In the vicinity of Simferopol there is an amazing natural monument - Weeping Rock.

A block of sandstone and limestone seems to be really crying: drops of water, sometimes even jets, appear through its walls.

Outwardly, it is similar to the green giant, because it is covered with moss and lichen.

Natural features

The rock formation is heterogeneous - it consists of layers of sandstone and conglomerates that alternate with each other.

The layers themselves differ in structure, so outwardly the rock in the section resembles a kind of layer cake.

The height of the cliff is 6-7 meters, and the length is 120-150.

Such dimensions allow us to say that the crying rock is completely small

But this miracle of nature is in a wonderful place where you can learn all the beauty of nature.

The form is stepped, the rock consists of terraces, which gradually narrow.

Water breaks through the bottom, protruding directly from the stone and flows in neat transparent jets.

All fluid is collected in a small lake that has formed at the foot.

All this looks like a kind of small waterfall.

Small drops protrude over the entire surface and are distinguished by an unusual bluish color, which is why they resemble tears.

Geologists explain the miracle of nature from a scientific point of view and assure that such weeping stones are often found in nature.

In fact, the causes of the phenomenon are no less bewitching than it is. Cavernous limestone is able to absorb liquid from the atmosphere. Over time, the stone is saturated enough to exude water itself.

Time passes, water begins to oozing from the lower layers, which are composed of pebble sandstones.

Small recesses in the structure accumulate water and begin to pour it with peculiar “tears” according to the principle of a crowded jug.

Everything seems to be clear and the phenomenon is completely natural, but it is it that brings special charm to the Simferopol region and the glory of the Weeping Rock.

Legend of the cliff

Geologists tried to explain everything as scientifically as possible, but there is another version of the origin of the Weeping Rock. The legend tells about the son of one of the first khans. When the baby was born, he immediately became the beloved son of the ruler. The child grew up and pleased his father in everything - handsome, smart, could survive in any conditions. The ruler was especially struck by the fact that the boy was wise and penetrating beyond his years.

People are not without weaknesses, and so the son of the khan was, as they say, not without sin. He was very amorous, and when passion seized him, he became completely reckless. However, he was extremely cruel to the subject of his desire. The guy closed the girls he liked in the tower, considering them his property. Once the dungeon was overflowed with young virgins and the son of the khan decided to build a new place for detention. An Italian builder, who was also in captivity, was involved in this case.

The master spent a long time looking for a suitable place, but once he found a small rock in the forest thickets that was perfectly suitable for the purpose.

When construction began, a narrow hole was found between the stones.

It turned out that this hole leads to a large cave with a great many corridors and secret passages.

But each of them led to a lake hidden from prying eyes. The place seemed literally fabulous, so the architect decided to hide the find from everyone, even from the overlord.

Time passed, the builder finished the project, and the son of the khan really liked the result, but he himself was weak and very ill. The young man awarded the master, making him a confidante and entrusted to look after the girls. When the Italian builder came to the harem, among many maidens he saw his daughter, whom he had already considered dead for many years. There were three of her beautiful children.

The master gathered his courage and went to his master. Falling at his feet, he talked about his daughter, about a magic cave with a beautiful lake.

The architect was waiting for punishment, but suddenly the prince helped the man up, hugged him and began to cry, calling his father. According to legend, the builder, ruler and a girl with three children disappeared that night.

It is believed that they all settled near that lake, and their tears of happiness appeared through the walls due to family reunion.
