Most of the small cottage villages on the Crimean peninsula exist solely due to the influx of tourists and the ability to rent housing near one of the attractions. Satera is one of such villages - almost no one lives here in the winter, but in the summer, travelers flock to it from all over the Crimea to enjoy the unusual natural phenomenon - stone mushrooms.

Description

A unique natural monument, better known as stone mushrooms, is located near the eastern part of Alushta, in a canyon near the Sotera River. The river is 8 km long and flows from the mountain slopes of the northern cape Demerdzhi. In the Middle Ages, a Christian Orthodox church was erected there, and therefore the name of the river in Greek means “savior”. The area near the channel in ancient times was known for its healing power.

According to ancient legends, everyone who touches the leg of a mushroom can count on the fulfillment of any love desire. And in fact, the atmosphere of Soter, even for the most sophisticated tourists, has a truly magical effect - the coast of the beach is literally strewn with pebbles, which look like small hearts - that's why the locals nicknamed the town "Valley of Love".

Satera does not have the official status of a settlement, so there is no local leadership and administration here. The number of inhabitants is a little more than a hundred, and most of them are engaged in the maintenance of mini-hotels open in the summer, and in the winter they move to other places. The weather in the area is pretty pleasant, the climate is subtropical. Thanks to the mountains, the tract is closed from the Crimean steppe winds. The coast is stony, coarse-grained; very large stones are often found on beaches.

Despite the long history of existence, the exact name of the village has not yet been established - different spellings are used both through "a" and through "o", respectively, Sater and Soter, however, the second option is used more often.

Holidays in the town are preferred by tourists who do not like noisy, typically resort entertainment - most often these are adult couplesand families with kids here may be bored, because there are no attractions, and a pebble beach is not always to the liking of small children. Nevertheless, a camp for schoolchildren is located here - thanks to the healing air, the guys here not only relax, but also get better.

Stone mushrooms

As we already mentioned, stone mushrooms are considered the main attraction of the place. Many people know about the existence of similar mysteries of nature in Altai, but few people know that in Crimea there are similar unusual formations, one of them is in Soter, and the second is in the valley of the Small Salgir river. Once in Soter there were 3 large mushrooms, but in 1983 the largest one, “Sentinel of the Glade”, fell and completely collapsed, so there were only two left, but in 1999, three more babies were discovered, which slightly rise above the ground .

It is quite easy to destroy mushrooms, therefore, since 1960 the place has been declared a natural monument protected by the state, and two decades later it was officially recognized as a protected natural reserve. The largest mushroom to date is a 5–6-meter foot, formed mainly from clay and a large stone hat. Such unusual sculptures are formed due to the gradual leaching and weathering of the earth under boulders.

Interesting in the area

The fossils are certainly interesting for tourists, but in the area Mushroom valleys There are many places that also attract the attention of travelers. So, the whole area around is replete with the most picturesque corners, for example, climbing up the path you can find yourself in a thick oak thicket, which will be a great place for a halt.

Moving through the thickets of trees you can get to the famous Geyser waterfall, which Crimeans often call the “bathtub of youth”. A distinctive feature is foamed water, which was the result of an unusual structure. Even in hot summers on the hottest day, the water here remains icy - a person who decides to take such a bath immediately jumps out of it, sensing an unusual influx of strength and energy. The waterfall is also attributed to the reserve.

Very close to it you can see the destroyed monument, reminiscent of a military figure - in fact, it is nothing more than a piece of rock and its origin is not made by hands. In Soter, there is not a single sculpture created by man at all - each was the result of winds, rainfall and geological processes.

Rules for

Given the reserved status of the area, there are certain rules of conduct. So, stone mushrooms are forbidden to touch, especially during rains. The fact is that with an increased level of humidity, the leg becomes quite weak and may simply not be able to withstand a heavy stone hat - this is exactly what happened at the time with the “Guard”. It is forbidden to burn bonfires, break and chop trees, fish and hunt in the area.

After visiting the area, people should clean up the rubbish remaining after the halt, otherwise they will face a large fine. In a word, visitors must abide by all the rules of decent behavior in the natural environment, without intruding on the natural processes of forest life.

The reserve is open around the clock, so it receives visitors in the morning, afternoon, evening and even at night.

How to get there

You can get to Sateru only by car or on foot. You can also take a minibus from Alushta to Rybachye and get off on the 16th kilometer of the main highway. If you move by your car, then also stop near the sign “16th km” - there is a house nearby and a “pocket” for cars is provided around the corner.

A narrow trodden road leads from the track to the forest, if you move along it with brisk pace, then after 35-40 minutes you can be in the clearing, from there you need to go to the right path leading up the slope, and literally after a couple of minutes of climb up the rocky road You will find yourself in a valley of mushrooms.
