For a modern woman, it is important not only to look good, but also to change in a timely manner, because the image, even a very suitable one, should not be boring to others. One of the simplest ways to radically change outwardly is to manipulate a haircut, but the modern chemical industry no longer limits itself to just changing the length, allowing any experimentation with the color of curls. At the same time, caution should be observed with “chemistry”, it must be of high quality, therefore you should not trust little-known firms. Wella products are an example of reliability and quality.

About the manufacturer

In the world of cosmetics and perfumes there are not many brands that can compete with Wella at least in something, whether it is popularity, fame or sales. The fact is that the company traces its history back to 1880, that is, its specialists have been searching for the ideal formulas of beauty and attractiveness for almost a century and a half.

Given that this manufacturer has German roots, it can be argued that great efforts and efforts were made to create ideal recipes, which is evident even from the brand’s longevity.

True, it did not begin at all with hair dyes: although the hairdresser also founded the company, at first he was engaged in the production of wigs. As is often the case with young companies, a breakthrough provides them with some kind of special discovery - in this case, these were wigs that allow the scalp to breathe. At first, the brand was not even called the current name, which it acquired only in 1924, but until that moment it managed to spin up quite well and grow into “muscles”. With the change of name, it came to understand that wigs were gradually losing popularity - then the company switched to the production of curlers and related equipment, which quickly became popular in beauty salons.

After the Second World War, it turned out that the main Wella facilities remained on the territory of East Germany, where they had just introduced communism, because any enterprises were nationalized. This could end the brand’s story, but the owners had the means to continue the business by moving to the western part of the country.

An indicator of how successful things have gone is that ten years later stars of the level of Elizabeth Taylor starred in the brand’s advertising. Since 1950, the Koleston line of tinting hair colors has been launched, which is now successful.

Today, the Wella brand boasts impressive worldwide recognition, because its products are sold in 150 countries - that is, almost everywhere.

Recently, the famous brand is part of even larger transnational corporations. So, in 2003, the controlling stake was bought by the giant Procter & Gamble, which does not need special ideas. In 2015, the brand’s identity changes again and it becomes part of Coty, a not-so-promoted corporation, which, incidentally, also owns Unilever.

Advantages and disadvantages

In addition to the brand in question, there are other companies that produce hair dyes, which indicates certain disadvantages of Wella, although the latter is rightly considered the leader, and this is a hint of pluses. In experiments with their own appearance, it is important to correctly evaluate all the pros and cons in advance, so we’ll try to figure out what is good and what is bad about the company's products. Let's start with the good:

  • Wella paints are very high quality, they suggest a professional result even when painting at home and even without the slightest experience in dyeing hair;
  • all shades are highly saturated, while, unlike cheap analogs, the color lasts a long time, and “accidentally” washing it off simply does not work;
  • hair dyes are often criticized for allegedly spoiling curls, but Wella products have the opposite effect, because it contains special lipids that provide hair nutrition, making them smooth and healthy;
  • in the packaging of the Koleston series, in addition to the paint itself, you can also find special color enhancers that allow you to restore the brightness of the original tone 15 and 30 days after the initial staining, so you can save your favorite look longer;
  • the German manufacturer offers consumers the choice of a wide range of shades, thanks to which you can either just change the hair color to another from the list familiar to society, or radically stand out with an absolutely atypical color;
  • ammonia-free paint carefully treats hair in any condition and provides uniform dyeing, so the brand’s products are relevant not only for simple color changes, but also for painting gray hair - no one will ever guess that the color may be unnatural;
  • many women go to a professional to dye their hair to be sure of the result, but Wella provides each package with the most detailed instructions, thanks to which you yourself will become a real professional, without leaving home;
  • the company's products are available in the form of cream paint, because it is convenient to apply to hair without fear of staining clothing or facial skin.

    The disadvantages of using branded products are also available, although they are much smaller.The first thing that scares away some potential buyers is a rather high cost, but the firm's pricing policy can be understood: it spends a lot of money on research and the purchase of the highest quality raw materials for the production of paints. Another problem is that with all the abundance of the range, far from every cosmetic department, especially in small towns, can offer a good assortment of Wella paints.

    However, the last problem is just solved quite easily: you can buy the right product today via the Internet with delivery anywhere in the world.

    Professional Tools

    One of the strengths of Wella products, which made the brand famous, was the focus on professional products - one that even professional stylists would not have passed. Today, the company delivers its products as those that can be used by anyone at home, but certain premium lines that are massively used in expensive beauty salons have not gone away.

    Koleston

    This line is one of the most recognizable, because it was with her that the release of hair colors once began. Over time, the equipment of the line has repeatedly changed, and today a palette of natural and bright shades is considered optimal for two-color coloring. The paint contains exclusively natural components, therefore such a “chemistry” does not give a drying effect and leaves the hair soft and silky. Thanks to beeswax in the composition, the hair structure is restored, and the color, according to the creators, will last up to a month.

    "Color Touch"

    The peculiarity of this series is not only the abundance of various shades, but also the fact that each of them, in addition to the brightness and saturation of the tone, has a clearly noticeable brilliance. The balanced composition of such a paint is specially designed to not only mask the possible imperfections of the hair, but also to eliminate them, because the paint contains nutrients and moisturizers.

    The palette of this line is impressive - here 6 shades of colors are presented right away, however, Color Touch is not suitable for painting large volumes of gray hair - the penetration of pigments into the cuticles is not deep.

    But in general, dyed hair can withstand up to 20 washings of the head, without losing the characteristic three-dimensionality of color.

    "Illumina"

    The technology by which the paints of this line were created is worthy of the future - they contain special components that can highlight copper particles that were originally present in healthy hair. Due to this, enhanced hair shine is achieved - an increase in the indicator is expected to be at least one and a half times.

    At the same time, unlike the two series described above, it still contains a certain amount of harmful ammonia, but useful components generally neutralize its effect. The assortment of 20 shades is not so large, but stylists claim that it is suitable for working with damaged hair of any type, and even any amount of gray hair can be masked with such paint.

    "Professionals Perfect"

    Although Wella positions its paints as simple in home use, this line can be considered an exception - it is not even recommended to every master. The fact is that it is intended to lighten hair, because even small mistakes in the process of dyeing are unacceptable - you can spoil your hair.

    You can dye a hairstyle of a natural shade, or previously dyed in a different tone, the arsenal of products from the line is represented by both creams and powders and powders for clarification. Due to the width of the assortment, it is possible to obtain almost any blonde shade, however, before staining, samples should be made for individual intolerance to the components of the product.

    Paints for home use

    Theoretically, at home, you can use almost any paint from Wella, but there are also such series that are not intended for use in expensive beauty salons at all. As a rule, such tools are somewhat cheaper - the effect of their use may not be as impressive, but there are no potentially harmful components in their composition, and the process of changing the color is reduced to extremely simple manipulations.

    A striking example of such a line is the modern Wellaton, according to which most women usually judge all Wella products. Funds from this series are available both in the form of cream paint and in the form of mousse, the latter being considered more convenient, since such a product is completely ready for use and can only be applied to the hair.

    The tint palette includes tinting paints with ammonia and brightening options without too damaging effect.

    Any of the colors in the series is well suited for gray hair, giving a rejuvenating visual effect to women of any age.

    A significant part of the composition of such paints is represented by various reflective components, due to which the hair seems more shiny. Their introduction into the composition is due not only to the desire to add shine: reflecting ultraviolet rays, these ingredients allow the hair to remain soft and silky.

    A bonus for each Wellaton home-use package is reconstituting serum, whose use becomes relevant two and four weeks after the first staining. Actually, there is no paint in such an additive, but it activates the dye residues on the hair, makes them brighter and more stable, due to which re-coloring can be postponed to a later date. After processing with such a serum, the paint, which has already begun to be washed, acquires a second youth and again seems fresh.

    Color palette

    Wella products in general are characterized by a huge variety of tones and shades, but sometimes the choice is somewhat limited by the scope of a particular series, which you could choose for specific specific qualities. Moreover, the manufacturer himself for convenience divides large palettes into logical groups of colors, but each line may have such a classification.

    Common shades like popular shells, pearls, or dark chocolate are found in most series, but you may need to look for highly specific tones across all collections.

    The Koleston series has one of the richest palettes, therefore it is logical to consider the possible classification of available shades using its example.

    • Pure and natural shades - these are the colors with which nature could well endow your head from birth, but did not. Thanks to this paint, new acquaintances will not immediately guess that this color is not your real one, and this is already a huge plus for rejuvenation.
    • Natural shades of high saturation in general, they are very similar to the previous category, but they were specially made a little brighter than is usually the case in nature. With such a hairstyle, you will definitely attract attention, but you risk revealing your secret to others.
    • Underlined chestnut and black shades highlighted in a separate segment. The manufacturer himself describes them as a means to create a mysterious image, not devoid of style.
    • Bright red palette surely will appeal to those who are used to attracting attention and can not imagine their stay in society, if others do not show particular interest in his person. To create a bright and unique image, this is one of the best options.
    • Blond Series It surprises us with an unusually wide range of options - many people don’t even think how wide this concept can be. For example, light shades can be either warm or cold, with soft transitions or in a light haze, in pastel colors or bright.
    • Mix tones - A rather unusual move from the brand’s developers, which involves the introduction of a different tone in the main shade of the modulations. This decision once again emphasizes the depth of the main color, and also allows you to make the image truly unique.
    • "Special Mix" - A great option for modern people, for whom even those shades that even literally a couple of decades ago seemed outrageously defiant to everyone seemed too boring. In this line of shades, you can find absolutely any tones - even those that you would never have thought of dyeing yourself if you had not seen them firsthand.

    Recommendations for self-staining

    All packages of hair dyes from Wella are necessarily equipped with instructions for use, which must be observed in strict accordance with the described instructions. Although most drugs are considered hypoallergenic, in some people an allergy to a certain component is still possible, therefore it is worthwhile to conduct preliminary tests. To do this, it is not necessary to go to the doctor - it is enough to apply a small amount of the substance behind the ear and repeat the procedure twice after drying.

    If in two days there were no problems, then you can use the paint fully, and, on the contrary, itching and peeling are obvious stop signals.

    Otherwise, the rules for hair coloring are approximately the same for all colors (unless otherwise stated in the instructions).

    • It is desirable to dye dirty hair - so the risk of destruction of their structure will be lower. If you fully trust the manufacturer and consider the paint safe, then you can try applying it to a clean head - in this case, the shade will be more vivid.
    • It makes sense to protect clothes and skin of the hairless part from paint. To do this, they usually use polyethylene or any other oilcloth, and in the immediate vicinity of the edge of the scalp with a special wax or cream on a greasy base, a contour is drawn so that the skin does not stain. Please note that the "contour" should not touch the hair, otherwise they will not be colored too.
    • Mixed paint under the influence of air may lose its original properties, and then the final shade will be quite difficult to predict. To avoid this, be sure to mix all the ingredients strictly before applying to the hair.
    • While working with paint, gloves should be on hand constantly, otherwise your image will seem too strange to many.
    • Although hair can be dyed and unwashed, they must be combed carefully before the procedure. When all the strands are straightened and lying neatly, you can hope for uniform staining of their entire mass. If you do not comb them first, the surface inside the tangled balls will retain its natural color.
    • Compliance with the instructions is important in all respects, but the absolutely fundamental requirement for a normal result is compliance with the time specified in the instructions. It is unacceptable to determine the period for the eye if the health of the hair is important to you. Hurrying too much, you risk unevenly staining them, and in some places the natural color will be noticeable. Being safe and overexposing the dye, you risk excessively drying your hair, which will make it brittle and weak.

    Reviews

    If you have never used Wella paints before, the temptation before buying expensive products is to ask the opinions of other consumers who already have experience with such cosmetics. In many ways, this impulse is correct, just never judge a product by a single review - remember that each person has a subjective opinion, and it is better to base your own point of view on your own impressions, and not from the words of others.

    Since the Wella brand is well-developed, it is not difficult to find real reviews about it. It should be noted that the range of products of this brand is not without reason so extensive - paints are not duplicated anywhere, even if they seem very similar. For this reason, experienced craftsmen do not advise making a conclusion about a company by one coloring, even if this is your personal experience - maybe you just made the wrong choice for the first time.

    For example, some dyes of the company barely cope even with a small amount of gray hair, while others are so eagerly eaten that after using them, even the original hair color may change slightly. Accordingly, if you liked the experience of using the product and want to repeat it, choose not just paint of the same shade, but be sure to use the same series.

    A definite drawback of most brand inks is not only their high cost, but also a significant consumption of the substance for uniform and reliable, resistant staining. The manufacturer himself advises not to save the amount of the used product, otherwise the resulting shade may turn out to be uneven, Internet users also indicate that in relatively inexpensive samples the first signs of rinsing can appear after three shampoos.

    Each package is necessarily supplied with detailed instructions, and different series have different properties, and therefore the coloring technology may vary slightly. For this reason, it is unacceptable to use the instruction from the paint of another series, because the result, most likely, will not turn out as expected. In specialized forums, you can often find complaints that the shade does not match or the acquired color turned out to be short-lived, however, the reason for such a “marriage” is most often the wrong staining procedure.

    By the way, everything written in the instructions should be followed with maximum accuracy - for example, the specified time cannot be arbitrarily changed in any direction.

    Each series has its own advantages and disadvantages, but Wella products as a whole are also praised. Almost nobody leaves indifferent a rich palette of shades. Many also really like the manufacturer’s approach in terms of completing sets - in some series, not only the paint itself is supplied in the box, but also, for example, mixing containers, gloves and brushes. By the way, professional goods are usually not accompanied by such bonuses - it is assumed that a professional should have all of this reusable for regular reuse.

    It is also highly appreciated that Wella products can be selected for any hair. The predominant part of the paints does not contain ammonia, therefore it is considered gentle, but for some especially bright colors its presence is simply necessary. At the same time, all products of the brand include useful and nutritious components in their composition, so that the hair not only looks healthier, but in fact it is.
