A furniture cover is not only a way to keep the upholstery in its original form, but also the ability to easily and quickly change the situation in the room. And if we are talking about such a frequently visited apartment room as a kitchen, then a cover on a kitchen corner is a useful and, of course, nice thing. It will protect upholstered furniture from splashes of grease, stains, settling dust and much more, which can threaten sitting in the kitchen.

Features of choice

Since the corners can be of completely different sizes and configurations, it is best to sew the most suitable option yourself, because buying a euro-cover without armrests or ordering it from a designer can be much more expensive. And if you sew several copies, the situation in the kitchen can be changed by simply changing the cover and the rest of the textiles - towels, curtains, potholders and tablecloths.

How to sew a case by yourself?

This is quite easy to do with primary sewing skills. What is required for sewing the simplest case:

  • upholstery fabric;
  • material for the pattern;
  • several fasteners - "lightnings" or large buttons;
  • bar of soap or chalk;
  • special pins for furniture.

When choosing a fabric for sewing a cover, you should dwell on the option as a pleasant eye, and practical. It should be washed well, ideally be dirt-repellent. As a fabric for sewing a cover, you can choose a section of flock, tapestry or velor. The cost of these materials is low, and the variety of textures and colors is impressive. You can find an option for every taste.

In order to make a pattern, you need to take the material for its manufacture, cover the seat, back or one of the armrests, smoothly straighten it. Using chalk or soap, mark all folds of the part. After that, you need to gently sweep the fabric patterns. In a similar way, you need to carve out all the details of the future product. After the details are cut out, they need to be laid out on the fabric from which it is planned to sew the cover, and, leaving allowances for the seams, cut the product.

Next, the parts are connected together by strong seams manually or using a sewing machine. Places where it is planned to sew fasteners should be left unstitched. If you want the product to be fastened with buttons, sew them, and cut the corresponding number of loops from the opposite side. If the cover is fastened with one or more "zippers", sew them.

Zippers need to be sewn in such a way that they do not interfere with sitting on the corner.

You can cut the cover without fasteners, then it will be stretched with one whole-cut (or all-stitched) piece and also removed. The pattern of such a product is similar to the pattern of covers for chairs, it will also not be difficult to do it yourself. If your kitchenette has a fancy back shape - it is convex or concave, then making a cover will not be so simple. Before starting sewing, it will be necessary to cover this part, creating an absolutely flat surface, and only then proceed with sewing.

So that the cover does not “fidget” in the seat, it must be fixed. This is done using ties (like bows that fix similar items on chairs) or using a separately sewn strip of fabric that is fixed to furniture pins or Velcro. The strip should be a length equal to the circumference of the corner (back) in the upper edge.

And if the sofa in the kitchen is angular?

In this case, the situation with independent sewing is somewhat complicated, however, it does not become impossible. It is important to take into account that before the cut of the product begins, the material from which it is planned to sew must be washed, dried and ironed. This will help avoid possible shrinkage of the cover in the future. The corner cover is not created all at once, but in parts. If the corner is with an attached section, then there will be 5 parts:

  • main;
  • attached;
  • 2 - on each of the armrests;
  • back.

If the corner section is plug-in or solid, then the parts of the cover are sewn separately on the corner section, turned inside out.

The better it is possible to hide the seams between the parts, the more successfully the product will be sewn. The location of the seams falls on the seat and back, so you can hide them in the pleats of pleating, if you know how to work with it. If not, you can choose a fabric with a print so that the seams are minimally visible on it. The presence of the facial suture can be made invisible using a fit, taking into account the fabric tightening. If the fabric is coarse, dense, then each seam should be fitted on the cover.

Knitwear

Do not confine yourself to just a fabric for the manufacture of covers for the kitchen corner. If you knit well, you can use a hook or knitting needles to create interesting and non-banal products. Knitwear fills the house with cosiness, while each of them turns out to be individual. Therefore, if you do not belong to the category of people who consider "samovyaz" something unworthy and unpretentious, you can safely proceed to manufacture.

Of course, you need to consider what style your kitchen is decorated in. Knitted covers will not fit into the hi-tech or modern style, but country or Provence will decorate perfectly.

It is not necessary to completely tie the entire corner, you can knit a wrap on the seat and / or back, as well as arrange sofa cushions.

The most convenient option

For those who know how to sew, you can advise making such a high-quality thing as a euro cover. Its difference from the rest of the covers, primarily in the fabric from which it is sewn.It is rubberized through and through, so the product from it does not need to be specially seated on the corner, it already fits it perfectly. Euro covers are not subject to the formation of folds, creases. It does not matter either the shape of the back or the configuration of the armrests, any design of the euro cover will fit as you need. The fabric for this type of covers can be of several types.

  • Jacquard - its composition includes cotton, elastane and polyester. Thanks to the thin elastic band woven into the fibers of the material, the cover can stretch to the size you need. On the surface, the formation of puffs is excluded, including from cat or dog claws.
  • Shinilovaya - based on acrylic and elastane. Products made of vinyl are very light, the elastic is located on the inside. Shinil looks elegant, has a plush texture and will decorate any interior.
  • Pleating - texture "corrugation", a little springy. Pleated covers do not suffer from the effects of animal claws.
  • Microfiber covers - the most light and weightless. Microfiber is a fabric that stretches better than anyone else. Not only covers can be sewn from it; you can simply upholstery furniture with it.
  • Fantasy design in the form of folds it will decorate any classic interior, as well as the Provence style.
  • Sewing a cover will be an elegant solution. made of jersey, smooth and pleasant to the touch.
