Cats are one of the most popular pets. There are many breeds of cats, they are bred both for the soul and for exhibitions and demonstrations. One of the representatives of the amazing breed is an Abyssinian cat of blue color.

Abyssinian color features

Abyssinian cat - this is one of the oldest breeds of cats, according to some scientists, it was them who were bred in Ancient Egypt, calling them "radiant cats of the horizon." This is partly due to their unusual color, which can be blue, brown, silver, purple, tortie, beige (faun) and red (sorrel).

The coat of animals is even and smooth, fits snugly to the body and glistens; they have no stripes, dots or spots either on the tail or on the legs. Each hair coat is dyed in a different tone of the same color on all sides. This type of color is called ticking, and it turns out because of the agouti gene prevailing in these cats. If you pet the cat by coat, you get one shade, against the coat - a shade of the same color will vary in tone, it will be either lighter or darker.

But at the same time, they are not born immediately with their particular color, but acquire it only in the second year of life. Initially, the color of the kittens is dull and weak, and only with time does it acquire its brightness and saturation.

The blue color of the coat is present in almost all cat breeds. If a cat had black relatives for generations, then sooner or later subsequent offspring will acquire a blue color. Abyssinian cats were officially recognized as blue in 1984.

Unlike other colors of this breed, blue has the most visible contrast and its own characteristics.

  • Cats should not have bleached undercoat.
  • Along the spine, a pronounced blue stripe, unlike the whole body.
  • On the abdomen, chest, chin and paws, the undercoat has a lighter shade. It can be apricot, beige, light brown or cream.
  • On the back, head and tail, the coat is gray-blue.
  • The nose may be brown or blue-gray. Eye color is acceptable from copper to green, cats with golden eyes or hazel eyes are also found.

When you get any animal, before you bring it into the house, you need to cook everything you need. This will allow you to avoid any unpleasant moments, and it’s easier for the animal to bear the stress of moving and adapting to a new place.

Abyssinian kittens start selling from an early age, a little older than two months. But it’s better to wait a bit and get a kitten who is at least four months old.

When buying a kitten, you need to look at it carefully and take into account all the points:

  • the coat should be clean and even;
  • eyes are clear, most often emerald or amber, without “tears” or any clusters around them;
  • the ears are clean, like the whole body, without any rashes.

One of the main conditions for keeping Abyssinian cats is a company. They endure loneliness hard. If you are not at home all day, it is best to have two kittens at once.

There are other features in the maintenance and care of them.

  • Food. Animals can eat both conventional foods and specialized feeds. In any case, you need to make the nutrition of kittens diverse and complete. Starting from ten months, they are gradually transferred to an adult diet. If you decide to feed the cat special feeds, then they must be premium. Experienced breeders will recommend manufacturers and brands of feed. They already include vitamin and mineral supplements and amino acids.

Food should always be in the bowl of the animal so that the cat does not eat up “for the future”. And, of course, the animal should always have clean water in the second bowl. Preferring natural products, you need to diversify their diet as much as possible and create a kind of menu for every day.

It is important to ensure that foods prohibited for cat health are not included in the diet. Prohibited foods include lamb and pork fatty meats, sausages and smoked foods, legumes and potatoes, drugs and vitamins intended for humans. Of course, everything sweet should be ruled out.

  • Restroom. Buying kittens in nurseries or from experienced breeders, they will give you some toilet filler, which the kitten is used to. If you want to change it to another brand, you need to do it gradually, otherwise the kitten may completely stop going to an unusual tray. Cats of this breed are clean, the tray needs to be cleaned daily or a second one should be purchased for replacement.
  • Care for the appearance of the kitten. Due to the fact that the kittens have short hair, combing it is sufficient no more than once a week. The kitten should be washed only as necessary and with special shampoos. Ears clean only visible areas without penetrating the ear. They need to be cleaned with cotton pads dipped in a solution to clean the ears. It is better not to touch the eyes of the animal, the kitten must learn to wash itself. Claws are trimmed once every two weeks and only the tips. Every year, kittens need to be vaccinated against infectious diseases.

The breed of Abyssinian cats is among the expensive both in purchase and in maintenance. The price of one kitten can be from 15 to 70 thousand rubles, depending on the pedigree, color and reputation of the seller. Therefore, before purchasing these cats, think again - whether you can keep them and provide everything you need.
