If you want to get not just a beautiful domestic animal, but a loyal friend, then you should pay attention to Thai cats. These are affectionate and at the same time behaving with dignity animals that won the hearts of many owners of cats. Graceful creatures from afar attract attention due to their habits and expressive blue eyes. In this article, we will tell the history of the origin of these cats and list their main differences from representatives of other breeds.

Origin history

As the name suggests, the history of the breed began in Thailand. It is derived from the old Siamese breed and has a special color, shape of the head and bends of the body. Like their relatives, cats lived in Buddhist temples and palaces. These purrs were so expensive that ordinary people could not afford. It was believed that after the death of the owner, they escorted his soul to the kingdom of the dead.

They were invited to the funeral processions of distinguished persons, and then they were taken to the temple, where Thai cats lived in elegant conditions: they ate from gold dishes and slept on luxurious expensive pillows. All so that animals connected with the higher world can help the owner gain God's grace.

The ancestors of Thais, old Siamese cats have been known to man since at least the XIV century. They can be seen captured in miniatures of the collection "The book of poems about cats", a rarity of the National Library of Bangkok. The beauties were called in her only shining diamonds.These animals could not be taken from Thailand, but in the 19th century they were brought to European countries - two kittens were presented to the British general. After leaving the homeland, the Old Siamese breed began to undergo selection, and the Thai and Siamese breeds received a separate status.

Elegant blue-eyed Thai people immediately conquered the English nobility; even Queen Victoria, who had settled the beauties in her possessions, could not resist their charms. The Thai breed was officially approved only in 1990, and a year later its standard appeared. In our country, taekas are very fond of, they are bred in nurseries, where everyone can buy a kitten with a pedigree and documents.

Description

The structure of the cat looks harmonious. According to the characteristic of the standard, Thais have average dimensions, are not too high at the withers, compact, have well-developed muscles. The purr weight ranges from 4 to 6 kg, the cats look smaller than males and have a more elegant body.

The head has the shape of an apple or, as it is also called, a drop, neatly rounded at the end, has no angular or oblate outlines. The length of the muzzle is medium, the chin looks quite powerful, but not too large, the males have prominent cheeks. The ears, like the nose, are medium in size, widely spaced. If you draw lines from their ends to the tip of the nose, you should get a right triangle. The eyes have a more rounded lower part, painted in various shades from blue to blue.

The neck is shorter in males than in females, the trunk is compact and well-developed pectoral muscles. The paws are also well developed, the tail gradually tapering to the tip. Fine wool has an average amount of undercoat.

Character Features

The character traits of these purrs are in their curiosity and obedience, which their owners really like. The muzzle almost always has an expression, as if the cat is trying to delve into what is happening, which has a contact. She likes to participate in any household activities, but if you ask her not to interfere, she will accept this wish.

If the animal is closed indoors alone, it will meow plaintively. In the case when the cat herself wants to be alone, she can go into an empty room and be there alone with her thoughts. When a kitten just crossed the threshold of your house, then his need for communication is extremely high. Leaving him alone at the time of meeting a new house in a confined space is strongly discouraged, otherwise it will be difficult for him to trust his new owners.

These clever women quickly understand how to open and close doors, looking at a person they can begin to put food in their mouths. Natural observation allows her to quickly find the owner in the apartment, as she remembers where he is most often located at this time.

A non-conflict, playful secret quickly finds contact with all family members, including children. In rare exceptions, too emotional purrs are jealous of their beloved master or mistress, and for this reason they do not like a child. Also, these proud creatures can take offense at children if they allow themselves to hurt them in games. You need to explain to your children that the cat must be handled carefully, and demonstrate this by example. Usually, Thai has nothing against dogs, so don’t worry if you already have a four-legged friend.

How many years live?

Thais belong to cats that live a long life - on average, its duration is 17 years. Of course, the natural longevity of this breed should be supported by comfortable living conditions and good nutrition. To prevent these active minxes from being injured during the games that they so love to give in to, you need to follow some safety rules:

  • tighten shelves and other heavy elements of the interior so that they do not fall on your purr;
  • put anti-cat nets on the windows;
  • keep away from curious darling cutting objects, needles, fragile dishes, as well as threads in which it can get tangled;
  • hide from the cat what it can swallow: bags, toxic detergents, medicines and dangerous plants such as ivy;
  • Walking taikas is recommended on a leash.

Types of color

Most often, Thai cats have a coloring of force points. It is characterized by a slightly darkened body and black marks on the mask, the tips of the legs and tail. But there are other colors that are considered more rare, but have no less beauty:

  • blue point - not only the marks characteristic of the breed are painted in gray, but also the nose, and also the pads;
  • checkpoint - on a white background are a chocolate mask, the tips of paws and tail;
  • laylak point - combines white and delicate lilac shades, cats have almost pink nose and pads;
  • red point - suggests a pale cream body color and red marks;
  • cream point - the white body is decorated with cream marks;
  • tortie - tortoise color;
  • tabby - color with a pattern.

Do not be surprised to see a completely white Thai kitten. His coat will begin to change color over time, from the nose and cheeks. He will get the final color only in a year or even later. You can judge the coloring of the baby by the color of the parents.

Conditions of detention

Taekas cannot be called picky; they easily adapt to new conditions. But, going to get a kitten of this breed, get in advance everything you need for his comfortable life. These beautiful cats practically do not need to comb out the hair, as they have not very fluffy, and this breed is not long-haired. It is enough to walk through their fur coat weekly with a wet hand. They do not need to be specially washed in the bath.

Typically, these neat themselves do a great job pointing the marathon. They may need water procedures if they get seriously dirty during a walk or at home, during active games.

Thai cats, like everyone else, love to sharpen their claws. To do this, they need a claw point, otherwise furniture and other interior items that your pet considers suitable for sanding may suffer. Tall claws with pillars suit them well, as cats like to climb up. At the same time, they also manage to “make a pedicure”, since the claws of the hind legs also need periodic grinding.

Teeth and ears need no more care than other cats. Typically, the latter can be kept in a healthy state by feeding animals with dry food. For the prevention of parasites, standard feline preparations are given.

Barely buying a kitten, many owners are faced with the problem of accustoming to the tray. By 3 weeks old, Thai kittens usually know a place for a toilet. Since they are very smart, if desired, they can easily be taught to go to the toilet. If the baby did not have time to learn the rules of hygiene at home from a cat-mom or owner, then you will have to cope with the role of a teacher. For the process to succeed, follow the recommendations below:

  • show the baby the tray with the filler, put in it so that he sniffs everything and gets acquainted with the place of the toilet;
  • if you saw that the kitten is already doing its work in the wrong place, moisten a rag or piece of paper with urine and put it in the tray, and then put the kitten there;
  • do not dunk his face in a puddle, it can offend the kitten and discourage him from any desire to master the toilet.

In most cases, kittens fall into a new family already trained in the wisdom of using the toilet. You just have to ask the breeders what kind of toilet filler they used, and buy the same. In the early days, carefully make sure that the baby does not forget his skill in the new house, and, if possible, watch over it.

What to feed?

A Thai cat's balanced diet from childhood will become a guarantee for her health during the period of maturation, which means she will be able to bring more kittens with excellent health. This statement is true for both cats and kitties. As soon as the baby appears in your house, you need to immediately properly organize his food. Make sure that the ratio of certain substances in the diet of the cat is correct. The menu should meet the following requirements.

  1. Rationality. Determine your pet's calorie and nutritional needs. Based on this, calculate the amount of servings, as both a lack and an excess of food will adversely affect the health of the pet.
  2. Balance. Food for the cat should be varied and include all the necessary components: vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc.
  3. Quality. Food must comply with the safety requirements for products.

For these cats the same recommendations apply as for other breeds. If you are a fan of natural nutrition, then as a source of protein, foods such as lean meats are ideal, ideally beef, rabbit and poultry, cottage cheese, yolks, eggs. Boiled pulp of pork, fish without bones is allowed. It is better to give Thais exactly river fish, and if there is a lot of sea fish in his diet, then his fur coat may become darker. The same goes for seafood.

It's all about iodine, which is rich in the gifts of the ocean. Do not arrange a carnival of tastes for your purr, according to veterinarians, the usual food for a cat is better absorbed by its digestive system. Sometimes it’s useful to add a teaspoon of vegetable oil to your cat’s dishes. It will be beneficial for digestion. A reasonable amount of butter will also benefit her only - the coat will become more shiny and healthy.

Useful, but not always desired by the cat products on its table will be non-coloring vegetables, as well as sprouted wheat. If your darling accepts this, then you can only be glad for her, because these products are very useful. Boiled-in-water cereals can be an equally good addition to the daily diet.

Prohibited foods such as fried, fatty, smoked foods, sweets - they may contain theobromine, a substance destructive for cats, and vegetables that can stain a cat's pile. For industrial feeds, it is best to use super-premium or holistic varieties. Among them there are products designed specifically for breed with a point color, as well as pure white animals.

In nature, a cat eats many times a day, depending on when it turns up prey. Of course, in the conditions of the house it is very problematic to provide the animal with 10 meals a day, so just make sure that there is always fresh food in its plate and water in the cup. The availability of fluid in the public domain is very important for cats, and especially for those who eat a lot of dry food.

Numerous studies suggest that with the constant use of this type of food, even the highest class of urinary tract diseases occur twice as often as in animals that do not eat it.

Health

Thai cats are prone to dental diseases. Therefore, ideally, in addition to a handful of dry food, they need more serious measures for prevention, namely preventive examinations by veterinarians. After all, if the cat begins to lose teeth, it can cause her a lot of problems. Being natives of a hot country, Thai people do not tolerate too low temperatures. If the apartment has a cool climate or drafts often walk, the pussy can suffer from frequent colds.

It is recommended that cats walk outside on a leash, so you can prevent your cat from eating dubious food or even not edible things. Veterinarians advise starting promenades only after the necessary vaccinations are given. However, they do not need to go for walks - if the animal does not show initiative, then it is not worth pulling it out into the fresh air through force.

If you do not expect kittens from your pet or pet, sterilize him. By doing this on time, about six months, you will prevent the instinct of procreation from becoming a cat, and it will never occur to her to arrange concerts. It is especially important to castrate cats, as boys who do not pass this procedure constantly label everything, which leads to an unpleasant smell in the house.

Growing up

Having taken a Thai cat kitten to their home, many are perplexed when to start raising it, because this tiny lump is not used to the new situation. In order for further training in the rules of behavior to be successful, it is worth starting with love. The kid will feel it, seeing how you carefully create comfortable conditions for him, prepare food, talk with him and stroke him. It is especially important to cheer up the cat when he does something correctly, for example, goes to the toilet where necessary.

As a rule, from the second week of life, kittens try to organize an opportunity for games, during which they will learn the world, develop their mind and physical skills. In contact with people, babies become sociable and open. By the age of one month, a small kitten can already eat food that is used by adult animals.

He also begins to drink water instead of milk. Then the baby will develop very quickly, and you can only educate him in a timely manner. And, of course, to enjoy this wonderful age, when he learns the world around him, plays all the time and gives all the inhabitants of the house pleasant emotions.

Breeding

Most owners buy Thai cats because they fall under their charm. However, if you want to breed these beauties for sale, then you should find out what the subtleties of reproduction of this breed are. For the first mating, one and a half years is considered the optimal age, at least a year. Puberty in animals can occur at 4 months, however, at this age, neither the male nor the female are ready to become parents.

Mating made between too young individuals can lead to health problems in both. In this case, cats have a high probability of complex births, and cats have early problems with conceiving offspring. Kids in such unions also do not win, they often have health problems, and some die right away.

It is important to arrange the first mating for the male in his house. This will give him self-confidence and will allow him to successfully cope with the task. Usually, they prepare animals shortly before a meeting - give preventive agents for worms, give them a “manicure” so that they do not scratch each other during mating games.

For successful mating, the cat is usually left with the cat for a period of 3 to 5 days. Keeping them together longer makes no sense. The most productive days for mating in a cat are 2 and 4 days. After the set time, pay attention to the behavior of the female. If she calmly admits the cat, then their meeting was a success.

It will become possible to understand whether pregnancy has occurred only after 3 weeks, or even a month. The appearance of signs of a new estrus suggests that conception did not occur. In this case, a second meeting with the cat is held, and if the first occurred on a reimbursable basis, then the next should be free of charge.

Popular nicknames

Choosing a name for a new family member is always nice and at the same time responsible. Many people believe that a name can determine fate, which means that you need to name the baby not just beautifully. The nickname should give him valuable qualities that you would like to convey to him.

Thailand has its own celebrities who are famous all over the world, for example, the golfer Tiger Woods.Some cat owners are inspired by geographical names taken from this country: Chang, Samun, Moon, Saluin, etc. Among the owners of any purebred cats, names are popular that in English indicate certain qualities, for example, Lucky, that is “Lucky”, or Dodger - “rogue”.

The beauty of the eye color of a Thai cat is emphasized by such names as Sky “sky” or Azur “light blue”.

There are many euphonic Thai words that can be used as names if the meaning matches. For example, Vanida is a “girl”, Bunsy is a “highly esteemed beauty”, Narong is a “winner”, Sombun is “perfection”, Somchayr is “courageous”. The main thing is that it is convenient to pronounce it in everyday life, you can come up with an abbreviated form of the nickname.

Usually owners of Asian cats tend to give them a name with oriental roots. In this case, taking a kitten just for yourself, you can especially not rack their brains on his nickname. If this is a successor of a certain kind and in the future he will participate in planned mating, then you will have to take the matter seriously. Moreover, the first letter of his name is usually given by the index of a particular litter, the owner of the cattery will announce it to you. In this case, the nickname should be combined with the name of this nursery, as it will become part of the name.

Similarities and differences with Siamese cat

As we have already noted, both Siamese and Thais descended from an old Siamese cat. They have a lively temperament, playful, like to "poke their nose" in all the affairs of the owners. They have an external resemblance - a light coat with dark marks, blue eyes. However, if you look closely at the pictures of these two breeds, then the differences will become obvious, and you will no longer confuse them with each other. It's all about the different body structure of these cats.

Siamese cats are characterized by thinness, an elongated body, an elongated tail, their head resembles a wedge in shape, and their forehead and nose are almost a single feature, that is, as such, the nose on their face does not appear. The Thais have a quite distinguishable depression in the bridge of the nose. Their eyes are also more elongated than that of Thais. The Siamese auricles are so large that they seem disproportionate to the head, and for Thais they are medium in size, their tips are slightly rounded.

Owner reviews

Typically, owners of domestic Thai cats leave rave reviews in the forums about their pets - many people like that these cats are affectionate and get along well with the whole family, including dogs. True, in some cases, cats become so attached to one owner that in his absence they fall into a real depression - they eat poorly, meow loudly and show indifference to other people.

One woman told an amazing case when a cat was very offended by her for a long absence, did not eat for several days, and when the mistress returned, she defiantly refused to pet herself. True, after some time the purr softened and came to put up. Another owner told his story of a short separation from the Thai - when he met, the cat literally scolded him in his feline language for a long absence, he expressed his emotions so violently.

Another interesting quality of these whiskers is also associated with their attachment to man. They are so fond of accompanying their household people everywhere that they drive with pleasure in cars with them. Some of the pets are not even against seat heating, because these creatures are very heat-loving. If it’s cold outside, you can try dressing your cat in clothes from a pet store or making something like that with your own hands.

Since these oriental beauties love to give their warmth to all households, they are waiting for a response in return. If a person even involuntarily offends a secret, she can run up to a person and bite his leg. With all kindness, if this cat considers that she was betrayed, she may be offended by the owner.

Fortunately, such quarrels usually end in reconciliation.In a word, you don’t have to get bored with these pets - they give you the maximum feel of what cat's love and other emotions that accompany it.

Thai cat is a wonderful companion for its owner. She is always ready to be there, even when traveling. Looking at the classes of the household, the cat always seeks to do its bit, or at least sit nearby and exchange glances with a person. Especially pleasing is the fact that these animals can live long enough. Their lively nature allows them to become the "soul of the company" in any family and give many pleasant moments to household members.
