Lambkin: breed description, feeding and care

Many breeders dream of a miniature and unpretentious pet with which you can play and calmly leave unattended for a couple of hours. Such an animal is a cat of the Lambkin breed. This is a smart and curly friend that looks like a tiny lamb. In addition, these cats adore their owners and faithfully serve them throughout their lives.

Lambkin is a fairly rare and young breed of dwarf cats. It was brought out by crossing manchkina and Selkirk-Rex. The breed is already registered with TICA (International Cat Association).

The characteristic features of the lambkin are as follows:

• dense body with short graceful limbs;
• wedge-shaped head with protruding ears;
• expressive blue eyes, individuals with emerald and orange eyes, which are in harmony with the color, are also found;
• curly hair with a thick undercoat;
• long, fluffy tail.

The raisins of the breed appear with age. For example, kittens are born with proportional paws and straight hair. Finally, curls are formed only by two years of the animal's life. Representatives of the breed can be short-haired and long-haired. The main feature of Lambkins is their constant "childhood".

Miniature “lambs” have wool of different colors. There are several color options.

1. Solid. The "fur coat" of the cat is plain, without interspersing.
2. Smoky or silver. The fur of the animal has a light shade base, and the ends of the hairs are dark.
3. Tortoiseshell. This color is characterized by the presence of three colors on the pet's hair. The tortoiseshell lambkin looks especially impressive.
4. Bicolor. In the color of cats there is a white color. Usually there are snow-white breasts, paws and stomach “lamb”.

All colors of the Lambkin breed are beautiful and original, which makes the pet even more unique and in demand among breeders.

Lambkins are charming pets with a complaisant disposition. They feel sympathy for all family members and try to please them in every way. The breed is characterized by increased curiosity and craving for outdoor games. Curly babies perfectly remember different teams and love to respond to a name. Respect the rules that are set in the apartment, and do not show aggression towards children.

The most important in the content of this breed is the care of the chic coat of the animal. For example, in order for the fur of cats of silver color not to lose an amazing shine, it must be washed using special shampoos, including dry ones. To prevent tangles, the animal’s hair is combed regularly (preferably every other day). For cutting lambkins a professional hand is required.

At home, shortening the fur of a miniature pet is quite problematic. In addition, the breeder of a rare breed should monitor the health of the pet. The fact is that cats are prone to diseases of the spine due to their short limbs. The back muscles simply can not cope with the load, and the spine bends, starting to put pressure on the lungs and heart. Another drawback of lambkins is congenital deformity of the chest. This defect will help determine the specialist.

Hygiene of the auricles and eyes is also important. If the kittens begin to “cry”, then the owner is better to stock up on special drops.

From the first days of the appearance of a curly kitten in the house, the breeder needs to get a claw. She will help the pet:

• grind claws in a natural way;
• relieve stress;
• leave a mark (for cats, this ritual is especially important, as it’s natural for them to “mark” territory).

Like other dwarf breeds, a lambkin needs proper nutrition, which determines the beauty of the coat (especially silver color) and the activity of the animal. Protein (fresh lean meat) should predominate in cat food. Also, “lambs” can be fed with rice and buckwheat cereals, fish products and boiled vegetables. Lambkins are suitable for premium and super premium dry feeds. Two meals a day are enough for an adult cat.
