Cooking is a process that gives pleasure and brings a lot of positive emotions. But only on condition that all cooking appliances are perfectly clean. This is especially true for baking sheets, which not everyone does not always notice, and only after discovering a huge amount of soot, they begin to look for means of removing it. In order not to spend a lot of time and money on cleaning, you should know in advance which methods will help you quickly and easily deal with both fresh dirt and old burnt fat.
Basic Rules
The baking sheets on which the food is cooked in the oven are usually made of aluminum or glass, but the coating can be Teflon or enameled. Before you start cleaning at home, be sure to decide what kind of material your product has. This is very important because what is perfect for one coating will be completely unacceptable for another.
As a result of the wrong choice, the kitchen attribute will be spoiled, the coating can “crawl”, and this will entail burning of food and an unpleasant smell during cooking.
To prevent such troubles, several important rules should be taken into account.
- Glass and enamel are washed only with sponges, with the soft side. Do not rub even old grease with metal brushes or scrapers.
- In cleaning baking trays of glass and enamel also do not use powder products. Particles of powder are no better than hard sponges, they can scratch the coating. Choose liquid or gel formulations.
- Before washing the aluminum pan, scrape off the fat as much as possible with a wooden spatula.
- It will be much easier to wash any baking sheets from soot and old fat if you soak them for several hours in warm water with a small amount of liquid dishwashing detergent.
Folk techniques
Folk remedies are good in that the components for cleaning can be found in almost any home.
And even if they are not, then in most cases the ingredients are mere pennies, in addition, the choice is quite large.
Let's see what can be used to restore the original sparkling appearance to the pan.
Soda and salt
This combination is an excellent solution for aluminum baking trays. Mix a little salt and soda, and then apply the mixture to especially contaminated places.
After waiting a few minutes, rub them well with a sponge. It also happens that the method does not help, but there is another option:
- mix soda and salt, cover the baking sheet with an even layer;
- put in an oven heated to 100 degrees and wait half an hour;
- let the dishes cool and rub them again with a sponge.
Soda and Vinegar
This is another way of high-quality cleaning of aluminum baking sheets:
- pour a little water into the container, add half a tablespoon of soda and vinegar;
- preheat the oven to 100 degrees and place a baking sheet, but make sure that water does not splash;
- after half an hour, remove the container, wait for cooling and wipe well.
Soda and soap
This technique will save aluminum sheets from particularly difficult contaminants, for example, burnt baking, jam, sticky sleeves for baking. However, the process is fraught with certain difficulties:
- Find a container that will be more baking sheet;
- fill the sheet with water, and then add two tablespoons of soda and the same amount of soap solution to it;
- simmer for half an hour, over low heat.
Ammonia
This method is quite effective, also suitable for aluminum:
- a small amount of the agent is poured onto the sheet;
- with a sponge, which will subsequently have to be thrown away, the layer is made uniform;
- put in a cold oven and close the door well;
- after 12 hours, stains can be easily removed.
The disadvantage of this technique is in an unpleasant odor, therefore it is important that the oven door is closed as tightly as possible. Besides, it is advisable to completely close the door to the kitchen.
As for enameled, ceramic and glass containers for cooking, it will be a little more difficult to wash them, but it is still possible. One effective way would be simple soaking. To do this, you only need to fill the sheet with hot water and drip there a little liquid for washing dishes. After a few hours, you can try to remove carbon deposits.
Traces of burnt oil can be easily cleaned with mustard, this procedure is best done at night. In the evening, sprinkle dry pan with mustard and pour boiling water over it. In the morning, it will be much easier to wash the dishes. Also, if you do not want to wait so much time, use the usual baking powder for the test. At the bottom, pour a little baking powder, sprayed with water, leave for 30 minutes. Over time, the baking sheet is easily washed.
Another available remedy is sweet soda, for example, "Cola." You can pour it on the bottom of the container and leave for a couple of hours, or you can boil it directly on the sheet for 5-10 minutes.
Chemicals
Purchased products for cleaning carbon deposits and old fat will be a good alternative to home methods. They are recommended to be acquired by those mistresses who do not have time all at once, and are waiting for quick results.
But before use, do not forget to carefully read the instructions, since different means have different actions.
For example, some apply and immediately begin cleaning, while others take time to take action. In addition, the work is always carried out with rubber gloves, as funds can injure the skin.
Consider which chemical detergents will help clean old fat.
- Amway. The composition is concentrated, it must be diluted.Helps to clean not only the baking sheets, but the entire oven. In the kit for the tool there is a brush, which is to be applied.
- Clean Up. Another effective tool that should be applied with a spray. After waiting for the time specified by the manufacturer, the composition is washed off. Clean Up does not contain any substances harmful to health, gives a mirror shine and provides surfaces with water-repellent properties.
- Eco-Max. The gel-like composition that is applied to the dirt and wiped with a sponge. This tool not only perfectly cleanses, but also disinfects the container, due to the presence of red grapefruit and lactic acid in the extracts.
- "Shine." A thick paste-like product, after application you need to wait 20-30 minutes, and then just rinse the mixture with a sponge and water.
How to prevent pollution?
Cleaning a baking sheet is a thing that, as a rule, is always delayed until later, because it is much more difficult to completely remove fat than to wash even the dirtiest pan. However, this approach is fundamentally wrong, and soot can be prevented if you have several rules in your arsenal.
- No matter what material your baking sheet or coating is made of, in any case it is better to apply a “protection”. For example, bake meat or fish in foil, and lay out pastries on parchment paper. Of course, this will not completely eliminate the remnants of the products, but it will be much easier to wash such a baking sheet.
- If there is no time or effort to wipe off the fat after cooking, fill the container with hot water and add a little dishwashing liquid. This will be a much more correct step than the next day trying to scrape off the remnants of food from the surface.
- Always consider the material for making dishes. For example, aluminum baking sheets lend themselves perfectly to abrasives; they can be rubbed, polished, and powdered products used. Teflon, glass and other surfaces will not tolerate such treatment, only liquid compositions can be used here, and in no case should you scrape with a knife, fork or metal spatula in an attempt to remove an adhered piece or deposit.
If you have already ruined the coating, then it will be quite difficult to restore such a baking sheet. A damaged coating can pose a threat to health, and therefore the container will have to be replaced.
Thus, you can make sure that there are a lot of means for cleaning the pan from different types of contaminants, and you can choose what you like. With only a little effort, you will get beautiful, sparkling dishes, which will be much more pleasant to cook in than in those that contain traces of old soot. In addition, it is more beneficial for health, because you can be sure that bacteria have not accumulated on the baking sheet that can get into food and cause poisoning.
