What is a stole and how to choose it for a coat?
Initially, a long and wide rectangular openwork knitted fabric with an admixture of fluff, which should be worn on the shoulders or on the head, was called a stole. The modern stole is the same rectangular piece of matter, it is also a wide and long scarf, the material for which can serve as a variety of fabrics: from chiffon to fur.
The stole is a universal thing, it is self-sufficient, that is, it can be thrown and just over the dress. However, with a coat beautifully draped on the shoulders and chest, the stole is able to transform your look from just pretty to sophisticated.
In order for the stole to demonstrate its full potential for a luxurious thing, it is advisable to choose a coat with which it is planned to be worn, either with a high stand-up collar or without a collar at all. Of course, if you tie a stole, then it is the shoulder line, neck and head that are emphasized. However, the color or print of the stole should emphasize the whole image, and not draw attention only to yourself or vice versa, disharmonize with the general style.
Tying methods
Tie a stole nicely is not so difficult. Watch a video where the process is illustrated.
- The easiest way to demonstrate the beauty of the print of the tippet is to tie it with the most ordinary loose single knot on the chest, gently smoothing the cloth on the shoulders and back.
- The method is not much more difficult - it is to fold the stole in half, thread the folded ends into the loop, pull the knot to the neck, and drape the shoulders with the ends.
- If the palatine is monochrome, then you can simulate snood with it. After twisting it slightly, wrap it several times around the neck, and tie the ends of the lush roll formed and tuck inward.Another interpretation of the collar-collar - tie the ends of the stole and make it a figure of eight, and already folded in half, put on over your head.
- A stole of light, airy fabrics can be tied around the neck with any tie knot. You will get a spectacular design, especially if the stole is monochrome.
- If your stole is not very thick and has a beautiful print, then you can make a light but elegant knot. Fold the stole in half, put it on your shoulders. On the one hand you will have a short end with a loop, on the other - two long ones. Now you need to thread the ends of the stole into the loop (do not tighten it at the same time, and even slightly loosen it, then twist the loop with the figure of eight and in the newly formed loop again thread the ends of the stole. Straighten the resulting air bunch of the knot so that the print is clearly visible.
- Thin wrap made of chiffon or silk is great for wearing on your head. Just wrap their head around them in the manner of bandanas and tie them tight behind, leaving the ends hanging down along the back. Greetings from the “roaring twenties,” the time of jazz and charleston.
- Another option for wearing both a thin and thicker tippet on the head is also very simple - make it look like a hood, throwing the ends on your back. In this case, you will receive a free cape on your head. If you are afraid that the stole will fall off your head, then try to tie it like a scarf, wrapping the ends around the neck and securing them with a knot at the back. - You can make a scarf and a hat from a thin stole at the same time. To do this, wrap the palatine head so that the ends are at the back, cross them, wrap the head again, crossing the ends now on the forehead, and send them back again, directing them along the top of the head. You should get a kind of oriental turban with long ends that you can close your neck.
- The gas or chiffon stole, thrown over the shoulders and draped to the front of the coat style, will be interesting. So they were worn in the days of Jen Air.
How to wear a stole with a coat?
- The most beautiful option is to cross the ends of the palatine on one shoulder and throw one of them behind the back, and distribute the rest on the chest with beautiful soft folds, emphasizing the print of the stole. The same method is perfect if your stole is made of fur. In this case, the stole can be fixed with a beautiful brooch or a decorative pin.
- Palatine can wrap the neck and tuck it inside the coat.
- If your coat has a belt, then a tippet thrown over your shoulders can be tucked under it. Spread the hanging ends across the entire width of the coat to demonstrate the beauty of the stole pattern.
- Even if your coat has a collar, English, Apache, turndown or other shaped cut, but you really want to appear in the stole, do not give up your intention. Lift the collar, put the stole on the shoulders, beautifully lay it, if desired, fasten the ends with some decorative element or pull it in a knot and lower the collar over the stole. You can leave the back of the collar raised, which will give an image of elegance.
- Together with the same model, the coat can look quite spectacularly, tied as follows: take the stole in your hand, squeezing it, wrap it around the neck so that its short end hangs from one shoulder (approximately to the chest line), and the long hangs from the other. We wrap the neck with the long end again, pulling the stole as necessary (if the collar is not large, then you can top the collar, otherwise, raise the collar and place the stole under it), then take it at the very tip and fix it over the other shoulder. You will get an elegant drapery.
