Pekingese are considered very mysterious and interesting creatures, they are very popular among lovers of decorative dogs. Most often these are pretty redheads. In fact, the color of the Pekingese is quite diverse. Over the long history of the breed, it has changed significantly several times. In fact, today the exterior allows almost any shade of wool, which is extremely rare in dog breeding. One of the most spectacular and rare representatives of the breed is the Pekingese of white color.
Colors
Pekingese dogs are most often red. This color is considered the most popular, it can vary in shades, but in any case it looks beautiful. The red color includes tones:
- light red;
- red;
- gold;
- actually red.
These nuances are not registered in any way in the pedigree, where the main color is indicated without specifying the shade.
Another common color for dogs of this breed is pale yellow. Here variations are possible from the lightest to the shades of dark walnut. Very often this color has a black mask.
White Pekingese is a less common variety, they include the color of milk, cream. At the same time, white dogs do not always have a black or dark mask, nose, eye rim, and jaws. Different tones are possible here.
Not too fluffy, but very beautiful Pekingese in white and black - even more rare. Since they have less hair, they are rarely propagated in nurseries, preferring more fluffy representatives. Current trends are such that the palm is gradually won by dogs with white in color - white-black and white-red.
International standards
In the community of dog breeders of any level, there are certain standards of the exterior, in which color occupies a special place.
There are some discrepancies in the names of the shades when forming the dog’s documents. For example, the standard rules of the organization of the USA include, in addition to the basic colors, shades such as sable, motley, and red. Dogs of two shades, as a rule, can have spots of any size, but they should be interrupted in a pattern. The standard of domestic dog handlers suggests the following color names:
- black, black and yellow;
- gray, gray-red;
- brown;
- pale yellow;
- spotted;
- white.
As for spotted dogs, spotting is characterized by the dominant shade of the main type - white-red, black-red, for example. If the main color is one, but there is spotting in the region of the limbs, head, and chest, then it is determined by the second color.
Regardless of nationality, some types of Pekingese are rejected: albino Pekingese and liver color. Hepatic dogs have pinkish-colored lobes, a light eye tone, and the absence of a black edging on the face. As for albinos, there is also no dark pigment in the color of the nose and muzzle. Albinos differ from the white Pekingese in the following characteristics:
- white Pekingese has a dark nose; albino has a light nose;
- the stroke on the muzzle of white dogs is dark, absent from albinos;
- the eyes of the white dog are brown, the albino is blue.
Pekingese is considered the only breed that does not disqualify any shades other than those indicated above. Other breeds also do not have one hundred percent albinos.
Breeding rules
In order to find the white Pekingese in the nursery, you must try. There are not many breeders in the world specializing in this color. In order to raise snow-white champions, you will have to take care of who the dog will happen to. Most often, dog breeders with this goal acquire a pair of boiled-white dogs.
Experts note that white is not dominant, it gradually recesses, yielding to other pigments, so only white dogs are taken for mating.
In the case when white dogs cross with other colors, one puppy in the litter may be white, but this will be an accident. In this case, the puppy is unlikely to have a pure white color, rather it will be warm and cream. Such puppies are most often monochromatic, and the muzzle does not differ from the general color. Such a dog, which happened with snow-white, will produce exclusively white puppies in the offspring, lighter in color. They can be creamy, light cream, white. White Pekingese breeding without pigmentation loss is possible in several generations.
The first alarms are lightening the paws and nose.
In order for the dog to become a real champion, white representatives should have a black stroke around the eyes, a clearly pigmented nose, paws, or rather, their pillows. The eyes of the white dog are as black as possible, the pupil is almost indistinguishable. White Pekingese puppies are born pink-white, there are no black dots on them. Dimming of areas required by the standard occurs after several days from birth. You can not be alarmed until the ten-day age, during this period, pigmentation at any time is fully manifested.
If this does not happen, there may be problems with the color.
Character
Pekingese - the dog of the emperor of China. Accordingly, his character is also “royal”: proud, aristocratic. Regardless of color, the Pekingese is a brave, independent and even slightly arrogant dog. However, with all the apparent self-sufficiency, the Pekingese are very attached to their masters, they love to be in their company, they are bored when they are not at home. They are very jealous, therefore it is better not to start them in families where there are small children or other animals.
Maintenance and care
Keeping white dogs is no different from keeping animals of other colors. But the snow-white handsome man requires more careful leaving than his dark brothers. In addition to combing, walking, washing and other standard procedures, the following steps must be performed.
- Cleansing smudges under the eyes. They are invisible on dark hair, while on snow-white they stand out very strongly. If this happens, every day you need to rinse the face with distilled water or a solution of boric acid. Shampoos are often used for children who do not pinch their eyes.
- Wool cleansing. Grass, dirt, earth, asphalt - all this leaves very noticeable marks after each walk on a white fur. Keeping your pet locked up is a bad idea; the dog needs to walk around regularly. Special cleansers help maintain a good coat condition.
Pekingese care products are available depending on coat color. Experts recommend using those that are designed for snow-white tones. Care should be taken to use products with the addition of pigments in purple or blue. They perfectly clean the yellowness, but if you use them often, the coat will get a bluish tint.
When choosing shampoos, make sure that there are no substances in the composition that act as bleaches, chemicals. They dry the hair and skin, spoil their quality and appearance, although they remove stains.
In order to prevent the wool from tangling and combing easily, you can use conditioners with moisturizing components. There are products that are applied after washing, before cleaning. In addition, it is recommended to use special balms for the lower coat: on the legs, belly. They have a repulsive property, do not allow hairs to dye from external influences.
