Many years ago, the damn finger scared superstitious peasants with all its appearance, many attributed it to a connection with unclean forces, however, with the development of science it turned out that this mineral was just petrified shells of ancient Mesozoic mollusks. After millions of years, they covered with multiple rocks, but the conical shape was preserved, which is why the damn finger resembles the claw of a devil creature.

What it is?

The second name of the stone is a thunder arrow. This fossil has a rather rich history and has a truly powerful energy. It owes its past to the Belemnites - one of the oldest mollusks that lived on earth about 70 million years ago. It is believed that these creatures were the distant ancestors of squid, and everywhere inhabited the seas and oceans in prehistoric times.

According to the description, belemnites belong to the group of cephalopods that have completely disappeared to date. They were rather agile predators, reaching a length of 15-25 cm. Outwardly they looked like squids, but differed in the presence of a strong inner shell containing a cavity divided by partitions.

It housed the slimy body of the mollusk along with fluttering long tentacles and suction cups.

Outside, the shell was completely covered with a protective leather cover, and the pointed part of the mollusk was a roster, visually resembling an arrowhead. It is these copies that have survived to modern times, unfortunately, nothing remained from the body of the mollusk, as well as from the cover. BThe elemnites became extinct about 60 million years ago, their extinction coincided with the mysterious extinction of the dinosaurs - it is possible that they became victims of global cooling and a significant drop in water temperature.

The sizes of belemnites could be very different, and ranged from a few millimeters to 45 cm. It is known that rare specimens reached even 3 meters in length.

The color scheme of belemnites was also variable - now you can see the damn fingers of rusty-brown, grayish-gray, brown, amber, and even coal shades.

Usually, after polishing, a holographic shine becomes pronounced on them.

Composition of fossils

The main element in the structure of belemnite is calcium carbonate. Cephalopods lived in a clean natural environment, where there are much fewer toxic elements than today. Phosphorus, sodium, nickel, potassium, as well as magnesium, manganese, and iron can be found in the structure of this mollusk. Some varieties include bromine, copper, cobalt, vanadium, chromium, even silver and gold elements.

It is known that the bloody finger powder has the ability to stop blood and tighten wounds almost instantly. This property is explained by the presence of aragonite in the rostrum, a substance with exceptional regenerative properties.

So, everyone knows the unique properties of water in the Czech spa Karlovy Vary. Studies have shown that the healing ability of a fluid is directly related to its saturation with aragonite.

Place of Birth

Modern science knows more than 300 species of belemnites, depending on the natural conditions and habitat, their shape and structure changed. So the mollusks that live in the ponds had rather long, refined rosters, and on the coasts one could find short individuals with wide shells. Since this cephalopod lived everywhere in prehistoric times, their petrified remains today can be found in various parts of the globe.

They are located at a depth of sediments of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The largest findings have been discovered on the Australian continent. It should be noted that the minerals found there are of high value, and, in addition, are used to create jewelry.

After grinding and polishing, they become like opals, so jewelry with these stones look very impressive and are always highly valued.

As for Russia, the cluster of bloody fingers can be found in various corners: they can be found in the suburbs, on the banks of the Oka and Volga. As a rule, fossils can be detected only by digging a shovel to a depth of half a meter, especially a lot of them in sandy clay soils.

The properties

If we talk about the physical properties of the stone, we can confidently say that belemnites have a fairly low strength, low hardness, so they are easy to damage and scratch, not only with metal, but even ordinary glass. In numbers, hardness is estimated at 5.5 points on the Mohs scale.

However, this parameter is considered approximate, since the mollusk usually formed its shells from those substances that it found in permanent habitats.

So, in Australia, stones were discovered, the strength of which is estimated at 7 points - in their physical properties they are quite similar to opals.

Fingers are credited with many healing and mystical properties. Let us dwell in more detail on the effect that a stone has on a person.

Medical

In ancient times, the powder of the devil’s finger was widely used to treat snake bites and other wounds - it was believed that in this way it is possible to quickly remove inflammation and contribute to the rapid restoration of the integument. In those years, such manipulations were certainly accompanied by the reading of special slander. In the countries of the Old World, residents argued that a powdered mineral, blown directly into the eyes, improves vision. However, according to the annals, such treatment not only did not bring the desired result, but, on the contrary, worsened the situation of the patient. In Scotland, the water was insisted on the damn finger. In the Middle Ages, intestinal upsets and poisoning were treated in this way.

If we talk about scientifically confirmed facts, it should be noted that belemnites are used to treat a fairly wide range of diseases. The mineral is 70% calcium, 30% is accounted for by many other trace elements. In its structure, harmful substances are completely absent, since in the Mesozoic era they simply were neither in water nor in air. That is why supporters of lithotherapy everywhere use belemnite in their practice.

For therapy, you can make the powder yourself, or you can buy it already ready, in specialized pharmacies.

The bloody finger is shown to improve endurance, physical strength, human activity. It helps to strengthen the immune system, mobilizing the protective resources of the body. In alternative medicine, 0.5 g of belemnite powder is dissolved in 250 ml of warm water, stirred well, and when the whole precipitate drops, the resulting infusion is filtered and consumed 30-40 minutes before meals three times a day.

The course of such therapy lasts 10 days, and with osteoporosis it is extended to 30 days.

There are a number of other diseases that the damn finger is very successful at. Many skin pathologies can be noted: psoriasis, various trophic ulcers, furunculosis, weeping dermatitis. With such problems, it is necessary to sprinkle inflammation with cephalopod powder every day.

With osteoporosis, the crushed stone solution is used internally, traditionally, the course of treatment lasts 1 month and is repeated 3-4 times a year. An improvement is noted in the treatment of gastritis and ulcers by belemnites - in this case, a solution of powder is also used inside. The solution has established itself as a good remedy for colds and allergic diseases, as well as for tuberculosis. It should be noted that for medicinal purposes, you can take the powder, as well as ointments containing fragments of belemnite.

Caution: before treatment with belemnitis, you should consult a doctor.

Please note that the use of drugs from the bloody finger is strictly prohibited for cancer, hypertension, urolithiasis and cholelithiasis, as well as for thrombophlebitis and during pregnancy.

Magical

Belemnite shellfish quite often takes out of the water and throws it ashore. Ancient people believed that this was connected with the tricks of the devil, and meeting with such a stone promises trouble. A lot of beliefs are associated with the black finger, for the most part they are negative. People saw a direct connection between the stone and the evil forces, some even called it demonic. Despite this, the bloody finger was used with might and main to create talismans and amulets.

Many legends have been created to explain the origin of the Belemnites. Usually they describe stones as the stumps of the fingers of formidable monsters and evil spirits, some beliefs say that these are arrows sent from the clouds. One legend says that once the supreme demon wanted to take control of the whole earth and was immediately defeated and punished for it - the gods turned it into rock, and the severed fingers spread around the world, so that they were not only on the ground, but and in bodies of water.

In the mythology of some European countries, belemnite is often associated with a downpour - it was believed that this stone protects the house from damage during a thunderstorm.. In China, belemnite is called the teeth of dragons, and it is believed that the larger the stone, the angrier and more dangerous the lizard.

People believed that the strength and power of such a dragon would necessarily pass to a person wearing an amulet.

The origin of the name of the stone is not completely clear, it gained distribution exclusively on the territory of our country, but at the same time there is no legend explaining it.It is possible that the stone is associated with devils for the reason that it is usually found in unclean places: lowlands, ravines, swamps. In the beliefs of ancient people, any folding is the work of the devil's forces, it is believed that in the process of creating our world, the devil put a piece of land in his mouth, chewed, and then spat out. That is how mountains, ditches, potholes arose, where devils have since begun to inhabit.

Many regions of Russia have their own legends about the origin of this unusual mineral. For example, in the Smolensk region, old-timers claim that the devils fight at night in fist fights and break their fingers. In Ukrainian villages, there is a tradition that the demons lost their fingers when God threw them from heaven. Some legends say that Michael the Archangel himself chopped off unclean fingers, which is why devils are often called ashes.

The peoples of the Komi Republic still transmit the legend of the good god Yong, who once decided to expel all demons from the earth, from generation to generation. To do this, he turned into an ordinary potter and sat down near a high road. The devils who saw him began to taunt him and show off their ability to decrease and increase in size. Then, teasing them, Young suggested they get into the pot. Stupid spirits did just that, but God sealed the pots and buried them in the ground. However, one pot broke and the demon imprisoned in it rushed to run, that is legs, so fast that it broke its fingers along the road, clinging to the ground with its claws.

Another variant of the name is the fingers of water. Watermark is one of the most terrible representatives of the unclean, whom the Slavs feared more than the devil. It is believed that those drowned in the last minutes before death see such fingers in front of them. A similar version was born among the Nenets peoples - there the belemnite is considered to be the claws of the water spirit with which it breaks ice in the spring. And on Yamal such stones are called mermaid claws.

To this day, the damn finger is considered a strong amulet. According to some psychics, using belemnite fixed on the wall of a house, you can significantly reduce the negative impact in a residential building or apartment. In Slavic mythology, the bloody finger was also used as an amulet - it is believed that it is a reliable way to protect the home from lightning flashes. To do this, Rusich scattered stones all over the roof, and also hung them in the attic. The endless faith in the superpower of the stone endowed it with fire-retardant characteristics - it is believed that the mineral reliably protects the house from the destructive effect of fire.

In addition, the stone is considered an endless source of energy. According to legends, those people who wear a mascot with a bloody finger on themselves will always be calm and completely confident in the future.

This amulet will protect relations in the family, protect from all sorts of working troubles.

Application

Numerous studies have proven that petrified prehistoric mollusks have an exceptionally rich trace mineral composition. These components are widely used in the cosmetology industry to create care and anti-aging products. Ground mollusks are added to the bath composition, masks, compresses, and belemnite powders are added to shampoos and hair rinses.

Nowadays, bloody fingers in powder form are added to feed for farm animals - it is noted that with constant consumption, they increase immunity, strengthen bones and muscles, and increase productivity.

Minerals are valuable exhibits in the collections of lovers of antiquity, Belemnites also use to create ethnic talismans and amulets, mollusks in which blood vessels are clearly visible are considered valuable - such damn fingers are found in large numbers in the mountains of the Altai Territory.

Large belemnites are considered an excellent decorative element that can set stylish accents in the interior of a living room or fireplace room. Belemnite shells can be placed in aquariums, put on a coffee table or bookshelf. Some craftsmen even make special collectibles on coasters made of ornamental stones, decorated with chains and colored lights.

Belemnite is inexpensive, the price of a damn finger in the market starts at 50 rubles apiece or from 700 rubles per kilogram. As for the creation of jewelry, mainly processed polished belemnites are used for jewelry.

Jewelers who know a lot about precious stones rarely resort to using minerals of biological origin.

Who is it for?

This is not to say that belemnite particularly favors a particular zodiac sign - it gives its favor to anyone who decides to wear jewelry with a bloody finger or make a talisman out of it. However, in Slavic mythology, petrified mollusks are considered to be the children of Perun, so such jewelry will be especially useful for people born at the end of summer - this corresponds to the zodiac constellation Leo. According to esoteric beliefs, stone helps them build a career and rewards them with such important qualities as courage, decisiveness, confidence in themselves and their abilities.

Care for stone jewelry

To preserve this unusual prehistoric stone in its original form, the basic rules for caring for it should be observed. Belemnite has a rather fragile structure, so if any cracks or scratches form, you must definitely polish your existing specimen. They clean it with ordinary rags, while you can achieve the appearance of a surprisingly beautiful shine.

But during the manipulations you need to monitor your actions - they must be accurate and extremely accurate.

Special attention should be paid to the process of processing belemnites, which includes several stages.

  • Stone inspection. For further processing, it should be intact, if there are cracks and chips, then you just need to cut off the damaged part, after which, using special grinding nozzles, give the necessary conical shape. If the stone has a too rough surface, then we will need nozzles for the engraver and the like.
  • At the second stage, preliminary grinding is carried out, usually emery is suitable for this with grit parameters # 360 or # 800 - however, if at the first stage you were able to achieve a flat surface, then you can safely skip this point.
  • Finishing sanding. For this, special engravers working at high speeds are used, with a nozzle made of felt, on which grinding paste is previously applied. It is best to use white, because, getting into cracks, it is not as noticeable as, for example, red or green.

If you don’t have an engraving machine at your disposal, a regular piece of leather will work, for convenience it is pulled upside down on a wooden beam, sanding paste is applied and polished. In both cases, the result will be the same, just when working with the skin will require more time and physical effort. The stones do not cover with varnish, but if the author’s idea of the decoration requires it, then they use a glossy acrylic composition.

You can achieve a radiant appearance by rubbing the stone with ordinary wax.

Of course, the bloody finger does not look so beautiful in appearance, like some other gems and minerals. This stone has a long history, which, despite the mythological essence, could not leave its noticeable energy trace on this stone. For many centuries, generations of people sincerely believe in the magical healing power of this mineral and give it a special feeling, which you can experience only by taking belemnite in your hands.

Just think about it, this seemingly nondescript stone was once a real living creature that lived in a flock and inspired fear in the smaller inhabitants of water bodies. This cephalopod mollusk prehistoric oceans and seas, and died when permafrost hit the earth.. But the history of the stone did not end there - for many thousands and even millions of years the earth was carrying it. This stone was still worshiped by our ancestors, and now many people believe in it, and the benefits of belemnite are recognized even by official medicine.
