The reasons that prompted you to create fashionable scuffs on jeans can be very different. Whether it's the desire to make your outdated trousers more stylish or the attempt to give inadvertently torn jeans a second chance.

This must be done correctly! And how to achieve the effect of antiquity on jeans - perfectly new or well-worn - we will tell in our article.

Watch the following video, which shows quite easy ways to turn old jeans into fashionable ones.

What jeans are worth wearing on?

If you think that absolutely any denim pants are ready for such metamorphoses, you are mistaken. The list of prohibitions is small, but pay attention to it.

The following jeans cannot be shredded:

  • too thin jeans material (will not hold shape);
  • from strongly stretch fabrics (they will quickly spread, they will look very messy);
  • wide, shapeless, irrelevant style (even this stylish element will not make them fashionable).

As for the permitted material, then any denim of medium and high density will become a win-win option.

It doesn’t matter which jeans you decide to cover with artificial scuffs - new or old. Their age and degree of deterioration will not simplify or complicate the task. Much work remains to be done. And how exactly this happens, learn further.

Popular methods

There are many techniques and tricks to create a fashionable effect of antiquity on jeans. Consider the most popular and proven.

Option One - Emery and Tweezers

To use this method, prepare the following materials:

  • a sheet of fine-grained sandpaper (in the absence, you can replace it with a hard pumice stone or a fine kitchen grater);
  • eyebrow tweezers (or a crochet hook - it is more convenient for someone to wield it);
  • sharpened chalk (remnant, or even a pencil / pen).

Then proceed to work, adhering to our algorithm.

  1. Designate on the jeans the places of future fashionable touches. To do this, take the chalk (remnant / pen / pencil) and draw marks in the appropriate places. In order not to miscalculate with outlines, you can put on jeans before yourself. Ideal are those places in which jeans are most often wiped themselves. Do not limit yourself to the front of your pants. The rear pockets are also a great place for stylish scuffs.
  2. Before directly making scuffs as planned, it is advisable to moisten the jeans (wet and squeeze). Therefore, it is best to make marks with a pen. Although crayons are also quite persistent. Now you can walk through the sandpaper or grater in the marked areas. If you want a more ragged effect, make a small cut in the middle of each mark.
  3. Now we use tweezers or a hook. Each abrasion needs to be processed as follows: gradually remove transverse threads (blue) from them. At the same time, it is important to strictly leave all longitudinal threads (white) in place.
  4. The final step in such a metamorphosis of jeans is machine wash. She will bring the aging process to its logical conclusion.

Option Two - “White to the Rescue”

This method implies that you will not have to apply any physical violence to jeans. The effect of scuffs will be achieved due to optical reception - bleaching of some areas on jeans fabric. And such arts can be achieved by two different techniques.

Brush whitening

For such a bold art experiment, stock up on the following tools:

  • a brush for painting (No. 3 or No. 5, a pony or a squirrel - decide for yourself; an alternative tool is an ordinary sponge for washing dishes);
  • wash basin for medium size;
  • bleach;
  • a piece of hard cardboard or plywood (to fit jeans under the treated area);
  • latex gloves.

When everything you need is ready, proceed to this creative process, guided by our instructions:

  1. In a basin, dilute the bleaching agent with water in a ratio of 1: 1.
  2. As soon as the places of manufactured “scuffs” are marked (for this you can use paragraph 1 of the manual described above), put cardboard or plywood under them. These manipulations are precautionary measures (so that “scuffs” do not turn out where they should not).
  3. Put on gloves and start applying the solution to jeans using the selected tool (brush or sponge).
  4. Review the maximum allowable exposure time for your bleach fabric. You will find all the necessary information on its packaging. And let the tool stay on jeans for the necessary time (according to the instructions).
  5. After the required time, carefully rinse the pants in cold water, then dry (it is better to use a few rinses with intermediate and final spin in the washing machine). At the exit, you should get jeans with a visual imitation of scuffs, but the integrity of the tissues will remain intact.
  6. If you wish, you can combine this method with the option described earlier. In this case, bleach the damaged areas of jeans, as shown in the instructions for the first method of making scuffs on jeans.

Another way to artificially age jeans with bleach is clotting.

This technique will help not only to imitate scuffs, but also to create a fashionable print around the perimeter of all jeans, on both sides!

You will need:

  • wash basin for medium size;
  • bleach;
  • elastic bands for hair (white color);
  • latex gloves.

The beauty of this method is that it can be called an alternative for the lazy. There is no need to outline and to figure out - everything is done “by eye”, because the charm of such a decor is precisely in abstraction and confusion.

The action algorithm is simple:

  1. Tie the jeans in a knot as shown in the photo. In some places, randomly drag small bundles of denim with elastic bands.
  2. Moisten the resulting bundle under clean running water.
  3. Wear rubber gloves and place the jeans in a mixture of water and bleach (1: 1) for the time allowed by the instructions.
  4. After the required time has elapsed, rinse the jeans under running water, gradually removing the elastic bands and straightening the knot. Then rinse and dry in a typewriter.
  5. After drying, you will find jeans, transformed beyond recognition!

Tips

Anyone who is going to be wearing jeans for the first time should get acquainted with these important recommendations:

  • If you don’t feel confident enough, exercise first on an unnecessary piece of jeans. In order to fully fill your hand in this business, you can specially buy a pair of unnecessary jeans in a second hand for such a case.
  • During artificial aging, avoid processing jeans in the seam area - this can lead to the fact that they creep in the most inappropriate place.
  • Scuffs with bleach can be varied, then treating them with fabric dye. This guarantees an even more original and unique fashion effect.
  • Vertical oblong scuffs can visually lengthen the legs, adjust the figure.
  • Abrasion jeans need to be strengthened to last longer. To do this, treat them from the inside with non-woven or any other soft adhesive cloth.
