Sevastopol is a city of military glory, a city of the Russian fleet. Many brilliant victories and historical events occurred on its territory. Description of the city
Sevastopol is a subject of the Russian Federation. To find it on the map, you need to look at the Black Sea, in its northern part. The town is located under Simferopol, on the Crimean peninsula, from where it is easy to get through Bakhchisaray. Everything that is in the territory of Sevastopol is in one way or another connected with military history. The city has a little more than 250 years, but during all this time it was completely destroyed twice. The first wave of destruction swept in 1855, then only a dozen buildings remained from Sevastopol. The second happened in 1941.
The date of laying the stone of the city is considered to be 1784, with the release of the decree of Empress Catherine. The city rests on the banks of the Heracles (Crimean) peninsula, cut by a large number of bays, which are former river valleys.The longest region is Northern Bay, over 9 km long. Pokrovsky Cathedral
Sevastopol Cathedral is a bright representative of one of the directions in the church architecture of the 19th century. After the revolution organized by the Bolsheviks, the temple was closed. The doors of the monumental building were again opened during the occupation of Crimea during the Second World War. During the war period, the building was damaged, which were completely renovated in 1948. In the 60s, a sports hall was located on the square of the cathedral. Graf Marina

The second route is a boat trip along the underground channels of the complex. During the voyage, you can consider the service areas of submarines. Panorama "Defense of Sevastopol"
A monumental battle canvas 15 meters high, is located in the exhibition hall in the shape of a circle. The written events tell about the times of the 19th century, about the Crimean War. This creation was created by the hand of F. A. Roubaud. The artist decided to capture the moments of the battles in the area of the Malakhov Hill. The painting was painted by Roubaud in Munich. Mikhailovsky Battery

Sevastopol Art Museum. M.P. Kroshitsky
It is an architectural monument. The complex was designed and built in the 19th century; it is located on Admiral Nakhimov Avenue. The museum is made in the form of three exhibition halls, in which you can see an extensive collection of paintings, various sculptures, graphic works. The works of Renaissance masters, artists of the Flemish school of art are presented. Masterpieces of Russian and European masters of painting since the period of the XVIII century.
Local history
The construction was organized in 1968. The museum is located in the Leninsky district, near the station of the railway station. A century later, scientists managed to recreate the appearance of the ancient city.
Balaklava Bay
A narrow bay hidden by rocky massifs from prying eyes. Balaklava Bay belongs to one of the many picturesque bays of the Black Sea. This area is also difficult to distinguish from the open sea. About 2 thousand years ago, the first human settlements appeared on this territory. For the right to own a plot, wars have constantly raged on its land. The location of the Balaclava allows you to successfully carry out raids, hiding from enemies.
Object 825GTS
Located on the territory of Balaklava Bay. Today it is the former secret facility of the Soviet Union. This facility housed a submarine base with nuclear weapons, ready at any time to strike back.
By 2014, the facility was supposed to house the Cold War Dungeons museum, but this did not happen.
Mole Object
The facility is located underground, was built in 1930. Initially, according to the idea, a power station should have been located on its territory, but the outbreak of war in 1941 changed construction plans. In peacetime, the construction of the facility resumed. Until now, it has not been completed. Concrete labyrinths are frozen until ideas for their application are invented.
Genoese fortress "Chembalo"
This building is also located on the territory of Balaklava Bay. However, only parts of the fortified walls, the ruins of the towers, and the temple reached us. Previously, there was a lively trade. A commercial settlement was founded by natives of Genoa. In the territory of Crimea, you can find three such buildings. One is located in Sudak, the other in Feodosia and the third in Balaklava. When the area came under the control of the Ottoman Empire, all complexes fell into decay.
Chorgunsky aqueduct bridge
The construction was erected in the 19th century on the Chernaya River. The bridge was partially used as a water supply. The length of the structure reaches 14 meters. At the end of the Crimean War, the water supply for the aqueduct was stopped, part of the bridge was destroyed.
St. George's Rock
The rock is located one and a half kilometers from Cape Fiolent. At the top there is a cross established in memory of St. George the Victorious. Going down the mountain, you get to Jasper beach, which rightfully bears the name of one of the best in the Crimea. The coastline of the beach is strewn with small pebbles of various colors. The water is clean, clear.
Having risen from the beach along the 800-step staircase, you can get to St. George's Monastery.
Cape aya
In 1900-1915, the remains of a 12th-century settlement were found in the vicinity of the cape. The cape got its name from the Greek word "ayos" - a saint. It has been hypothesized that in ancient times this area was sacred to people who came from Hellas. Another version claims that the cape served as a guide for sea vessels.
Cape Fiolent
The rocky coastline with a colorful view of the Black Sea. On the cape are clean beaches with blue sea water. Tourist routes run along the coast.
Diorama “Storming the Sapun Mountains”
Another major battle painting. The canvas is placed on Sapun-mount in a semicircular exhibition complex. In the center of the hall is an observation deck that allows you to examine in detail the entire composition. The picture tells about the events of 44 years of the XX century.
Inkerman Cave Monastery
The monastery is located right in the cave near Sevastopol. According to one version, the building was built in the period VIII-XV centuries. After the capture of Crimea by the Ottoman Empire, the monastery fell into decay. In the XIX century, his first revival took place, the second came at the end of the collapse of the USSR.
Vladimir Cathedral in Chersonesos
The temple was erected in memory of the baptism of Grand Duke Vladimir. The first building of the temple was made in the Byzantine style and appeared during the reign of Alexander II, but, unfortunately, it was destroyed during the Second World War. Until 2000, the cathedral was in a state of ruin. The reconstruction of the temple took place only in 2004, at the same time it was consecrated.
Palace of childhood and youth
Palaces of childhood and youth were scattered throughout the USSR, in which children could engage in various sciences, creativity, attend clubs, sports sections and so on. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, these establishments gradually fell into decay and were closed.
However, in Sevastopol the palace does not stop its work, and children aged 5 to 17 years come here to usefully spend their free time.
Ecopark Lukomorye
A place for families.In the park there are: museums, a theater, places for food, attractions and a zoo. The main attractions of the park are the heroes of the tales of A.S. Pushkin. On weekends, holidays Ecopark Lukomorye organizes holidays for children, game shows. The real gem of the park is the southern residence of Santa Claus.
Theater of the Black Sea Fleet
The theater on the orders of Marshal Voroshilov was erected in 1932 and became one of the first professional theaters in the USSR. The military troupe gave performances on ships, ordinary scenes. Basically, all the works were related to the theme of the naval revolution. The theater did not stop its work even during the Second World War. Some of the costumes and decorations were destroyed during the bombing.
Recreation and entertainment
For those who prefer to relax in nature or come for a swim in the warm sea, it is recommended to visit the clean beaches of Sevastopol and explore the natural surroundings of the city. Together with the local you can go to the Maximova Cottage. On sunny days, this place is visited by many people. The forest belt is formed by centuries-old trees, badminton lawns, field hockey. If you have access to vehicles, then you should go to the 17th kilometer.
The site runs along the highway Sevastopol-Yalta. Rest takes place in green clearings, under the noise of deciduous trees. In nature, it is allowed to make bonfires, have picnics, and grill kebabs.
On the left side of this highway is Gasforta Lake. The place is extremely picturesque, and suitable for a civilized vacation. True, entry to the territory is paid, but it is fully equipped with everything necessary for entertainment and recreation.
