The coat is perhaps one of the most stylish and popular options for outerwear. Such a thing adorns the wardrobe of every modern fashionista. These products are made from sufficiently dense, warm materials such as suede, wool, cashmere, and drap. Our article is devoted to the intricacies of ironing and steaming coats made of different materials.
Ironing Features
Wool
Before ironing a coat made of 100% wool, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the instructions for caring for the product. Such information can be found on the label. The ironing process consists of several stages.
- On the iron, the first heating level is selected.
- Before processing the coat with an iron, you need to cover the product with gauze, now you can iron without fearing for wool, it will not suffer. The temperature regime can be increased only if the folds are not smoothed.
- The outer part is ironed only through wet gauze, and the wrong side can be ironed without it, directly.
You need to start from the wrong side, and then move on to the outside.
- Straighten all wrinkled areas before ironing.
- To iron the sleeves, it is better to use a special stand, which is almost every model of an ironing board.
- After that, you can proceed to ironing the coat from the back, collar and lapels. When smoothing the coat hanger, a small, solid pillow is placed for comfort. The English collar must be ironed again to fix its position.
- At the end, iron the seams, you need to do this with the nose of the iron.
If you decide to iron the coat after washing, know: in order not to spoil the thing, you need to iron only completely dried clothes.In addition to ironing, wrinkled folds on the coat can be removed using a steamer or use an iron with this function.
By the way, it is better not to iron a wool coat, namely to steam it so as not to scorch natural fibers. You can spoil the appearance of the coat by tanning marks and glossy pieces that appear after ironing. In no case should you iron a dirty coat. Particles of dirt after treatment are highly corroded, it will be difficult to fix it.
Now we will consider two ways that will help bring a woolen coat into proper shape without the use of special tools.
- Coats are laid out on the table surface, folds with folds are straightened, and too wrinkled zones are covered with a damp cloth, for example, a terry cloth. So the product should lie 8 hours. Then you can hang it on a hanger.
- In the bathroom, they include hot water, tightly close the door, artificially creating the effect of a steam room. When the steam has completely filled the room, you can hang a coat. This should be done over hot water, observing a gap of at least 25 cm. The product in this position is left for a period of up to 4 hours (wrinkles can be smoothed out earlier). After obtaining the desired result, the coat can be hung in the living room and allowed to dry.
Cashmere
A cashmere product requires special care. The methods described above for smoothing a woolen coat, of course, can also be used, but you still need to iron cashmere things with special care. The material is quite moody, therefore, requires careful care.
There are such coat models that you can’t iron at all, only steaming will help here. It is best to steam the coat when it is hanging on a hanger. The temperature on the steamer or iron is set to minimum.
Synthetics
Polyester items do not tolerate high temperatures. At the same time, a coat made of polyester is considered the most wear-resistant, it practically does not crease. Folds may form after improper drying. If this happens, do not be discouraged, the product can always be smoothed out by steaming or regular ironing.
The “silk” mode is set on the iron. The coat is turned inside out, ironed. In this case, it is not necessary to specifically press on the material with an iron.
After ironing, the clothes should hang for several hours at room temperature. You don’t need to remove the coat immediately in the closet. To choose the optimal temperature parameter for smoothing the wrinkled coat, before processing the main material, you need to go through the iron on a separate patch, which is on the lining.
Combined materials
To steam or iron the product from the combined material will turn out in several stages. First of all, they iron the main canvas, then move on to the remaining details: sleeves, collar, patch pockets and other decorative elements. The lining of the coat is ironed last.
A thin coat without filler can simply be ironed from the inside out. Clothing with a thick layer of insulation must be ironed according to certain rules.
- First you need to completely turn the thing inside out and put it on an ironing board.
- Heavily wrinkled areas are covered with wet gauze before ironing. Instead, you can use any thin cotton fabric.
- Ironed clothes put on special coat hanger.
To return the lapels or collar on which the seams wrinkle back to their original appearance, you need to close the problem area with a damp cloth, slightly extend the lapel or collar angle with your hand and straighten the seam with the tip of the iron. Next, the part must be ironed again. By the way, too often it is better not to iron the coat.
Using a steam iron
Processing products with a steam iron offers many advantages:
- delicate processing of clothes;
- prevents the appearance of tan marks;
- even the thinnest fabric can be ironed;
- steam will be distributed evenly.
A significant drawback of a steam iron is that this device is too large and takes up a lot of space in the room, since the design consists of a body and a volumetric water tank. In this tank, heating of the liquid takes place, which forms the vapor supplied to the iron. By the way, the cost of this device is also attributed to disadvantages.
