When choosing kitchen plumbing, you need to consider many parameters, among which are efficiency, reliability, design, dimensions, safety and ease of use. Therefore, it is worth considering the common types of kitchen faucets with a high spout and familiarize yourself with the main tips for their choice.
Features
It is customary to attribute products of this type to faucets whose spout height is more than 25 cm. Such plumbing is intended mainly for sinks with a depth of more than 23 cm.
If you put such a mixer on a less deep sink (especially with a flat bottom), then a stream of water falling from a great height will splash over the edges of the sink, which will ensure that puddles appear on the floor of your kitchen and reduce the convenience of using the sink.
You should also consider the width of the sink - narrow sinks do not combine well with the high location of the spout. Installing an aerator will help reduce the amount of spray.
Another drawback of such a product arrangement is that they occupy a lot of space, which limits the possibility of placing shelves for dishes, a boiler or other kitchen equipment and furniture above the sink. Swivel models additionally require enough free space on the side of the sink.
The high location of the spout allows you to use such a mixer to wash or fill with water tall dishes: pots, bottles and vases.
In such models, it is easy to change the gasket, which facilitates their repair.
Varieties
According to the design of the spout, the mixers are:
- S-shaped;
- L-shaped;
- R-shaped;
- J-shaped;
- compact - a flexible spout can be extended from the housing, which allows them to be used as a mini-shower.
Mobility distinguish between options with a swivel and fixed nose.
According to the principle of action, there are:
- single lever mixers - allow you to quickly create the desired temperature of the water flow, compact, easy to install, quite hopeful and economical, but can become unusable if there are solid impurities in the water like sand;
- dual valve models - differ in a simple design and economy, but take up a little more space and require frequent replacement of gaskets in cranes;
- thermostatic - allow you to set and maintain the required temperature and water pressure, but are expensive and consume electricity;
- contactless - due to the reduced number of mechanical components, they are more reliable, economically consume water and allow you to choose the right temperature, but they are quite expensive and not very convenient for use in the kitchen because of the need to constantly keep your hands near the sensors.
There is also a classification by material:
- stainless steel - characterized by high mechanical strength, resistance to temperature extremes and corrosion, service life up to 25 years;
- brass - differ significantly less than that of steel, the mass with slightly lower rates of mechanical and temperature resistance, due to which they can serve correctly for 10 years;
- bronze - the properties are similar to brass, but have a little more fragility and weight, as well as a more beautiful appearance;
- ceramics - It looks very beautiful, but differs in fragility, high price and the need for careful care;
- aluminum and its alloys (mainly silumin) - characterized by low price and light construction, but are easily deformed, do not tolerate water pressure above 3 atmospheres, sometimes contain lead compounds (especially cheap Chinese models) and rarely work without breakdowns and corrosion for more than 1 year;
- plastic - they are absolutely not subject to corrosion, they are light and durable, easy to maintain, but the guaranteed service life rarely exceeds 2 years.
It is worth paying attention to the coating material:
- enamel - It is resistant to corrosion and mechanical damage, but can be chipped when struck with sharp and hard objects, enamel coatings are for every taste: white, red, black, beige, while metal coatings usually have the color gold, copper or metallic;
- chrome - protects against corrosion and bacteria, looks good, but less durable than other types of coatings;
- nickel - similar in properties to chromium, but differs in less durability, moreover, it becomes faster coated, but due to its gloss the nickel coating looks more beautiful than matte chrome;
- stainless steel - the most durable material, which has a relatively high price, aesthetic properties are inferior to all other coatings.
