The Siamese cat breed is non-standard in color. Dark legs, tail and muzzle with surprisingly blue eyes and black ears stand out against the light background of the body. In Thailand, beauties with royal posture were called "moon diamonds." Are cats of this breed really evil and vindictive, as they say about them - let's try to figure it out.
Description
The birthplace of Siamese cats was ancient Siam (modern Thailand), where they were considered sacred animals. This breed contained only royalty, whose children could not play with their peers. Siamese cats were their companions and playmates.
These animals were forbidden to be taken out of the country under pain of death, therefore, they were not known in the world until the 19th century. In the 70s of the XIX century, the ruler of Siam gave a couple of animals to the English royal family.
Subsequently, they became the progenitors of the entire European population.
Already in 1872, the first representatives of this breed participated in exhibitions. A little later, in 1892, standards were drawn up for them that allowed a kink of the tip of the tail, a rounded head and slight squint. In 1902, the standards changed, the familiar features of the breed were now considered vices.
Siamese cats came to Russia in the early twentieth century. The ruler of Siam gave several kittens to Nicholas II. Animals of modern standards (with a wedge-shaped head) were brought into the USSR in the 80s of the last century.
Appearance
Today, the breed of Siamese cats has spread widely in our country, but it is often confused with the Thai population.Representatives of both groups have a characteristic color: a dark muzzle and limbs on a fair body, but at the same time they look completely different. To make the differences more understandable, first we’ll look at how the real Siamese look.
Outwardly, the cat looks elegant and graceful. She has a sophisticated wedge-shaped head with black pointed ears. Deep blue almond-shaped eyes look serious and meaningful. The torso seems graceful and fragile, but in fact it has strong muscles. The limbs are refined, the front legs are shorter than the hind legs. The tail is as thin as a whip. Weight is balanced, girls weigh 4-5 kg, boys - 5-6 kg.
On the cat's face there is a black mask, the same color on the legs and tail.
Kittens are born completely white. Black wool grows in them later, so in places where it should appear, a delicate pink peel is visible.
The coat of an adult Siamese cat is short, silky, has a different shade: almost white, beige, brown, golden, smoky.
In the UK, animals with 18 colors are allowed for exhibitions, in the United States - with only four.
Difference from Thai breed
Siamese from Thai breed is easy to distinguish, it only costs take a closer look:
- the Siamese have a wedge-shaped head with large ears, the Thais have a round head, ears of normal size;
- Thai eyes are rounded, and Siamese individuals are almond-shaped;
- Siamese limbs are long and thin, which cannot be said of Thais, who are generally mundane, far from grace;
- Thais have quite normal sizes with a short-haired tail, while Siamese have a thin and long tail.
Nature and behavior
Having studied many reviews of Siamese cats, you understand that people have an ambiguous, even diametrically opposite attitude towards them, that is, you will not find more conflicting reviews in the description of any other breed of animal. This is due to the complex (in the good sense of the word) character of Siamese cats. They are very smart, energetic, unpredictable. Animals can fully accept the way of life of people and repeat it, considering all members of the family to be big cats or to identify themselves with a person. You can talk with an animal and count on understanding. Each of them has an original, multifaceted, formed character, with its own habits and characteristics. Siamese is always interesting and fun, as with full members of the family. They are very devoted, they get used not to the house, like all cats, but to the owner, like dogs. The family in which the Siamese live is very important to them.
Reading reviews describing Siamese cats as jealous, angry, vengeful, wayward creatures, you notice that they were not written by the owners of the cats, but by the friends of the owners, guests of families with Siamese cats, or simply rumored. That is, people who watched him not from the inside, but from the outside. Guests in the family where the Siamese cat lives cannot feel the usual feline arrangement. They are alarmed by the meaningful serious look of animals. They are frightened by the cat, which hid, hid, and then, out of nowhere, jumped out and threw itself under its feet. Such a pet trick seems scary to them, but only the owners know that the cat just plays hide and seek. And it’s more interesting for her to do this with guests, because they still don’t know her secret places.
A Siamese cat should not be wound up by people with young children or those who are always busy. It’s unlikely that you can be alone and do your own business with such a pet.
A cat can be an ideal friend for growing up children, teenagers or those who can devote a lot of time to it. In families with small children, the focus is always on children, and the Siamese cat herself prefers to be this “center”. Teens enjoy playing equestrian games with the Siamese on equal terms, thereby developing them. The inventive mind of cats often helps them to emerge victorious in games.It will hide in such a way that you will not find it, and then suddenly jump out of the shelter, then it will grab the toy first and run away, offering to run after it. Likes to bounce to the owner's highly raised hand. But it is capable of deceiving, looking at the raised right hand and with all kinds, gaining acceleration, unexpectedly grabs the left one, which simply weighs along the body and is closer to it.
Siamese people living in a loving family, and not seeing other animals, completely repeat the way of life of people. They like to sleep not folded into a ball, but in the pose of the owner - the head on the pillow, the body covered with a blanket. If the family has lunch, a chair should be put for the cat. She will not go into the plate or beg for food, but she will tactfully sit with everyone. Coming from work or school, the animal must be given attention. Otherwise, it will walk on its heels, rumbling loudly and “telling” how it waited and was bored.
You can’t offend Siamese cats, they are smart, sensitive, receptive, for some time they can become isolated and mourn. Some believe that the cat has a vengeful habits, it is able to break the dishes, break the curtains to show its displeasure. Aggressive revenge of the animal in the form of night attacks on the owner is a myth. Siamese are very affectionate and loving animals, but they have their own opinion and their own character, and just want to be reckoned with.
Are cats evil?
The opinion of Siamese cats as evil and revengeful animals is very primitive, you need to understand the situation much more deeply. Any breed can be angry cats, it depends on two factors: the character obtained at birth and acquired due to improper upbringing. Siamese cats are born with an evil character no more often than representatives of any other breed. They need to be raised calmly and respectfully, because having a good intellect, unlike other cats, they understand that they offended them unjustly.
By the way, animals can be irritable during sexual instability or painful conditions. Castration helps, as well as the right treatment.
There is another reason why there is an erroneous opinion about the bad nature of the breed. A self-respecting breeder, taking care of his image, will not continue the population of evil animals. Unfortunately, in the 90s of the last century, rejected batches of Siamese cats came to our markets. Despite some difficulties in the characters of the foreign animals that arrived, cats with the mind and devotion of dogs were interesting to people, they were happy to keep them in families. Perhaps myths about the vengeance of animals developed precisely in that period. The owners of Siamese cats consider them smart, real feline "personalities", with their own opinion, which has to be reckoned with, but not at all evil and aggressive.
As already noted, such reviews are written about them by outside observers who are not directly related to the life of animals.
Advantages and disadvantages
Summing up, we can draw conclusions about the advantages and disadvantages of the Siamese breed. It is worth noting that the pros and cons related to these animals will depend on the perception of them by the person himself. For example, qualities such as activity, curiosity, excessive affection, one irritate, and the other touches.
