape, a flat top of the roof, which will serve as an additional platform for games.
Dimensions
There are no exact size parameters. But there are small cells that are designed for one parrot: length not less than 82 centimeters, width about 42 centimeters, height about 62 centimeters. Corell needs to be kept not only in a cage, but also allowed the pet to walk around the room so that the freedom-loving bird rejoices in free floating. An important element of the cell is the width of the rods. The distance between the rods should be about 2 or 3 centimeters.
If the distance is large, and the parrot decides to get out, his head will be stuck. If the rods will have a distance of less than two centimeters, the parrot will feel uncomfortable.
An important element is the wicker cage walls. If the weaving is vertical, then the parrot will always glide.
An excellent option is the horizontal position of the rods. But lattice walls are considered the most useful option.
Materials
Corella has a powerful beak. And the bird is incredibly curious, therefore, loves to gnaw, everything that it comes across. For this reason, when choosing a cage for a parrot, you must first study the material from which it is made. The material must be safe and environmentally friendly for the pet. The cage must be strong so that the parrot does not come out of it. Painted products or cells made of zinc and copper are strictly forbidden to buy. Small crumbs of zinc, dyeing, sour copper can cause poisoning in Corella.
You can not use wood as a cage, as its details will be difficult to wash and clean. A tree may swell from the water and lose its original appearance. And in the cracks that appear, dangerous pests will start. The best material is stainless steel. Its surface should be uniform, smooth without roughness. The cage itself should not have too sharp corners, internal metal fortifications.
Homemade Options
An excellent cage for a corolla will cost a lot. But if you have patience and any skills, it is possible to make the cage for a parrot.
To make a cell with your own hands, you will need some elements:
- jigsaw, electric saw or cutting machine;
- drill;
- drill;
- screwdriver;
- screws;
- roulette;
- a sheet of paper for making the circuit;
- pen or pencil;
- pliers;
- nails
- stainless steel piano furniture hinges;
- a hammer;
- glue;
- nippers;
- construction stapler;
- sandpaper.
At the pet store you can only purchase a plastic pallet.
Consider the manufacturing process.
- It is necessary to start with the drawings of the cell. On paper, it is necessary to determine the sizes of the elements of the cell - a pallet, walls, roof. If there is already a pallet, then you do not need to do it. Using a jigsaw and an electric saw, you need to cut out a rectangle from plywood, three edge elements of the pallet (1 elongated and 2 shortened, having a width of 11 cm.). You need to cut three planks to set the grid; strips should be the same length as the sides; height should be about 3 cm.
- The side bar has the smallest width compared to the other three. The small width allows you to easily and quickly clean the cage. Using glue, you need to fasten the base of the pallet with three sides. On each inner side of the board you need to glue a bar to install the grid.
- Now you need to cut the racks that are on the sides. To do this, you need 8 boards with a width of about 7 centimeters. Next, you need to glue the racks in pairs. Using nippers, it is necessary to cut 4 walls from the net. Using a pencil, mark the hole marks on the walls. Use a drill to drill holes.
- On both sides, insert wire rods into the holes.The side walls must be glued to the base of the pallet. Using a hammer and nails, you need to nail 2 horizontal slats to the top of the long walls. The ends of the mesh should remain outside.
- Now you need to nail the 4th side of the pallet so that its tip coincides with the other three sides. The lower part should be 4 cm above the bottom (using this gap, debris can be removed from the cage).
- Using horizontal slats, side walls must be secured from the outside of the pallet. You need to insert the 2 remaining parts of the grid (short walls of the parrot’s dwelling). Using nails, the side strips need to fix the grid from the inside of the cage.
- Now you need to draw up the ceiling. It is necessary to bend the protruding edges of the mesh walls to the sides. Using a construction stapler, they need to be fixed on horizontal strips. The wall needs to be nailed to the side strips of the ceiling.
- Now you can make the upper door. Using nippers, you need to cut a piece of mesh and attach its ends to two wooden planks with a stapler. A furniture loop must be attached to one plank. Using a screwdriver, you need to fix the second half of the hinge to the prepared opening on the ceiling of the cage to install the door.
- The second part of the ceiling must be covered with a net. Using the door on the roof of the cage, a person can change the stems or other things that are inside.
- For a parrot you need to install a door on the wall. The door can be made of mesh. On the wall of the cage, you need to cut a hole and insert the doors there for the parrot. This door is easier to fix if you make hinges from the rods of the grid and bend them.
- You can make a pallet. It is possible to take a fiberboard sheet and fix the transverse bar on one side of it. This bar will be able to close the bottom gap, and Corella will not be able to get out.
If everything is done well, then the cell will be reliable. The feathered will feel the care of the owner.
How to equip?
If the owner of the cockatiel cannot sit next to his pet all the time, then you need to think about arranging the parrot's cage. Necessary items are a drinking bowl and a feeding trough. So that the water could not dry and become contaminated with garbage, you need to purchase an automatic drinker made of plastic or organic glass. Such containers help the fluid maintain its freshness. If you use open drinking bowls, you need to change the fluid daily.
The liquid should be at room temperature, if the water is cold, then the parrot will have an indigestion, and a warm liquid will not be able to quench your thirst. You can not use liquid from the tap, it is better to use purified water. Feeding troughs are best acquired wide, deep and smooth. The feeder should be made of materials such as plastic, plastic, porcelain or ceramic. No need to purchase clay and wooden utensils, because they will not be cleaned.
You need to buy a bath so that the parrot can swim. But you do not always need to keep the bath in a cage. For the most part, birds like to swim when it is hot. As soon as Corella finished the water procedures, it is necessary to remove the bath so that the parrot does not drink from it. In the cell must be present perches and perches. They should be placed at different heights. Poles should be made of soft wood. It is possible to equip the cage with ropes from soft ropes. The hearts must have different thicknesses so that there is excellent gymnastics for the legs of the Corella.
The perches should be well-fortified so that the Corella does not injure its wings and tail when swinging. Pipes are consumables; Corella can nibble them, and this is useful for the digestion of the bird. Sometimes the parrots will not have enough calcium, so chalk must always be present inside the cage, which must be purchased at a special store.
You can place different toys inside the cage, for example, a small mirror or a bell. But you don’t need to get involved too much, because the Corella needs room.
Where to install?
A house or apartment is not a natural habitat for Corell. And because of these conditions, different dangers can lie in wait for the bird. For this reason, it is necessary to select not only a good cell, but also correctly determine the area where its location will be.
You can’t install the cage in the far rooms, that is, where people rarely go. In the kitchen, dishes are always prepared, and there is a lot of steam - this place is dangerous for Corella. The noisy rooms where electrical appliances are located are a bad place, as the Corella can get scared. You can not install a cell where there is an effect of an electromagnet and radio waves (computers, routers and more).
Places where there are radiators are also dangerous for the Corella. The warm air will irritate the feathers of the parrot. Birds will be able to tolerate cold air, but if there are drafts, then the corella will hurt and may die. You can not put a cage on the windowsills of the windows, because in these places it is very cold in winter and very hot in summer. And if you open the window, there will be a draft, or extraneous noise can scare the Corella. According to psychological characteristics, the corella should be on the same level with the face of a standing person. If the corella is lower than a person, then the bird may feel depressed, and if it is higher, a feeling of dominance will appear.
Corella is a sociable bird, and she must observe the events taking place. The parrot cage does not need to be placed in the middle of the room. If both parts of the house are well pressed to the wall, then the parrot will feel safe, because it needs a protected corner.
Lighting should be balanced for the bird; It should not be too bright.
How to care for the cage?
Before you populate a curella in a cage, it is necessary to thoroughly disinfect the future bird's dwelling. You can lightly scald the equipment with boiling water. You need to clean the cage twice in 14 days. Bowls and drinkers are always stained with droppings or leftovers. Because of this, mold and fungus may appear. They can provoke poultry health complications: infectious diseases may appear, or the parrot may be poisoned. Therefore, you should always ensure that all objects inside the cell are clean. Around the home of the parrot should also be clean. It is impossible for the parrot to smell foreign smells, this may cause skin irritation.
To easily clean all items, you need to purchase a design that has one or two retractable plastic pallets. Do not forget to cover these pallets with blank paper. Thus, the Corella parrot is a smart, cheerful bird, so it needs good care.
And the cage is of great importance to the bird. The parrot’s dwelling must meet the needs of the feathered one.
