Crimea is diverse in its splendor, in each tutu village you can find something interesting for yourself. The small settlement of Gaspra is very popular among vacationers, as it is located near Yalta.

Description of the village

Gaspra is a resort city, an urban-type settlement in the Yalta municipality of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, territory. It is located on the Black Sea coast, west of Yalta. The population is about 10 310 people. The village is notable for the fact that Leo Tolstoy lived here in 1901 and 1902. Attractions in the immediate vicinity include the Roman character chateau and the romantic Swallow's Nest castle.

Gaspra borders on Koreiz, another village, and it includes Marat and Stroygorodok - small towns. What is remarkable about this place is that here you can relax in a sanatorium, boarding house or health resort. There are enough parks, beaches for vacationers, there are attractive hiking trails and much more.

The infrastructure is well developed. It is here that the warmest climate, if we talk about the territory of Crimea. Juniper-oak forests grow around, Ai-Petri - an impressive mountain range protects from the cold winds of local residents and tourists. Lovers of history and ancient architecture cannot fail to please the village, since attractive heritage sites are located throughout the territory. Here stands the Taurus necropolis, the Haraks fortress and other monuments.

According to some sources, the village appeared only in the XVIII century and since then began to actively develop as the main resort with healing air.The sub-Mediterranean climate is characterized by aridity and heat; winter remains warm. In January, the air temperature remains + 4, and at the height of summer the mark on the thermometer rises to + 25 C. Tourists arrive here from the end of May and leave only at the end of October.

All this time you can enjoy not only the sun, but also the warm sea.

Translated from the Greek "Gaspra" means "white." For the first time this place was mentioned in his notes by the traveler and naturalist P.S. Pallas. From the annals it became known that in 1865 only 201 people lived on the territory of the modern settlement, and a mosque was built. All these people were distributed in 37 courtyards, today you can look at the preserved palaces and chic villas that have become architectural monuments.

Everyone who comes here should visit Golitsin’s mansion called “Romantic Alexandria”. The object can rightfully be considered a real architectural monument of the time with its towers and unusual windows. Another object is remarkable here - "Yasnaya Polyana"where writer Tolstoy lived and recovered from a serious illness. Lev Nikolaevich always spoke well of this place and argued that such a resort was worthy of being visited even by people of high society.

If we talk about the modern heritage, today “Yasnaya Polyana” has become a place where mothers and children are happy to relax. It has equipped facilities for the recovery of children with upper respiratory tract problems, but not tuberculosis. In the past few decades, this place has changed, not only new, modern buildings with high-quality equipment have appeared, but also a cable car that goes directly to the beach. The drawing room in which Tolstoy once lived today is a small museum with the writer's notes on this place.

There are many other sanatoriums here, you can take a course of viticulture, almost all year round guests receive radon and carbon dioxide baths. It is surprisingly simple and easy to breathe, so even the air is considered incredibly useful. Two weeks a year is enough to put your lungs in order. There are no large numbers of hotels in the village, most often these are private houses, where the friendly owners offer well-decorated, comfortable apartments.

Interesting places

Attractions are both on the territory of the settlement, and in its environs. If you come here for rest and treatment, you should definitely visit several main places.

Haraks Palace

The palace was built "in the Scottish style." A small estate of Harakov was inherited by Prince George Mikhailovich. It was located on Cape Ai-Todor, rocks that are distinguished by special splendor. Earlier there was the Roman fortress Haraks (I-III centuries), today it is only the ruins that are nearby. Haraksky park today attracts no less attention of tourists.

The construction of the described object was carried out in parallel with how they built a pool with drinking water and organized a local park. The object fits perfectly into the surrounding Crimean landscape. The outlines of the sharp red tiled roofs, the graceful shapes and the correct proportions that the structure possesses, are perfectly combined with the towering Ai-Petri teeth.

Previously, it was one of the fortified settlements of the Roman troops that appeared in Taurus in 63-66. The fortress controlled shipping off the coast of Crimea, where a sea route was laid from the Bosphorus and Chersonesos in Sinope to Trabzon. In 244, after the attack, Roman troops were evacuated from Haraks, and the fortress was destroyed. Archaeological research began in the 19th century on the initiative of Grand Duke George Mikhailovich Romanov, who owned the Ai-Todor estate.

Now the object is open for visits by organized groups of tourists.

Countess Panin's Palace

The estate of Countess Panina is not as famous as a monument of architecture, like some others.This is because the object is located in the heart of the city, and therefore far from the sea. You must come here specially to enjoy Gothic architecture. The building is 180 years old, it is worth saying that the palace appeared here much earlier than even Yalta received the status of a city.

Like some other monuments, this palace was erected by Golitsyn. They approached the erection very responsibly, since many objects were rejected at the first stage of consideration. As a result, Montferrand, the man who built St. Isaac's Cathedral, was involved in the construction. In 1836 the building was ready, an attractive park was organized around.

Here, at one time, Nikolai 1 and the poet Zhukovsky visited.

Park cairo

Translated from the Crimean Tatar name of the park means "mountain meadow". It is not surprising, since from ancient times, local settlers were looking for fertile land for growing agricultural crops. To ennoble the land, juniper groves had to be cut down, and local meadows appeared. Actively grown not only vegetables, but also cereal, fruit trees.

This is how the park, popular in our time, was formed.

In 1902, the construction of the Chair villa began, where the Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich lived. Around it began to create an attractive park where I would like to spend a pleasant time in the shade of trees. It had to correspond to the high status of the people living here, so it was decided to invite the architect Novichkov, who was able to radically change the local landscape. Old and diseased trees were removed, new ones were planted in an even strip. Appeared:

  • bushes of exotic plants;
  • trees with fruit;
  • Especially a lot of rose bushes were planted.

What to see in the vicinity?

Definitely worth a look around the estate. "Bird home", located right on the edge of a rocky cliff above the ocean. This place is one of the most popular attractions in the region and the most recognizable symbols of Crimea. The castle, built in 1912 by a wealthy German, boasts rich neo-Gothic architecture. It is definitely worth a visit to the estate and take a look at the railing from a 40-meter cliff that descends directly into the Black Sea.

Tourists love to wander around this area. It offers amazing panoramic views. The most beautiful photos are taken from here. It should be borne in mind that the road from the parking lot to the building is quite long, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. All tourists are advised to add this object to the excursion program, since the impressions of it are unforgettable.
