In various ratings of natural products, Weleda cosmetics rightfully occupies one of the first places. Her first recipes were created almost 100 years ago, but today the company's products are in demand due to their high efficiency.
A brief history of the brand
The history of the company began in the 20s of the last century in Germany. Its founders are the philosopher and teacher Rudolf Steiner, Dr. Itu Wegman and the chemist Oscar Schmidel. In 1921, in Switzerland, they opened a clinic where patients were treated according to anthroposophical principles, that is, by activating the body's own forces. For the production of medicines and natural cosmetics aimed at self-healing the body, a German company was created, now known as Weleda. Then the basic principles were formulated, which the manufacturer adheres to so far:
- the main role of both medicine and cosmetology is to stimulate the body's own forces;
- the use of only natural plant materials, all components of which interact in the best way with each other;
- compliance with strict quality standards at all stages of production - from growing raw materials to precise control over the storage of products.
At the same time, the Weleda logo was invented, which depicts a stylized symbol of medicine and the first but still popular cosmetics were created around the world: oil and firming hair tonic, delicate facial oil and others. In 1924, international branches began to open: first in France, then in the UK, the Netherlands, Austria, and the USA.
In the postwar period, the range of cosmetic products expanded significantly, and a children's line based on calendula appeared.New branches and production facilities were opened. Together with other manufacturers of organic cosmetics, Weleda has defined clear rules governing the use of the term “natural cosmetics”. The European quality standard NaTrue was developed, issued to cosmetic companies that produce truly natural cosmetics. Today, Weleda is the world's largest manufacturer of high-quality organic cosmetics and effective medicines created according to the principles of anthroposophic medicine.taking into account the features of the interaction of natural components with the human body.
Quality Above All
Weleda starts quality care right from the start - with raw materials. The company uses about 200 species of plants in the production of its products.. Weleda purchases only part of them from reliable and proven partners over the years - the company supports more than fifty suppliers of raw materials in different countries of the world. Most of it is grown on the lands of the company.
Own gardens where valuable medicinal plants are grown are an important component of Weleda's philosophy. The first of them appeared in Germany in 1921, and it still remains the largest (reaches 23 hectares) - it is the largest European economy that works in compliance with environmental principles. In total, the company has 8 gardens: in addition to German, there are also in the UK, Argentina, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Brazil and New Zealand. Plant cultivation here is carried out using the biodynamic method, that is, with the complete rejection of chemicals (fertilizers, insecticides, etc.) and in absolute agreement with the laws and rhythms of nature.
To maximize the natural strength of plants, they are quickly collected and processed. At the same time, the company tries to use electricity and various emissions as little as possible - all this destroys valuable substances. To obtain this or that ingredient (and all Weleda uses more than 1000 natural ingredients), its own methods are used to maximize its useful properties. For example, to obtain the essential oils, the distillation method is used, and the extracts are obtained by prolonged infusion.
Weleda recipes are developed in a science lab, they include exclusively natural plant components. The recipe is always very strictly observed; only organic essential oils are used as flavorings and preservatives. No animal tests are carried out - this is not permitted by the professional ethics of the company's cosmetologists. Even in packaging matters, Weleda is true to itself - in the era of plastic, many products are still packaged in glass bottles that can be reused or recycled.
For almost 100 years, Weleda has been present in the cosmetic market. Over the years, it has gained recognition both among ordinary consumers and among professionals in the cosmetics industry. The reviews of cosmetologists testify to the high quality of the company's products. They note a completely natural composition, an excellent selection of components - not only very effective separately, but also perfectly complementing each other as part of any Weleda product.
Company bestsellers
All-natural plant components, harmoniously combined in Weleda cosmetic products, have been working wonders for almost 100 years. After all, the company still produces funds whose recipes were created back in 1921. And they are still effective and enjoy well-deserved popularity among consumers of different countries - from ordinary people to recognized stars of beauty and style. So, Skin Food, one of the most successful creams of the company, which has not been discontinued for more than 90 years, is loved by Julia Roberts and Winona Ryder, Victoria Beckham and Rihanna, as well as many other celebrities.
The secret to the popularity of the product is in-kind (sunflower and almond oils, beeswax, lanolin, extracts of rosemary, violets, calendula, chamomile, etc.) and proven effectiveness over decades. According to its name, the cream really protects, nourishes and softens the skin, especially dry skin. Use it to care for the whole body, especially for the driest areas (hands, elbows, feet). Today, the company produces 33 different face products. - both developed 100 years ago, and new products. They are designed for different skin ages and different needs, among them there are lines based on almond oil and iris extract, rose seed oil and pomegranate seeds.
They have one thing in common - natural high-quality components and excellent recipes, which combine these components in the best way.

It perfectly nourishes hair follicles and heals the scalp, eliminating dandruff. The tonic recipe was developed by the founder of the company - Rudolf Steiner. Now Weleda's product portfolio includes hundreds of cosmetics. All cosmetics of the company are completely organic, do not contain any artificial componentsincluding silicones, synthetic dyes, fats, flavors, preservatives and other substances harmful to humans and nature.
Means for expectant mothers and babies
Caring for beauty and health, Weleda did not ignore those who need it, perhaps most of all - women who are expecting a baby. The company has developed 3 unique products rich in vitamin E and indispensable for pregnant women:
- anti-stretch oil removes existing striae and prevents the appearance of new ones, it can be used from the very beginning of pregnancy, as well as after childbirth, without fear of harming the baby (consisting of almond oil and wheat seedlings);
- oil for intimate areas - used to prevent injuries in the perineum (massage with it increases elasticity and reduces the frequency of tears);
- oil for breast skin care during breastfeeding - prepares breasts for lactation, cares for delicate skin, stimulates the lactation process, reduces milk stagnation.
These products with a natural composition greatly facilitate the care of women in the happiest and most difficult period of life. Another Weleda line helps moms raise healthy babies. It is based on calendula extract and includes products for bathing newborns (gels, shampoos, milk), oils and various body creams, products for protecting the skin from diaper rash, cream for protecting delicate baby skin in the cold season, etc.
In the Weleda range of children there are also such irreplaceable products for babies as tummy massage oil for colic and a gel that facilitates the eruption of the first teeth.
For almost a century, Weleda has been an example of ideal production: the right ideas give rise to the right approach to the organization of production and the right products, characterized by excellent natural composition and excellent quality, proven over the years.
Since 1921, the brand has been following its goal - to preserve people's health and restore it if necessary.
