Patches can talk about our hobbies or worldviews.

Patches on clothes were not always just an element of style. Initially, a patch meant belonging to a specific occupation or group of people. Today, this function of stripes is often forgotten, and they are used only as a decoration or a way to hide defects on clothing.

However, there remained areas of life in which patches are given great importance, since they serve as a means of transmitting information (this applies, for example, to power structures).

In this article, we will tell you about the role of stripes in modern fashion, namely about stripes on women's jackets. You will find out what kind of stripes are, how to sew them properly and with what things jackets decorated with stripes can be combined.

Kinds

There are a huge number of various options for patches on clothes. They vary in scope, in shape and in the manner of attachment.

According to the scope of use (or subject), the following varieties of stripes can be distinguished:

  • military;
  • sports;
  • biker
  • training;
  • corporate etc.

Depending on the shape, these types of stripes are distinguished:

  • rounded
  • rectangular;
  • curly;
  • in the form of a shield, etc.

If we talk about fashionable jackets, then most of them are decorated with individual stripes that do not have any meaning and do not belong to any of the above categories. It can be abstract drawings, images of famous characters, animals, etc. - that is, such stripes perform an exclusively decorative function.

There are several possible ways to attach stripes to clothing, for example:

  • sewing;
  • Velcro mount
  • gluing;
  • pin mount;
  • magnetic fastener;
  • mount on a keychain.

Jacket stripes

Patches are a great way to upgrade an old denim or leather jacket. They can not only refresh and give a new charm to things that are already boring, but also serve as a patch that will not be evident. Consider the most interesting options for placing stripes on jackets.

On the back

Large stripes look best on the back of the jacket - this is exactly the case when instead of several small images one should choose one large. Patches on the back in the form of wings, birds or representatives of the cat family are very popular with girls.

On the chest

Patches are usually placed on the chest that carry important information, such as personal data, unit name, etc. But, since we are not talking about a uniform, but about fashionable clothes, the stripes on the front of the jacket can be anything. Usually small images are chosen for this place.

Looks great a few small stripes grouped on the chest, united by a common theme

On the sleeves

The stripes on the sleeves are often exclusively practical - they strengthen the fabric in places that are most prone to abrasion - on the elbows, cuffs, etc. Usually they are located symmetrically on two sleeves, but the images do not have to be the same. Small patches with paired designs look best.

Biker Patches

One of the largest communities that actively use clothing patches is bikers. Biker jackets are full of images that can tell a lot about the owner of the motorcycle. In addition to belonging to a specific biker organization, stripes on the jacket can talk about the worldview of a motorcyclist

How to sew?

Attaching a patch to a jacket is very easy - even if you have very little experience with a needle and thread, then all the work will take no more than 30 minutes.

First, choose a suitable place for the patch. Then we fix it with double-sided adhesive tape or safety pins - so the patch will not move out while we sew it. If you are afraid to perforate a patch, you can simply circle it with a remnant or a washable marker.

Now we take a needle with a thread in the tone of the patch (or contrasting - as you like more) and begin to carefully sew the patch, folding the thread in half for strength.

At the end of the thread we tie a knot, which we hide in the first stitch under the patch. Sewing on the patch is best with hidden stitches. Try to make stitches small and not very frequent. After a circle, we make a loop around the last stitch, tighten the knot and hide it next to the first. Now you can cut the thread and enjoy the work done.

What to wear?

Jackets with stripes can be worn with a variety of things - it all depends on the style and style of the jacket and what is depicted on the stripes. Almost all of these jackets go well with jeans, T-shirts, sneakers or high boots. Skinny trousers or a short skirt will also be in harmony with a jacket decorated with stripes.

Modern fashion favors combinations of seemingly incompatible things. Therefore, romantic dresses, sundresses, light blouses and tops can be an excellent accompaniment to a leather or jeans jacket with stripes.
