Manicure using gel polish owes its popularity to the fact that it is able to stay on the nails for about two weeks. This feature is ensured by the composition with polymers, which, when exposed to ultraviolet rays, form a solid film. Despite the convenience of such a manicure, there is a minus - thickening of the composition. Most often, the gel polish that is used most often becomes too thick. This is due to the proximity to the UV lamp, frequent contact with oxygen and sunlight, which provoke the polymerization process. And also gel polish is also called shellac.
Ways
It is advisable to dilute a thick gel polish no more than once, since this reduces the quality of the coating. When applied, it can roll off, and after cracking, and the color may acquire a dull shade. You can dilute gel polish by various means.
- Alcohol. It is important to note that this method can lead to dry skin and nails, and the applied coating loses its strength.
- Topcoat or clearcoat. At the same time, the quality will not suffer much, but the color will become less saturated. If shellac is only bought and thick and there is no desire to add various means to it, then you can use a little trick. Pour the required number of drops of gel polish onto a piece of foil and add a few drops of the topcoat to them, then mix to the desired consistency. The advantage of this method is that the result is immediately visible.
- Gel polish remover. It is similar in effect to the means for "resuscitation" of shellac, like alcohol, but disposable. Diluted in this way, the gel lies unevenly on the nail, and after a few days is generally unsuitable for further use.
- Special means for dilution. This is ideal because diluent manufacturers have made sure that shellac does not lose its properties and texture. Of the inexpensive brands, Irisk, El Corazon can be distinguished, and of the more expensive segment, Rio Profi, Masura, Severina are the most popular.
You can use a very simple way to make gel polish more liquid at home, without using any means. It is necessary to pour hot water into any container and put a bottle of gel polish there. Water should be poured so that it covers up to the middle of the bottle. Thus, it is enough to hold the bottle for about 2 minutes. If shellac is still thick, then the procedure should be repeated.
Important! In no case can you use regular acetone for dilution - this product is suitable only for classic varnishes, and gel polish will simply spoil it.
How to store?
Although gel polish is durable and durable, unlike regular nail polish, it is also prone to hardening. Although it is possible to dilute thick shellac, it is still better to prevent its drying in time by its proper use and storage. To extend the life of shellac, you must adhere to the following rules for its storage:
- close the lid tightly - with prolonged contact with oxygen, the structure of shellac changes, as a result of which its strength weakens;
- before applying, do not shake the jar, but gently “roll” it in the palms of your hands, as a result of the “shaking” bubbles form, which then do not allow even coverage; if the bubbles nevertheless have formed, it is necessary to open the bottle and leave it in this form until they disappear;
- do not leave shellac residues on the neck of the bottle, but remove them with a lint-free cloth;
- Store in a dark place with a low temperature - the maximum temperature is +26 degrees. Despite numerous recommendations, storing varnish in the refrigerator is still not worth it, since sudden changes in temperature badly affect it;
- Do not place near a UV lamp, microwave or gas stove; the heat that they give off is detrimental to shellac.
Pay attention to the expiration date. Often, the manufacturer indicates two dates: the first means the shelf life before opening the jar, and the second after opening. It is not recommended to purchase gel polishes that have already been opened. Thus, if you allocate a suitable place for storing gel polishes, do not forget to put them in place on time, then they will last a long time. To dilute thickened varnish, the optimal solution is to use a special liquid.
