The Crimean peninsula is widely known among tourists as resorts on its southern coast, but you should not think that the tourism potential of Crimea is limited to this. Even if you are looking for a beach holiday, you should remember that the sea here is from all sides, and although subtropics and palm trees can be found only in the south, in summer the air and water temperatures are good on all Crimean coasts. At the same time, most tourists will inevitably still rush to the south and to large cities.

While those who are looking for peace or just want to save money, choose small resort villages just north. If you think such an approach to choosing a resort is reasonable, be sure to pay attention to the village of Mezhvodnoe.

Description and History

The village of Mezhvodnoe is located in the western part of the Crimean peninsula and administratively belongs to the Black Sea region. This is a fairly large settlement with a population of over 2 thousand people, although some 10 years ago there were 1.5 times more people. The unusual location of the village is very conducive to its development as a resort.

It is sandwiched between the Yarylgach Bay of the Karkinitsky Bay of the Black Sea, as well as two estuary-type lakes - Yarylgach and Dzharylgach. In summer, you should go here for a beach holiday, but a mud treatment is possible almost all year round.

Experts agree that today the entire balneological potential of this place has not been revealed, therefore Mezhvodnoye has a development prospect.

The exact time of the village’s origin is unknown - scientists can only say that 4 thousand years ago people appeared here.In the IV-III centuries BC, the houses of the ancient Greeks were discovered here, which did not last long - the hostile barbarians lived too close. At the time of the Crimean Khanate, the village already existed and bore the Tatar name, which has still been preserved in the surrounding objects - Yarylgach.

After the annexation of Crimea to the Russian Empire in 1783, the local population began to leave here, and a map of 1817 shows that the village remains, but there are no more people in it. However, by 1842, people appeared here again - Crimean Tatars again began to populate the settlement.

Nevertheless, after the Crimean War of 1853-1855, the whole local population again left the village, and after 10 years it was populated mainly by Russian people.

Where is it and how to get there?

If you are looking for Mezhvodnoe on the map of Crimea, pay attention to the protruding western tip of the peninsula. If you look from the side of Simferopol, you need to choose the north-western direction - approximately to Yevpatoriya, which is the closest major city to Mezhvodnoye. The village itself is located in the Black Sea region, 16 kilometers from the Black Sea regional center.

Most tourists arrive on the Crimean peninsula through Simferopol airport. Even despite the fact that Mezhvodnoe is a small village, even it has direct passenger communication with the Crimean capital.

A direct bus runs only twice a day from the Central Bus Station, both flights depart after lunch. Estimated travel time is about 4 hours.

Given that direct flights from Simferopol to Mezhvodnoe do not go so often, it is worth considering an alternative travel option - with a change in the regional center of the Black Sea. Here buses from the Crimean capital go much more intensively; there are flights both from the Central Bus Station and from the Kurortnaya bus station-2. Depending on the route, the trip can take 3-4 hours. It’s already much easier to get to Mezhvodnoye - there are local buses and taxis for this.

For those who prefer to travel by car, Mezhvodnoe is not a very convenient destination, since even the commissioned Crimean bridge is located quite far from it.

If you nevertheless decided to come by personal transport from the Krasnodar Territory, 350 kilometers will have to be covered across the territory of Crimea, which will take 5-5.5 hours.

Most services recommend moving along the main tracks, although this is not the shortest path - at first almost to Feodosia along the Tavrida highway, turning right on Dzhankoy in time. Behind it, the direction leads to Krasnoperekopsk and Armyansk, on the road to which you need to turn left into the Black Sea in Voinka. Mezhvodnoe is located on the last section of the route, so do not get lost.

Where to stay?

Mezhvodnoe is neither a universally recognized resort of considerable fame, nor just a large settlement, however, the fact that there are good opportunities for the development of balneological tourism could not but affect the local infrastructure. Naturally, a significant proportion of places where you can stay in the village are boarding houses and recreation centers of a sanatorium type with food and medical procedures, because many people come here not only to relax, but also to improve their health.

Do not think that all such infrastructure is purely Soviet development - for example, boarding house "Dolphin" It was built not so long ago and has already gained wide popularity among guests of the western part of Crimea.

Here you can relax for 1200 rubles per day per person (2019), despite the fact that all services are already included in the price.

An alternative may be boarding house "Lydia", which is good in that it offers rooms of different price categories - from economy to luxury. Among the additional features here are options for outdoor activities: table tennis, bicycle and so on.

For those who would like not to be treated, but simply to comfortably relax on the sea away from too popular resorts, a different type of housing is presented. Despite the fact that Mezhvodnoe has not yet reached the level of resorts of the Southern coast of Crimea, today there are already good hotels and hotels near the sea and with their own parking. They in most cases have been built already in the last couple of decades, therefore they do not scare “Soviet comfort”. We highlight some of the most popular places.

  • Hotel Villa Espanyola is one of the best and most expensive in the village. The settlement here is carried out in separate cottages. The apartments are equipped with all necessary appliances, each room has a small seating area.
  • Guest house "La Fleur" convenient for families with children - there is a separate playground for kids. Outsiders cannot enter the territory, since it is fenced. Cooking can also be independent in the shared kitchen, if you wish, you can immediately rent everything you need for a picnic.
  • Guest house "ART" resembles a classic hotel - in a three-story building rooms are located at 2, 3 or 4 places. There is a breakdown of rooms by class: the "luxury" in comparison with the "standard" has much more household appliances like a crock-pot, electric kettle and microwave. There are opportunities for organizing a picnic with barbecue or playing table tennis, as well as a playground.

As in other parts of Crimea, a significant part of the housing supply in the lower price segment is formed by the private sector. You can negotiate with the owner not only on the spot, but often via the Internet, however, here it’s much more difficult to evaluate the level of comfort provided in advance.

It should be said right away that this budget option is more suitable for unpretentious vacationers, because the maximum that the owner can provide is the level of the “standard” hotel, but with self-catering.

The best beaches

Despite its modest size, Mezhvodnoe is ready to offer guests a good selection of beaches for every taste. Consider several popular places where locals and tourists alike go most often.

  • The central beach of the village is the only one where there is infrastructure, but it's hard to find fault with it - for a two thousandth town this is what you need. There is enough length of 1.5 kilometers with a width of 100 meters for Mezhvodnoye - there is no excessive crowding here. The central beach is made of fine clean sand. Although there is no organized parking, you can always park somewhere nearby.
  • Wild beaches of Yarylgach bay will be interesting to those who agree to sacrifice even a modest village infrastructure for the sake of relaxing at sea in a place where there are no strangers at all or almost. The beaches are located south of the former oil base, which has not been functioning for a long time, and therefore does not pollute the water. A motorway passes nearby, which makes it easier for tourists to get here with their own cars.
  • Beaches of Dzharylgach Lake are not sea, but many tourists go here for the sake of the local estuary with healing mud. Those who don’t like to swim in salt water should also go here, especially since these places are picturesque. There are not so many people here, because there is no beach infrastructure on the lake either. The beach itself, by the way, is relatively small - with a length of a kilometer its width is actually limited to a ten-meter strip along the water, since the farther from the pond the sand is too compact.
    • The wild beaches of the Black Cape located west of the village - where the local lighthouse is located. The cape separates a small bay from the sea, so vacationers can not adjust to the weather, but choose the option that suits them more. There are several beach areas, and all of them are rather small, but there are not many people here. There is no infrastructure, but this is one of the cleanest places in the village with breathtaking landscapes.

    sights

Unlike most Crimean resorts, there are no outstanding architectural sights in Mezhvodnoye - this is just a small village in which there are no ancient buildings. Due to this, you can see here only the surrounding nature - the benefit is that it is quite attractive. Local advise guests to visit the village on the Bakal Spit - a thin strip of land that separates the sea and the lagoon.

The weather in reservoirs from different sides can be different at the same time - for example, the sea is worried, and in the lagoon there is absolute calm. Among other things, from here it is very convenient to watch dolphins who have chosen this coast.

Not far from Mezhvodnoy is located and Cape Tarkhankut, probably known to most lovers of the Soviet film industry as a place chosen by filmmakers for its picturesqueness. A lot of films showing scenes of remote coasts were made here, the most famous are such films as Amphibian Man and Pirates of the 20th Century. If you still want architecture, you can try take a walk along Mezhvodnoye itself, but there are very few real attractions here.

Of religious buildings should be allocated unless Chapel of St. Olga, an attractive fountain is also located in the center of the square. If you are looking for a photo zone, be sure to stroll to the Lovers' Bench. Fans of marine romance may also find it interesting lighthouse, which is noted for a somewhat unusual architecture.

For those who have come on vacation for a long time and have already managed to get enough of both beaches and impressive local landscapes, an excursion to large cities of Crimea may be interesting. The southern coast, which is usually transported not only for sunbathing and swimming, but also for sightseeing, is quite remote, but Evpatoria is relatively close. Mezhvodnoe is connected with it by direct bus flights, which depart several times a day, it will take 2-2.5 hours to spend on the road.

If you suddenly have a car, you can solve the problem faster - 71 kilometers on the local highway will pass the car in 1 hour 20 minutes.

    Recreation and entertainment

Being a relatively small village, remote from the main resort area, Mezhvodnoe does not offer any unbelievable entertainment to the visiting tourist, except for those that can be organized in any coastal village of the same size. For adults, there are actually only 2 options for an unusual pastime - kiting and fishing.

Kiting for many people can be of significant interest, because not all of our fellow citizens regularly visit the sea. This sport resembles windsurfing, only here the movement along the waves is due to the traction of a simultaneously launched kite.

Naturally, this requires certain skills, but among the locals there are several people who call themselves instructors. These same people will rent to the curious tourists everything they need for the first lesson, so if you have been dreaming for a long time or it just got boring - why not try it.

Fishing is more interesting to men, because even a typical domestic fisherman, accustomed to medium-sized rivers or small lakes, will be interested to try their luck by throwing a hook into the real sea. Having agreed with the locals, you can make the process as interesting as possible - for example, rent a boat and get out at a certain distance from the coast.

In this case, practical fishing can be combined with a purely aesthetic occupation in the form of a boat trip, which a lady might like.

There are no more options for children, and all of them are located on the promenade, which is the center of life in the summer. All that Mezhvodnoe offers to the kids is a small amusement park where there are trampolines, labyrinths and the “highlight of the program” - the Ferris wheel. Also nearby mini-zoo "Teremok"but only pets are represented here.

In order to entertain a bored child, you still have to go to Yevpatoriya, where there is an aquarium, a terrarium and a dolphinarium.

The choice of catering establishments is also not too large, but still it is quite possible to eat deliciously in Mezhvodnoye. At least it’s worth a look at "Octopus", where you can taste dishes of all local cuisines - Russian, Tatar and Ukrainian, and in the evening one of the main discos of the village begins here.

For European cuisine and interesting cocktails, you should contact another cafe - Sunrise. Finally, on the seashore, you just need to taste local seafood, therefore, a visit to the fish tavern must be included in the gastronomic tour of the public places of Mezhvodnoye.

If you search on the Internet for people's opinions about Mezhvodnoye and rest in it, it turns out that not every person has such an experience - only a very small percentage of vacationers arriving on the Crimean peninsula go here. The main motivation of such tourists is either to find the cheapest option for relaxing on the sea, or try to heal with mud.

You won’t be able to find lofty laudatory comments about Mezhvodnoye - it’s just a small village with a minimum of infrastructure, which was just lucky with a good location. If vacationers are undemanding people, they may well like it here, given the calm local situation and affordable prices for all basic services. If you are looking for a village where you could just sunbathe and swim, then it is worth going here - all conditions are met.

Criticism is usually related to the fact that, in the understanding of many people, Mezhvodnoe is not a resort at all. There is no impressive tourist infrastructure here, there is no place to lead a child, you yourself will not have much fun either, and to Evpatoria - 2 hours by bus. Even the balneological area is still very poorly developed, despite the good potential of this place.
