The history of orientals is closely connected with the Siamese cat. They are her closest relatives, but have a number of distinctive features. Only American specialists became interested in an unusual breed. In this way, as a result of lengthy breeding, an oriental cat of various colors was bred. In Russia, unusual animals appeared in the late 80s of the last century.

As we have already said, oriental and Siamese breeds belong to the same group, however, they have a number of differences. Siamese black and white cat with blue eyes is known for its peculiar color. He has “chocolate” paws, tail, ears and a muzzle, and his body is light. The color of the Siamese is called "point" - finished. Oriental cats do not have such features, they can be attributed to one-color Siamese cats. In most cases, they are short-haired, but individuals with long hair are found.

The orientals are visible from afar. These are graceful, thoroughbred cats of "blue blood". Their characteristic features include the following.

1. Slender long legs with neat paws.
2. Sphenoid head, sharp cheekbones and rounded chin.
3. Elongated nose.
4. Wide rounded ears. Kittens resemble funny cheburashka.
5. Strong muscular body.
6. Graceful neck.
7. The expressive eyes are emerald green. There are individuals of a white color with eyes of a "heavenly" shade.
8. A thin tail that points to the tip.
9. Thick shiny coat without undercoat. Tight to the body.

Unlike their Siamese brothers, oriental cats are friendly and affectionate. They love small households very much and do not show aggression. Animals are attached to the owner and love to soak in his lap.

The colors of this breed are striking in their diversity. Today there are more than 40 options. Also, oriental cats are characterized by stripes and spots that differ from the main color of the coat. So, the most popular colors of cats are as follows.

• Ebony. Elegant “panther” of black color with green eyes. This is one of the most beautiful oriental colors that attracts breeders. The fact is that the cat is completely black, even the nose and paws.

• Havana. Cats of saturated brown color with traditional emerald eye color. The hair of pets has a shade of milk chocolate, and the pillows of paws and nose are pink. Such orientals are not inferior in popularity to their relatives in black.

• Cinnamon. Proud pets of a light brown color. The eyes of the animal are mysterious green, and the skin on the nose and paws has a reddish tint. Very gentle and pleasant color.

• Purple or lavender. A very original shade, it can be described as a combination of pink and gray. Purple orientals are amazingly beautiful cats with bright green eyes and a "lilac" nose.

• Faun. A rare beige color, which is very appreciated by breeders. The tip of the nose and paws of the animal is pink, and the eyes are light green in color.

• Red (or red). The hair of the animal has a plain color. The picture is missing. "Red" orientals fascinate with their "emerald" eyes and a graceful pink nose.

• Tortoiseshell. An interesting color, which involves scattered spots throughout the body of the animal. In most cases, such a "coloring" is inherent only to females. As a rule, pets with this color have spots of red or cream color.

• White (albino). The hair of the animal is completely snow-white and has no inclusions. The nose and pillows are light pink in color. In albino kittens up to a year, a small colored spot may appear on the head, which disappears with age. This color implies the presence of heterochromy in the animal: one eye is green, the other is blue. This feature attracts breeders.

• Cream. The gentle pastel color of the cat “pleases” the owner’s eye. The mirror of the paws and nose, according to tradition, are pink.

In a special group, it is worth highlighting the colors with a pattern (tabby). We denote the following groups.

• Marble. Very spectacular color, which emphasizes the grace and sophistication of an oriental cat. The hair of the animal has a rich pattern that resembles a butterfly (thin lines go from head to shoulders). The drawing looks no less beautiful on the body of the pet (parallel lines stretch along the back to the tail). On the sides there are voluminous spots framed by circles.

• Spotted. Orientals of this color are distinguished by the presence of a large number of oval spots. Even the strip on the back is broken into "circles".

• Brindle. Breeders of this animal love exoticism, as a miniature predator appears in their home. The color feature is a thin solid line that runs along the back. The rest of the body is covered with chaotic narrow lines on the sides.

• Ticked. This color is quite outstanding. The hair of the animal, at first glance, has a plain color.But in fact, each hair (along the entire length) is colored by alternating light and dark rings. This color looks amazing.

Also found are oriental cats of "brilliant" color. For example, tortoise (or lavender) tabby has a basic silver tone. Elements of the picture are distinguished by clear contrast, the eyes are emerald, and the nose is pink.
