You can’t just buy a Scottish fold kitten and not care about its contents. Like every other pet, it needs affection, proper care, education and balanced food. Otherwise, a flexible cat with excellent health and smooth coat will not grow out of it.

Before purchase

Typically, Scottish fold kittens are separated from their mom cat at the age of 2-3 months, but the breeders are looking for the owner immediately after their birth, because:

  • pets are quite expensive;
  • the future owner will need time to prepare the house for the move of the kitten.

Daily necessities

For the Scottish kitten do not buy anything supernatural. He needs bowls for water and food, a scratching post, a toilet tray, toys and a bed.

Bowls for food and water

Ideally, the kitten should have three bowls: the first for water, the second for wet, and the third for dry food. In order not to create a heap of them in the kitchen, two shallow bowls made of metal or ceramic are dispensed with, provided that one of them (the one for the feed) is two-sectional. At the same time, a cup of water is kept at a distance from it.

Lounger

A secluded corner is equipped for the kitten to play alone, rest from everyone and everything. The main thing in it is a couch. What it will be depends on the taste of the owner. They either buy a separate house, and a claw-claw to it, or a claw-claw house made in the same design, or a rug (the old darned one is quite suitable).

Cat tray

There are several types of cat toilets. A suitable one is chosen, having studied the advantages and disadvantages of the model you like from the table below.

Tray view

Advantages

disadvantages

Plastic without mesh

Easy access, affordable price, easy filler replacement, compact size

Mesh tray

No filler, no source of contamination for the coat

Bad smell, wash after every visit

Toilet with sides

Easy cleaning, proper use, reliability

Larger than other models

Auto

No unpleasant odors, automatic disinfection without the participation of the owner, saving on filler

The high price, the cat’s possible fright from the seen process of cleaning the tray

Closed

Odor retention, no dirt and debris

High cost, misuse - for sleeping

The ideal option is a tray with sides, but the owner has the right to choose another model based on his own preferences, taste and budget.

Care Tips

Sometimes a Scottish fold kitten appears in the house before 2-3 months of age. If he is only a month old, heed the recommendations of the person from whom the pet is being bought. Often they are traditional, and the only thing there is a discrepancy is in nutrition (for four weeks of life, he develops stable eating habits).

Eye care

Almost from birth, kittens clean their eyes in order to quickly accustom them to hygiene. The procedure is carried out every 5-7 days. To do this, take a cotton pad in their hands, moisten it in water and carefully treat it with the corners of the eyes, the upper and lower parts of the eyeball.

As you grow older, the frequency of eye care changes: an adult cat brings cleanliness without the help of a host.

If the kitten has suppuration in the eye area, the procedure is performed more often. During the day, they process the eyes two to three times with plain water or a weak solution of chamomile. In a solution (in water) a cotton wool or soft tissue is moistened, and then it is applied to an inflamed area. If inflammation persists in a week, contact your veterinarian.

Claw cutting

From the first days, a kitten is taught to cut its claws. In cats of this breed, claws on the front legs are cut. A haircut is carried out once a month, cutting off the tip of the nail (no more than two millimeters) with manicure scissors or a cat nail clipper. Cutting off more, there is a great risk of damaging the blood vessel and greatly scaring the pet.

Hair care

Scottish fold themselves cope with hair care. Although they are clean cats, you must not let things go by their own accord. A special brush for wool with short and frequent teeth or a glove made of silicone is purchased at the pet store. Hair is combed once every two weeks to prevent its lumps from getting into the stomach.

If the pet molts, the hair is cleaned more often - one combing per week.

The main rule of care for the Scottish kitten: you can not bathe him without special need. Sometimes he gets dirty very much or picks up fleas while walking on the street. You can not bathe a kitten if he is not even 2 months old (it is better to protect him from pollution if possible). If swimming is indispensable, warm water is poured into the basin (optimum temperature is + 36 ° C). Wash your pet with the addition of a special shampoo.

After thorough washing, the coat is dried by blotting water with a towel to prevent colds and hypothermia.

Sometimes one bath is enough to scare the Scottish fold and greatly discourage her from swimming forever. She is afraid of the sound of water. To distract her from him, they put rubber toys in the water. To prevent water from getting into the ears, cover them with cotton wool. To prevent mucosal irritation, oil drops are instilled into the eyes.

You can not wash the kitten with the use of means for people. Otherwise, the condition of the coat worsens and the skin becomes inflamed.

Parenting

A young cat is not only looked after, but also raised. If you do not accustom her to the toilet and scratching post, then later she will dirtied everything and destroyed all the furniture in the house.

Restroom

Much depends on which filler is chosen for the cat's toilet. For quick getting used to it, do not pour sand into the tray. Use natural wood or pelletized aggregate. The first few weeks do not wash it often and thoroughly, so that the pet easily finds it by smell.

Scarlet Point

If from the first day in a new house you accustom a kitten to a scratching post, having matured, it will not scratch the furniture, tear off the clothes and wrap the wallpaper on the wall. To do this, they show a new object to an animal, attach a toy to it, attracting attention, or spray it on the soft upholstery of a clawhack with a fragrance with the smell of catnip.

Vaccinations

Scottish fold are vaccinated as scheduled. You cannot refuse vaccination even if your cat does not visit the street. Otherwise, there is a high risk of contracting a dangerous disease. Before going to the veterinarian, anthelmintics are mandatory. At the reception are a healthy kitten.

Power Features

Carefully think over the diet for the kitten. It must be balanced. It is fed with dry and wet food or natural food.

Experienced breeders feed Scottish fold with dry and wet premium or super premium feeds. They are balanced, contain minerals and vitamins. The food for kittens is chosen special, with the corresponding inscription on the package. Otherwise, normal development will be in jeopardy, and the daily norm will be more than necessary.

Rarely fed thoroughbred cats with ordinary food. Food "from the table" is not suitable. We'll have to cook one for the household, and another for the kitten. He cooked buckwheat, rice, oatmeal in milk, without adding butter. Give some ground beef with oatmeal and yolk. Sour milk products are gradually introduced as a substitute for milk. Kittens are fed boiled vegetables and boiled offal.

Fish is given no more than once a week, in boiled form. Do not include herring, sweets, smoked meats, sausages and corned beef in the diet.

Whether the Scottish fold cat will be kept correctly or not depends on its lifespan and nature.
