Wishful thinking is a wicked joke played by people with irrational thinking. As a result - stress, depression, suicide attempts. We will try to figure out how to avoid harmful thoughts and where they come from in the framework of this article.
What it is?
Irrational feelings based thinking. Such thoughts appear as if from nowhere. It seems to a person that he unexpectedly "received his sight." Often he is helped by this from the side, in particular when it comes to religious fans. In psychology, the irrational is considered one of the most dangerous types of thinking..
Often people possessing it try to establish a life bypassing all the rules and regulations. They do not recognize generally accepted postulates and as a result become hostages of their own illusions. They are characterized by some special characteristics, we list them.
Excessive suspicion
Thoughts, originally similar to prophetic, in the end lead a person to a standstill. Observer ideas like:
- I know that he thinks badly of me;
- he knows that I speak ill of him;
- they consider me evil;
- enemies around, etc.
Generalization of everything
Such thoughts pose a person with non-existent and at the same time insurmountable obstacles. The following signals come from the head:
- I did not complete the task last time, which means that I will never succeed;
- this teacher "knocks" on exams all in a row, which means that I can not pass the test;
- this girl refuses to meet with everyone, which means that she will give me a turn from the gate.
Exaggeration of the "magic" abilities of others
A person begins to consider himself an “open book”, which anyone can look into. He is sure that:
- they see him through;
- everyone thinks that he is not like everyone else;
- all notice his excitement;
- any person sees his flaws.
All these "postulates" lead to the fact that a person falls into a vicious circle, which he cannot and does not want to leave.
Anyone who has a highly developed irrational thinking believes that he understands everything perfectly. They are driven not by knowledge, but by premonitions. Often the most base instincts.
Typology
Even if you understand a little how irrational thoughts are born in your head, you can immediately understand that they do not belong there. Well, unless, of course, you have the same supernatural powers as the great Bulgarian fortuneteller Vanga.
If your “visions” are more likely an exception than a rule, it’s time to say goodbye to them.
First, look among your thoughts for those that fall under such descriptions:
- appear spontaneously;
- interfere with smart decisions;
- reduce labor productivity;
- reduce self-esteem;
- cause anxiety and irritability;
- violate harmony with the outside world;
- cause fear;
- contribute to the development of suspicion and lead to loneliness;
- create problems in both personal and professional life;
- cause addiction to bad habits;
- emit "idols" whose appeals seem to be the only true laws of life.
Exactly people with irrational thinking, inclined to believe in miracles, most often find themselves in the grip of forbidden sects. They themselves do not notice how, under the influence of the "spell" of their leaders, they lose loved ones, work, welfare. Yesterday's successful businessman literally overnight becomes flexible material in the hands of skilled "puppeteers." The threads they pull for seem magical. Unfortunately, this is far from the case.
Causes
A fairy tale is a lie, but a hint in it. And if, having reached adulthood, you still do not understand this, most likely you have problems. A person who cannot distinguish fiction from real history, a lie from the truth, is unable to understand why an event occurs, is irrational.
This property appears in each of us in childhood. When we wait for Santa Claus or call for a mouse that will take our pain into its hole, this is nothing more than a vivid manifestation of irrational thinking. But having matured, a person should realize that not all children's beliefs are true, and in principle, an adult should not reason like a child. If this does not happen, then first of all it leads to the problem of adaptation in life. Such a citizen cannot become a full-fledged part of society, since installations that interfere with integration work in his head:
- I have no right to make a mistake;
- I must save the world;
- the world must save me;
- all around me is utter horror;
- I can’t cope with it and survive this.
People with this mindset are afraid of any mistake. Moreover, they are not afraid of the fact of the error itself, but of the attitude of others around them in relation to it. It always seems to them that they are being laughed at and bullied.
Such obsessive thoughts lead to depression or to a “spiritual” center with a healer of souls at the head. Although in this case a person has only one right way - to a specialist in a medical institution or to a psychologist’s office.
How to fight?
Independently recognizing irrationality is quite difficult. If the case is running, then you should still contact a specialist.
If you believe in your own strengths, are ready for introspection and changes in life, perform special exercises.
- Keep a diary and write down all the thoughts that cause you anxiety or any other negative emotions. It will soon become clear where they come from and what causes them to be born. Over time, this way a “barrier” appears in your head that will not allow irrational ideas.
- Don't panicif even suddenly it seemed that the whole world turned against you. A colleague or close friend refused to communicate, and this became the reason for despondency. Perhaps they are just in a bad mood or they are tired.And everything that happens has nothing to do with your personal relationships. Always try to look at the situation from the side of someone who is nearby. Is it when you're sad, are you ready for a fun chat? Get in place of your counterpart. It will soon become clear that the devil is not so terrible as your consciousness has painted it. Just a friend was suddenly out of sorts. This happens to everyone, and this is not a reason to let all the dogs down on themselves.
- Find the middle ground. Stop throwing from one extreme to another. Exclude words such as “terrible”, “impossible”, “excellent”, “best of all”, “worst of all” and so on from the vocabulary. Try to operate with less categorical evaluations. Give the right to make mistakes both for ourselves and others.
- Do not cross yourself. Even if it seems that the situation is hopeless, never let the thought that it will kill you, make life unbearable. Remember that there are more important things in life.
Be confident in yourself and in your abilities to cope with any task. And believe me, sooner or later, the world will surely “bend under you.”
