Wigs: features and rules of care

Using a wig, you can instantly change the image, as well as hide your own hair under this “hat” when it requires treatment. To solve such problems, products made of artificial hair are often chosen. To keep wigs presentable for a long time, you need to be able to properly care for them.

Compared with a product made of natural strands, a wig made of artificial hair is cheaper, it is lightweight, which ensures its comfortable wearing. The head in it does not sweat and its own hair is not damaged. For the production of artificial wigs, different materials are used. Acrylic, vinyl or polyamide shine brightly, although they look unnatural. In addition, they are tough and quickly get confused. These materials are taken to create the hair of the dolls, and wigs from them without proper care quickly lose their presentable appearance.

Beauty accessories, where Kanekalon is used for “fake” hair, are more like real hair. Even to the touch, such hair is not too different from human hair, moreover, it does not fluff. Some can even be curled without fear to disrupt the structure of the material that simulates the strands, and the curls will retain their original appearance for a long time. Thanks to such things, you can radically change your hair style for a while. In order not to make a haircut, cutting off, for example, your own long hair, you just need to put on a wig such as a bob with a bang or some other, and stay in this form for one evening. It is not for nothing that lovers of experiments have in their arsenal entire collections of women's wigs.

Caring for a wig at home is fundamentally not much different from caring for your own hair.

However, much here depends on how often it is worn and in what conditions it is worn. Indoors, it does not get dirty as fast as on the street.

Ordinary shampoo for washing artificial hair is not suitable, its use can ruin the product. Therefore, you need to acquire the means intended for wigs. If you wash artificial strands with them, there is no risk of disturbing the structure of such hair. Before the start of “water procedures”, this hair should be combed and untangled, the resulting nodules using a comb with rare long and round teeth.

For convenience, a wig can be worn on a blank or simply on the head. It should be combed in the same way as ordinary hair - in a row, starting from the ends and moving higher and higher to the roots. Short hair is easier to comb than long. In the process, it is better not to make sudden movements so that the strands are not further tangled. If a curly wig is being prepared for washing, it is advisable not to use a comb, but to arrange the hair with your fingers.

To wash wigs, use boiled cooled water. Some add soda to it. When washing, a little shampoo is poured into a basin with warm water, foamed and the product is immersed there for 15–20 minutes. After this, it must be washed in water at room temperature, acting very carefully, without trying to wash like clothes with a hand wash, twisting and crumbling in a liquid. If there is pollution on the wig that does not go away, for example, the remains of cosmetics, you can take a toothbrush with very soft bristles and carefully treat such a place.

Then transfer the product to another water, where the hair balm is diluted. Here the wig will soak for another 10 minutes. Thanks to this procedure, artificial curls will become softer and more obedient. To wash off the balm, the wig should be washed in clean, slightly warm water with the addition of a small amount of fabric softener. This will protect unnatural hair from static electricity.

The washed wig should be wrapped in a towel and squeezed out a little. You can’t act rudely, trying to immediately wipe dry or unscrew the artificial hair. It makes sense to leave the wig in a towel for 15 minutes, then sprinkle it with a spray-conditioner or special serum for such products. You do not need to wash it off. So that the wig does not wrinkle during drying, it is put on a blank. It is better to take the same jar or mannequin head, if it is available on the farm.

You need to dry away from direct sunlight in a natural way. It usually takes about 8 hours for this accessory to create beauty and transformation to completely dry. Dry with a hairdryer, as well as lay, straighten or curl artificial hair with the help of heating devices, it is possible only on thermocouples. You can return the product to its previous shape by shaking it after drying, combing it again, and also turning your hair in the right direction with your fingers. To facilitate your task, you can use mousse for styling.

Sometimes it happens that the color of the wig does not suit. Many are annoyed by the unnatural radiance of artificial hair. To make the shine go away, it is recommended to treat such strands with baby powder. Even if you want drastic changes, it’s risky to try to turn a black wig into white and vice versa. Using ordinary hair dye for this kind of experiment means ruining the fibers that make up fake hair.

To update the appearance of the accessory, you can try changing the color of several strands, for example, next to the face.To achieve this, it is enough to paint over them with an alcohol-based marker, but this only applies to accessories with blond hair.

To dye your wig dark, you can use ink. They are able to give artificial curls a black, blue or purple hue. It must be borne in mind that it will not be sustainable. So, deciding on such experiments, you need to think 10 times, but is it worth it. To change the color of the accessory, some use acrylic paints in spray cans. The wig is laid out on a plane and the composition is sprayed so that the hair is evenly colored. Dry the product for at least 3 hours.

For many, changing the original color of the wig is a necessary measure. Sometimes it is necessary for cosplay or disguise. But those who use such products regularly are likely to prefer to have several wigs of different colors on hand. They don’t have to worry about the fact that under the influence of precipitation or just from time to time the paint will begin to come off the product, spoiling the clothes at the same time while wearing.

Any wig, no matter how well looked after, gradually loses its festive look. It is becoming increasingly difficult to comb through it and at some point it turns out that it is no longer possible to restore its former beauty or at least bring it into a relative order. If at the ends he became very shaggy, it is easier not to try to return him to a decent condition with a comb, but simply to shave the ends. With frequent wear, you will have to do a haircut every six months.

They store such products in special nets that help maintain the shape of wigs. Do not store the packaged accessory in the cabinet for storage. It needs to provide access to fresh air. In addition, the room should not be damp. If the wig is stored on a blank until the next appearance on people with artificial hair, it is preferable to determine for it a place on the shelf where the sun's rays do not fall and where the heating radiator does not fry.
