Three months is not the easiest age for a kitten. In most cases, it was at this time that the little pussies had to leave their habitable places and move to new owners. Many breeders prefer to give kittens at 12-13 weeks of life, when the babies can already be separate from their mother and move to a new place without unnecessary worries. However, it was at this time that the kittens needed special care and a reverent attitude.
Development features
A kitten at 3 months old is already a fully formed personality. It was at this time that he began to demonstrate his character and disposition. At this stage, re-educating a feline child will be very difficult. Three-month-old babies are already easy to navigate and can quickly figure out and remember where in the apartment there are feeders, drinking bowls and a tray, where you can sleep, and where to climb is not worth it.
At 3 months, the kitten can remember its name and respond to it. That is why at this stage, kittens are given or sold most often - they can already begin to live in new conditions and quickly adapt to them.
It is at 3 months in kittens that very period of “imprinting” is not yet completed, when the baby remembers the appearance and image of all creatures that become dear to him. For this reason, the new owners of the kitten can rely on the fact that their young pet will be strongly attached to them and will be considered “their own”.
At 3 months, a small cat or cat begins to grow actively. They can already be given solid food. At this stage, females and males gain more noticeable differences and look different. First of all, it refers to the size and weight of heterosexual animals. On average, kittens reach a weight of 1.5-2.3 kg at 3 months.Of course, much here depends on the particular breed from which the babies come from.
By human standards, 3-month-old kittens are children of two years. They may react differently to the new environment. Some kids very carefully study the new space, considering each step they take, while others will hide for several days behind a sofa or other furniture, moving away from stress. In such situations, the owners should understand that a small kitten needs some time to adapt.
How to care?
A 3-month-old kitten must be properly looked after. Fragile babies will need to create all conditions for a comfortable life and further growth / development.
It is necessary to equip a good sleeping place for the baby. In modern pet stores you can find a lot of different cribs for kittens. It can be simple rugs and beds or special charming houses in which the baby will be very comfortable.
It is advisable to equip a place for sleeping in the same way as it was equipped in the house of the kitten breeder.
Place a tray for the baby. If you purchased a kitten from a breeder, then most likely he will already know where to go to meet his natural needs. You will only need to show him in the new house the place where the tray will stand. To do this, immediately after eating the mustachioe should be taken there and placed in the tray for a while. Due to this, he will quickly get used to the new situation and will go to the toilet as needed.
Buy a good cat litter. It is advisable to use the same product used by the breeder. The familiar smell of filler will remind the kitten of its former habits and skills. He will immediately understand what exactly is the place to which you will accustom him.
Do not yell at the baby if he leaves a small puddle on the floor. This is not a big deal - just the kitten is not yet fully accustomed to a new environment for him. Just wipe this place in the house with a napkin, and then use it to walk along the tray so that the cat is guided by smells, looking for a place to cope with needs.
It is recommended to buy several types of bowls for small kittens. One of them will be used for dry food, the second - for liquid food and canned food, and the third - for clean and fresh water.
At 12-14 weeks, the kitten should expect a second comprehensive vaccination. The first occurs in 9 weeks. Before vaccinations, at 10-12 weeks, kittens are treated for helminths. You should not neglect these procedures, since there are many serious diseases that can affect a small kitten if it is not vaccinated.
We must not forget about toys, especially if the baby is hyperactive. For a 3-month-old kitten, you should buy soft and safe products: balls, fish, mice made of cloth. The main thing is that the toys do not have small details that the cat may accidentally choke on during games. And also the kitten needs to buy a scratching post so that it does not spoil the furniture in the house.
Keep track of the baby’s coat. Pick up a special shampoo that suits the kitten. You can bathe a cat no more often than 1 time in 3 months. It is necessary to comb a kitten, especially a long-haired one, daily.
You should examine the eyes of the kitten for purulent discharge. They should not be, and if they appeared, then you should contact your veterinarian. Plaque in the corners of cat's eyes should be wiped with a cotton swab. Inspect your baby’s ears at least once a week. They must be clean, odorless, plaque and black spots. You can clean the ears with cotton buds using a special solution.
Once a week, inspect the baby's claws. They must be trimmed with special scissors in a timely manner, so that it is more convenient for you and the kitten does not get injured.
Play more with the baby, stroke him, treat him kindly. Give him enough attention, and try not to leave home alone for long.
How and what to feed?
The menu for a 3-month-old kitten must be carefully prepared. It is necessary to immediately determine what exactly you plan to feed the cat - natural products or prepared industrial feeds.
As for natural products that can be eaten by kittens, experts advise starting from 3 months to bring such food to the kittens diet:
- boiled and finely chopped meat of low fat content (beef or chicken);
- high quality raw meat;
- kefir and fermented baked milk without additives, low-fat sour-milk products;
- fresh chopped vegetables - pumpkin, zucchini, cabbage;
- boiled and chopped or raw egg yolk;
- low-fat pitted marine fish;
- cereals in milk, water or broth;
- vegetable oil in small quantities to improve digestion.
A kitten should be given such natural products only if they are absolutely fresh and of high quality. With this nutrition, the baby will grow healthy and energetic.
You can’t salt, pepper, spice, fry, pickle, or smoke food for cats. Food from the table to kittens is also not suitable. Refuse chicken and fish bones - remove them. Do not give sweets.
Ready-made feeds can also be given to kittens, but it is better to choose premium or super-premium options, which do not contain preservatives of unknown origin, coloring components and flavor enhancers. Extra food in such foods should not be. If you decide to feed a 3-month-old kitten with such food, then some rules must be considered.
- Dry and wet food should not be mixed together. If a kitten eats such food, over time it will lead to serious health problems.
- It is better to stay on the feed of a certain brand and cancel them, if necessary.
The composition of the finished feed should be natural ingredients. Must be present meat. If the product is not saturated with proteins, then the benefits for a little fluffy will be too little. Choose only branded products of high quality. You can consult your veterinarian about which industrial feed is better to take, especially if you have brought a demanding kitten of a certain breed.
At the age of 3 months, the kitten should be fed in small portions about 5 times a day.
Parenting rules
Consider some basic rules for raising kittens in 3 months.
- Talk with the baby, choosing the right tone. If he had nonsense somewhere, his tone should be more serious and rude. The animal will not understand a single word, but by the intonation it will be clear that you are dissatisfied with something, and he did something wrong.
- Do not yell at the kitten. In response, get the appropriate attitude.
- Kittens cannot be beaten in any case, otherwise they will grow embittered and frightened.
- The kitten must follow the daily routine. Always show the animal when you are unhappy with something. Do it right away.
- Observe discipline with the kitten. If you give him a treat, holding it in your arms and sitting at the table, then you should not be surprised that the animal itself climbs onto the table.
- Do not let the baby carry food outside the bowl. Having noticed this, it is necessary to strictly say (do not scream) to the cat “You can’t!” and pick up the treat, put back in the bowl.
