Burmese cat is one of the most elegant breeds in the world. In the United States and Europe, such animals are quite popular, but with us this species is little known. Burmese are unusually graceful, have a delicate, velvety coat.
Origin
Mention of the Burmese breed of cats still exists in the ancient manuscripts of Thailand and Burma, dated to the XII century. The description of animals is found in an ancient poem exhibited at the Bangkok Museum, in the illustrations of an ancient book discovered in Siam, ancient temples also have their images on the walls. The breed got its name from the state of Burma, where it appeared. There, cats were worshiped as a sacred animal and compared to the gods. Each priest had a cat in the house and, depending on his relationship with her, judged the priest's proximity to the deities.
The inhabitants of ancient Burma believed that purrs attract good luck and wealth, accompany souls after death. Only noble people could make velvety creatures - cats were valued too expensive. Several individuals always lived in the palace of the rulers of the state, and took care of them as well as the heirs of the dynasty. In the XIX century, Joseph Thomson brought the cat from Burma to America and crossed it with a representative of the Siamese breed.
For many years he selected kittens with the darkest shade of wool, and only eight years later, a Burmese cat of an unusual chocolate shade was officially registered, acquired its name and popularity.
Already in the middle of the 20th century, European breeders made their contribution to the improvement of the breed: the wool acquired a reddish hue, and the body became more slender. But in this matter, Americans and Europeans did not come to a common standard, therefore, today there are two varieties of the breed:
- american type, which is represented by animals with a dense, slightly squat physique of a rounded shape;
- european type different slightly elongated, slender body constitution, such cats have a slightly pointed muzzle.
What does it look like?
A chocolate Burmese cat looks unusually elegant and resembles a graceful panther.
- The size of the animal is average, the muscles are well developed, cats are in good physical shape, not obese. At the same time, they weigh much more than may seem externally. The weight of a cat is about 3-5 kg, cat - up to 9 kg.
- The shape of the head is slightly rounded, with well-defined cheekbones, the forehead is sloping.
- Ears of medium size, bent forward, set high.
- Burmese eyes expressive, beautiful amber color.
- The nose is small, neat, located in line with a strong chin.
- The neck is short, mobile, the body is round, the back is even.
- Paws harmoniously correspond to the size of the body, they are relatively thin.
- The tail is straight, not very long.
- The wool is soft, satin texture. The villi are short, dense, adjacent to the body. The hair color of chocolate, to the touch resembles silk and has the ability to change the shade, depending on the temperature. When warm, it becomes lighter, and in the cold it takes on a rich tone.
Burmese chocolate color differs from the same in other breeds - in Burmese cats it is lighter. Not all parts of the body are of the same tone: the legs, tail, back and muzzle are slightly darker than the abdomen. The transition is smooth, there are no stripes, spots, stains on the wool. A darker mask and ears stand out on the face, which is typical for representatives of this breed. Chocolate color has a light caramel color.
Character traits
The serious and strict appearance of the Burmese is absolutely not consistent with her temper. These cats are probably the most active and playful representatives of cats, and they remain so in adulthood. The brown beauty does not sit still, she is madly in love with outdoor games and jumping. If the cat stopped and became silent, it means that she is looking for something else to come up with.
They are very curious and fearless, not afraid of strangers or animals, but they are careful and avoid dangers.
Burmese have a vital need for communication and attention, they are very attached to the owner and suffer from loneliness. Asian beauties love to be stroked, talked to them. Paying attention to themselves, they purr loudly, poke a muzzle in the palm of their hand, or fawn.
When acquiring burmese, one must be ready to give almost all of her attention to her, because she always achieves what she wants, thanks to her perseverance and stubbornness. Cats themselves make many decisions and here the opinion of the owner is not taken into account. Despite these character traits, animals are very friendly and completely non-aggressive.
The cat will never release its claws, even in revenge for the pain caused, so the Burmese are ideal for families with children. You can not be afraid that the cat will scratch or bite the child, but here it is already worth worrying about the safety of the animal. Therefore, it is imperative to teach children to be friendly and not to offend a cat, and then they will receive a faithful friend in her face, always ready for noisy and fun games. Brown cats are distinguished by a special devotion to the owner, they are ready to accompany him everywhere, like dogs.
Among the family members, the cat will choose a pet for itself, with whom it will communicate most of all.
Due to the inherent good nature, such animals get along well with other pets. When buying burmese, you need to consider that you have to give it all your attention and care. For this, the graceful “goddess” will thank with love and fidelity.
