A sofa is that element of upholstered furniture that is present in absolutely every apartment, any house or office space. It would seem that what problems may arise with him - this is just an object on which it is so convenient to sit or lie down. But precisely because this furniture is so in demand, it is very quickly contaminated.

The constant accumulation of dust and dirt can lead to the fact that the sofa simply becomes unsuitable for further use. It must be carefully and constantly looked after. There are many ways, using which you can clean upholstered fabric furniture. In this article we will talk about the dry method.

What it is?

Dry cleaning the sofa is one of the possible ways to remove dirt from upholstered furniture. Recently, this type of cleaning is preferred by almost all cleaning companies.

The thing is that:

  • it is more effective;
  • takes less time;
  • can be applied to all types of fabrics, especially those that are categorically not recommended for wetting with water, for example, silk, velvet, tapestry;
  • cleaning products used in the dry cleaning process are completely safe both for human health and for sofa upholstery.

Dry cleaning can be of two types:

  • powder - The main effective cleaning agent is powder, which includes “micro-sponges” that absorb all contaminants;
  • foamy - in this case, the cleaning agent is a special foam that is applied to the surface, and then removed with a sponge or soft cloth.

Despite all the advantages and simplicity of the dry cleaning method, everyone should understand that it is unlikely to remove all impurities, especially complex stains that have already been eaten, on their own. To achieve 100% result, it is better to trust professionals.

What is required?

If you are confident in yourself and in your abilities, then you can try using the dry cleaning method, independently cleaning the sofa at home. But before you get started, you need to purchase everything you need in the process.

Instruments

You will need:

  • a brush, preferably with soft bristles;
  • a bucket or other container for preparing a cleaning product;
  • vacuum cleaner;
  • dry wipes or sponges.

As you can see, all of the above is available and, most likely, is in every home.

Funds

Earlier in the article, we already wrote that there are two types of dry cleaning. It follows that you will need or dry foam, or powder. You can purchase these cleaning products at any store that specializes in selling furniture, or order online.

Only when buying this or that remedy, you need to carefully read the composition, recommendations for use and instructions provided by the manufacturer. And also pay attention to the shelf life of the product, giving preference to well-known brands.

How to do it yourself?

Consider an algorithm for removing contaminants for each type of dry cleaning.

Foam cleaning consists of several stages.

  • At the first stage, it is desirable to remove part of the dust from the upholstery of the sofa or cover with a vacuum cleaner or a regular mallet.
  • Next, you need to prepare the foam. The method of preparation of the product must be looked at the factory packaging. Carefully read and follow the instructions indicated by the manufacturer.
  • The finished mixture is applied to the surface of the sofa.
  • A certain period of time, the foam should be on the upholstery and absorb dirt.
  • After this, the foam is removed with a dry rag or vacuum cleaner.

Powder cleaning:

  • as in the previous instructions, dust must be removed;
  • powder detergent is applied evenly to the surface of the sofa, and it is advisable to rub it lightly into the upholstery;
  • when the color of the powder changes, it can be removed with a vacuum cleaner.

On the packaging of such a cleaning product the manufacturer should also indicate the time during which it should be on the surface of the sofa.

Folk recipes

  2. Salt. This is an effective cleaner that can remove even stains from wine, only fresh ones. Salt should be poured onto the contaminated area and wait until the liquid is absorbed, then wipe with a napkin or sponge.
  3. A piece of chalk. Using it, you can remove even fresh greasy stain from the sofa upholstery. Chalk is crushed and applied to the contaminated area for 15 minutes.
