Hair dye is one of the easiest and relatively inexpensive ways to change the image or at least visually get rid of gray hair. I always want to find the most profitable option so that it is both high-quality and cheap. But this is almost never found. Cheap paints can not only not give the desired effect, but also spoil the hair. The best option will always be to use professional hair dye, for example, paint from Selective.

Features

Selective hair dyes have been on the market for quite some time: the Italian brand Selective Professional appeared in 1982. Now the manufacturer has several lines, including ammonia-free, coloring composition and tinted conditioners.

Selective paints stand out against the background. In addition to pigments and dyes, it also includes caring components that can not only protect hair during coloring, but also make them more shiny, healthy and alive. Such components include: beeswax, cereal proteins, fruit fatty acids, a complex of vitamins and minerals. The manufacturer has both paints with ammonia, and without it.

Many years of experience of the Italian brand has allowed to develop a composition that provides uniform and deep dyeing along with deep hair care.

This solved the problem of hair damage during dyeing, which used to be quite acute. Now, Selective Professional products give you the opportunity to experiment with the image without sacrificing curls.

Advantages and disadvantages

Professional cosmetics will always take care of hair better than an inexpensive product from the mass market - this can also be attributed to Selective products.Their composition provides protection to the hair and care during the coloring process.

The coloring composition is distinguished by a pleasant, not suffocating aroma, which not all hair coloring products can boast of. This facilitates the use of paint, does not cause discomfort and does not irritate the mucous membrane and eyes.

A sufficiently dense texture prevents the paint from spreading over the skin when stained. At the same time, it is easily applied with a brush and distributed along the entire length of the curls.

Despite the fact that Selective Professional tools are professional, there are no complicated manipulations that need to be carried out with them to color the curls.

Selective products do not dry hair during dyeing and do not injure them. Due to its composition, the coloring composition when it enters the hair further moisturizes and softens it.

The abundance of shades is also an advantage of the Selective Professional line. If for some reason the desired shade was not found, the paints mix well with each other to create unique shades. The manufacturer claims that the composition of the coloring composition has been worked out so carefully that in the end there will be no color surprises when mixing tones and when dyeing in one tone. When using one tone, the result will be the color declared on the package, adjusted for the color of the base on which the paint was applied.

Among the shortcomings, users highlight the lack of declared color fastness. On average, they note that it lasts for three weeks, after which it is noticeably washed. However, the durability of the tone depends not only on the coloring composition, but also on the quality and condition of the hair on which it is applied. Not all curls hold pigment well enough and can lose it almost completely in a fairly short period.

The price is also a drawback for some, as it is higher than the price for packing paint in a regular store. Also, Italian paint cannot be purchased in the mass market, but only in those that sell professional cosmetics. Also to the Selective paint you need to buy separately an oxidizing agent, which can cause difficulties.

At the same time, Selective paints have a volume greater than that of conventional paints. Therefore, one package of paint can be enough for more stains. So, for short hair, one tube is enough for two to three stains.

Instructions for use

The process of using Selective dye has its own characteristics, but, in general, is not much different from standard hair dyeing. For dyeing at home, you will need a container for mixing paint, a brush, gloves, a peignoir or any other cape to protect clothes from paint, a towel.

Before applying paint, wash your hair. Previously, paint was applied to oily hair in order to protect the scalp from the coloring composition. Now, paints have a much more gentle composition, so they need to be applied to clean hair so that the paint easily penetrates the hairs and fills them with pigment.

For staining, you need to choose an oxidizing agent with the desired percentage based on the purpose of staining:

  • coloring "tone on tone", in a darker tone or clarification to 1 tone - an oxidizing agent of 3%;
  • there is gray hair, dyeing in a darker tone or lightening for 1-2 tones - an oxidizing agent of 6%;
  • there is gray hair or lightening for 2-3 tones - an oxidizing agent of 9%;
  • lightening by 4–5 tones - 12%.

To protect the skin of the hands during the staining process, you need to use protective gloves, and the clothes of the person who will be painted should be covered with a cloak or hairdresser's peignoir.

Paint and oxidizing agent are mixed in a proportion of one to one until uniform.

To simplify the dyeing procedure, the total mass of hair is best divided into zones and treated with the composition in turn. The mixture is applied to dry combed hair in locks, from roots to ends.

If there is a lot of gray hair on the parietal zones, it is better to start dyeing with them.

The exposure time of the coloring composition on the curls is 30 minutes. If this is a re-staining, the roots are stained first. The composition on them is aged 20 minutes. After that, the paint stretches along its entire length and is kept for another 10 minutes.

After the time does not need to rush to rinse the composition with curls. To tone penetrate the hair better, first it is useful to slightly moisten the hair along the entire length, foaming the coloring composition for several minutes. To remove paint from the scalp, massage it well with your fingers in the places where the paint got on it.

Rinse off the paint without using shampoo. This will provide greater tone resistance. The manufacturer recommends the use of plenty of running warm water. Rinse your hair until the water becomes clear. After dyeing, you can use balm or conditioner to moisturize and soften hair.

Reviews

User reviews are not unanimous. Basically, they evaluate the paint positively, but negative reviews also occur.

Most of the reviews praise the depth and color saturation after staining. This is exactly what is expected of her, and most users are satisfied with the result.

However, the durability and saturation of the pigment sometimes does not play into the hands. Some complain that Selective paints are very strong on the skin. This is especially true for dark shades. Often after staining, it is very difficult to wash off the paint from the skin. And if along the edge line of hair growth this can still be somehow solved using a layer of oily cream applied to the skin before dyeing, then the skin along the parting can remain dyed for some time.

Also, many users praise the dye for a healthy appearance of hair after dyeing. Curls after the procedure are not confused and look well-groomed.

In some reviews, users complain about the durability of the paint for no more than three weeks. This is below the manufacturer's stated resistance and below the performance of some other hair dyes.

There are reviews in which users call the composition of the paint poor, since it is almost completely synthetic and contains few natural components.

There are also cases of individual intolerance to the components of the paint, when it causes allergic reactions: redness, itching, peeling of the skin. Therefore, experts advise to use a test on a small area of the skin before use. Also, some users noted that in the absence of obvious allergic reactions, the paint still nibbled the scalp when stained, although the result was good in the end.

The floral aroma, which is claimed to be an advantage of paint, is not satisfactory for some users, and they complain about its nuisance in their reviews of paint.

Colorevo not all users could paint over the gray hair, although the manufacturer claims that it should. Another part of the reviews states that Colorevo holds even better on gray hair than on healthy.

Next, you will find a master class on hair coloring with a product of the Selective brand.
