Pearl is a gem that is not considered an independent mineral. It consists of calcium at 85-90%, organic matter accounts for 7-10% (conkhiolin forms the pearl's frame), and the rest is water.

The value of natural pearls is ensured not only by its rarity and natural origin, but also by the fact that it is not eternal. The stone undergoes gradual decay and has a certain shelf life. Over time, the organic substances that underlie dry out, which is manifested in the emerging yellowness on the surface, then in delamination and complete destruction. Since pearls are fragile enough, proper care is very important. For products to serve you as long as possible, use the tips in this article.

How to store?

Natural minerals are very wayward and whimsical. Although it is an organic stone, pearls are quite fragile. It is easy to scratch it; it may not survive a fall even from a small height or a sharp contact with a harder surface.

That is why before leaving it is recommended to wear it on yourself last, when all the clothes are already on you. The same rule works in the opposite direction - returning home, you need to remove jewelry first.

But careful handling includes more than that.

It is necessary to monitor:

  • after the temperature - high temperatures negatively affect the material;
  • for cleanliness and humidity - too dry environment will lead to faster decay;
  • in the absence of direct sunlight;
  • Avoid contact with the mineral chlorinated water, cleaning and hygiene products.

Do not forget to take off jewelry when you go to the pool, sauna, relax on the beach or in nature, especially if you are going to wash the dishes or start cleaning the house. It is better to remove the rings, earrings and pendants before bedtime, after removing the traces of the socks with a soft, slightly damp cloth.

It is better to put pearls into velvet boxes or caskets, it is desirable that the stones do not come into contact with other, especially harder minerals.

How to clean?

Pearls can be restored to their former luster, evenness, refresh the stone.

However, the incorrect choice of a tool, which, in your opinion, should restore the jewelry, can be a fatal mistake. We recommend that you take the recommendations very carefully and do not improvise using folk methods.

  • The best pearl cleanser is professional jewelry paste. It is applied to soft tissue without solid particles in the pile. Each bead is wiped separately, even if you have a massive necklace with many balls. Cleaning should touch each item. After wiping with paste, you will need to re-treat each bead, but with a dry rag without lint. The downside of this professional approach is that it cannot be used too often, otherwise the active ingredients in the composition will negatively affect the pearl.
  • Quickly and effectively at home, you can restore the shine with a soap solution. Draw water into a small container, add fragrance-free soap (liquid or soak solid, one spoon per liter of water is enough) and lower the products into the solution for several minutes. After the procedure, remove moisture and soap residue with a soft, lint-free cloth. You can also use cotton pads.
  • You can take care of pearls with the help of olive oil. On a cotton swab, apply a few drops of oil and treat the pearl. After that, remove the remaining oil with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth or a fresh cotton pad.
  • Another way to spice up a piece of jewelry is to use starch. Take a piece of velvet fabric, sprinkle it with a little starch. Then put the dirty pearls on the fabric and gently rub the bead. The remaining powder can be removed with a damp cloth or cotton swab, and then you need to wipe the pearls dry.

A separate line in the care of pearl jewelry is a necklace. The difficulty is that for a bunch of natural stones use nylon or silk threads. They are less durable than stones and wear out faster. therefore, care (and it will be mechanical in any case) should be special and divided into two parts:

  1. care for beads;
  2. thread cleaning.

Safe and gentle thread can be washed with potato flour. Just leave the product for 24 hours in a bowl of flour. After time, take out the decoration and remove the flour with a soft, dry cloth.

Jewelry Care

You now know how to process natural stone, but there are also less expensive, but more common artificial pearls, which also require care. Consider how to do it right.

An artificial version, the so-called Roman beads, is stronger than river or sea pearls, so you can not handle it so reverently, but still correctly. In no case should jewelry be soaked in water with high temperature, exclude the possibility of acid, vinegar and corrosive household products.

To shine a necklace or ring with artificial stones, you can wash the surface with cool tap water and a small amount of baby soap.

Jewelry with precious metals

The rules of socks and care for the proper storage of such headsets should apply not only to pearls, but also to the metal that borders the stones. Keep in mind that silver and gold darkens over time, and even if the stone itself does not lose its luster, the jewelry as a whole will get an untidy look and will require correction.

When buying specialized cleaning products, it is better to clarify so that the composition is not too concentrated, because pastes or powders will fall not only on the metal, but also touch the stone. And what works well on one element can destroy another.

Use the most gentle care options, for example, a mild soap solution, and if you understand that it is not possible to wash the dirt at home, we strongly recommend contacting a professional.

Energy cleaning

Not everyone takes this type of cleansing seriously, some do not consider such procedures to be necessary, but if warned, it means armed. It is better to be aware, suddenly your opinion will change over time.

To wash home decorations with soap and water is a simple action, and it should be taken as a rule. This helps maintain the look of the stone. But if this is your favorite ring, earrings or pendant that you wear constantly, in addition to physical, you will also need energy purification. If the product has a natural stone, it will absorb the energy of the owner, both on good days and on bad.

Particular attention should be paid to energy cleaning if the decoration was given to you as a gift or passed from another person by inheritance. It is believed that, along with a gift, you can get the fate of the person who wore the item before you. Most likely, you will not want to adopt other people's life stories, so hereinafter we give a few examples of how you can clear the aura of a stone.

  • Energy Efficient and Safe - Physical is considered to be peeling in whole grains of rice. They will not affect the metal, do not damage the stone, does not change its color and structure. Place the product in a small container filled with rice and leave it there for 24 hours. Rice for cleaning can be reused, but you can’t eat it.
  • Some use a non-standard option of getting rid of someone else's or negative energy - sound vibrations. People either read mantra and prayer over the decoration, or record the sound of church bells. You can treat this non-standard way in different ways, but you must admit that you cannot help but notice the pleasant lightness in your soul when you hear loud bells ringing.

In stone cleaning recommendations, salt, sun, and fire are often found. But in the case of pearls, we recommend that you strictly refrain from such methods. You may be able to direct the energy in the right direction, but outwardly the product can be irreversibly damaged.

Now that you know everything about storage, remember the rules of wearing, and will use the cleaning techniques correctly, your pearls (sea, cultured or artificial) will serve you for many years.
