Description and History

Shchelkino is a city that was founded for a very specific purpose. So, the main composition of its population was the builders of the Crimean nuclear power plant. This village was named appropriately - in honor of the well-known scientist in the Soviet Union, Kirill Shchelkin, who worked in the field of nuclear physics. If we talk about specific dates, then on the map of the Crimea this settlement appeared in 1978.

The construction of a nuclear power plant in the Crimea began 3 years after the founding of the city, in 1981. The initiative to build this enterprise belonged to Shtogrin V.A. Several years after the Schelkinskaya NPP began to be built, this construction was recognized by the Komsomolskaya All-Union Shock. The described events took place in 1984 and by this time the city of Shchelkino had grown significantly, began to divide into districts. However, the construction did not last long. Unfortunately, by 1989, the official construction process was completely frozen.

Despite this, at that moment in the village, which is located on the shores of the Sea of Azov, already a large number of people lived, so the city continued to exist. In the vicinity of the settlement, other objects of strategic importance were built: a solar power station and wind generators (the latter still work today).
