Nowadays, when TV screens and pages of glossy magazines are filled with artificial beauties, naturalness is especially appreciated. There are no exceptions and hair, which can always look spectacular and truly luxurious, if you choose the right color technique and shades suitable for tinting. For brunettes, stylists recommend resorting to Venetian highlighting, which creates the effect of strands burnt out in the sun.

What it is?

When creating the Venetian highlighting, stylists drew their inspiration from films about Rome of the Renaissance. It is well known that nature rewarded Italian women with burning black hair, and no dye was invented at that time, so noble Italians took off their hats and put their heads under the rays of the scorching sun. Nature did its job and the strands acquired cognac, honey and wheat shades. In a modern design Venetian highlighting is the lightening of individual strands by 2-3 tones; when stained, the curls are chosen randomly and tinted in several related shades. As a result, after the procedure, soft overflows are formed on the head, no contrasting tones are allowed here.

Venetian highlighting for brunettes is a good way to change your image without resorting to radical techniques. It is very popular with dark-haired women, makes the hairstyle more prominent and multi-layered.Lighter curls give the appearance of sexuality and charm, soften the contour of the face and emphasize the expressiveness of the look, and the dark color emphasizes the geometry of the haircut, as a result the appearance becomes more refined and finished.

Staining in the Venetian technique has its advantages and disadvantages. The following features of highlighting are among the advantages:

  • in this case, only part of the hair is dyed, while the root zone is not affected; such staining dries naturally without the use of foil; therefore, the method injures strands less than conventional staining;
  • in most cases, when conducting Venetian highlighting, several shades of the same color are used, therefore, the result is an effective distribution of color over the entire mass of hair;
  • Venetian highlighting emphasizes multilayer and graded haircuts, cascade and asymmetry;
  • as the hair grows, the difference between full and colored curls is almost imperceptible, so the growing roots look natural and harmonious; Such a hairstyle needs correction only after 3-4 months;
  • staining has no age restrictions - it looks spectacular on both very young girls and women with more elegant hair, and light highlights visually rejuvenate the face, make the oval more toned and distract attention from the age-related changes that have begun.

However, it was not without drawbacks. Since dyeing is done on dark blond and black hair, to create the effect of strands burnt out in the sun, they need to be partially discolored, as a result, there is always a risk of overdrying locks, which makes hair more like tow. The technique is not suitable for all color types. However, even despite the high cost of dyeing and the risk of damaging some of the curls, the result is invariably luxurious, and with proper hair care, they remain soft and delicate, and the color is saturated.

How to choose a shade?

In the search for the optimal color for the Venetian highlighting, it is very important to choose the right shades, otherwise your expectations may not coincide with reality. The optimal color should be in harmony with the tone of the main head of hair, the color of the skin and eyes of women. As a rule, brunettes are suitable for highlighting with chocolate, coffee and nut shades. For owners of brown and red hair it is better to give preference to sand, honey and copper shades, and caramel, wheat tones, as well as ocher and ash look good on dark blond strands.

Keep in mind that for women of a "warm" color type, it is best to use warm shades, and for "cold" types of appearance, respectively, cold.

Execution technique

Venetian highlighting is not suitable for all women. First of all, you should not do it if chemical stranding or keratin straightening was done on the strands before. The technique is not recommended for girls who previously dyed their hair with henna, basma or other vegetable dyes - they prevent the penetration of pigment, as a result, the color at the exit may turn out to be the most unexpected. In this case, highlighting can be done no earlier than 4–5 months after staining.

In addition, any manipulations on hair coloring by future mothers and lactating women, as well as during the course of antibiotic, hormone, and chemotherapy, are strictly prohibited. Highlighting is contraindicated in the presence of any skin diseases and a tendency to allergic reactions. If the hair is thin and weakened, a series of restorative procedures should first be carried out. To do this, you need to do nourishing masks at least 3-4 times a week, apply serums and oils, which will help prepare curls for toning.

Otherwise, the strands will be thoroughly damaged and their regeneration will require a lot of effort, money and time.

Venice highlighting is not so difficult to do on your own at home, it does not require the use of hats, foils and other tools that are needed for other types of coloring. All you need is to decide on the choice of shade and stock up on free time. You will need at least 2 hours for all procedures. Before staining, prepare the following devices and tools:

  • paint mixing bowl;
  • scallop with rare small teeth;
  • brushes of two types - wide and narrow;
  • latex gloves;
  • Cape
  • clamps for strands;
  • paint.

Important! Immediately before highlighting, you need to cut off the cut ends, thoroughly rinse your head with deep-action shampoo and dry the strands.

Before you begin to work, you need to know that the Venetian technique involves tinting strands indented 4-5 cm from the roots. First, you need to test the paint on a thin strand from the back of the head, if you liked the shade, then this tool needs to be applied to all other curls. In this case, the curls can be selected as very narrow, and, conversely, wide, alternating them with each other and using different brushes. The most popular paints for home use are brand products. “Londa”, “Garnier”, “Pallet” and “Estelle”. Coloring compositions, in addition to brighteners and pigments, include emollient oils for curls, components of plant extracts and healing components.

Step-by-step instructions for highlighting are as follows:

  1. for starters, paint is diluted in a special container;
  2. then you need to choose a working lock, and fix the rest with clamps;
  3. the curl is pulled and the paste is carefully smeared on it;
  4. all other strands are treated in the same way;
  5. the composition is kept on the hair for 30–45 minutes;
  6. at the end of the exposure time, the hair is thoroughly washed with shampoo and applied balm.

In order to get the result that was expected, you need to know a few subtleties. So, the longer the composition is held on the hair - the more light the shade will turn out. During highlighting, you need to carefully remove the mixture from one of the occipital curls - so you can understand how much the color has changed in comparison with the original. Venetian highlighting is considered one of the most persistent types of dyeing - the result remains unchanged on curls for at least 2 months, and since when dyeing the zone near the roots was not affected, as the hair grows, the border between native and dyed hair is almost invisible and frequent adjustments are not required.

Despite the simplicity of the Venetian technique, in the absence of the necessary experience of staining, mistakes can be made. The most common is the wrong choice of color schemes and the thickness of the strands, as well as non-compliance with the indentation requirements. Moreover, any attempt to rectify the situation can only exacerbate the already deplorable situation, which most negatively affects the condition of the hair. In order not to damage the hair during the procedure, you should choose the right paint - it is better to give preference to professional products that do not contain ammonia.

If you can’t decide on your own hair shade on your own, it’s worth stopping at nude colors, they will not be too striking.

It is imperative that the application of paint on all strands takes approximately the same time, otherwise the coloring will be uneven. Typically, in salons this problem is solved due to the increased speed of work, but at home, potential color inconsistencies can be mitigated by alternately staining asymmetrically located curls. If you nevertheless made a mistake, then only a professional master should correct it.As a rule, colorists resort to tinting, so that you can effectively change the color of your hair. Unsuccessful Venetian highlighting can be corrected by such methods as:

  • after a few weeks, repeat the tinting procedure;
  • use a special wash, which helps to restore the original color of the hair;
  • dye all hair in a single color.

In any case, there is no need to worry - the Venetian highlighting is easily leveled and takes an aesthetic, well-groomed appearance.

Follow-up care

In order for your hair color to please you as long as possible, you should properly care for colored curls, namely:

  • only special sulfate-free shampoos should be used for washing hair, otherwise the coloring pigment will be washed out and the glare will become dull and faded;
  • at least once a week, care procedures for hair should be performed - masks, serums and rinses;
  • it is necessary to minimize all thermal effects on the hair - you should limit the use of hot air when drying hair, as well as styling with ploes and irons.
