It is not known who and when first began to wear ripped jeans as a kind of fashionable "chip", but this man gained many followers around the world. It is difficult to unequivocally answer the question of why holey denim pants have gained such popularity. For some, they have become a means of self-expression, for some they have become a stylish element of clothing, and someone admits that the holes provide excellent ventilation of the body in the hot season.
One way or another, today leaky jeans are an unconditional fashion trend. In this article, we will tell you about how to get such a thing without harming your wallet.
Where do they make holes?
How is an ordinary hole different from a brand one?
Walking around the malls, you probably noticed that branded ripped jeans are sometimes much more expensive than whole pants from the same manufacturer.And the difference between them and trousers from an ordinary economy class store can be several tens of thousands of rubles. It is quite natural that the question arises in the head: “How are the holes specially made at the production stage so different from those that appeared by chance?”
For example, branded jeans are torn so that underwear is not visible through the holes
In fact, the difference is not so great. Only the place where the gap and its shape appeared is of significance. The holes in these pants look careless, but you can see that their edges are carefully crafted, and the fabric around it has a worn effect. You can achieve a similar effect at home: read more about this below.
Step-by-step instruction: make a hole with your own hands
First you need to stock up with the necessary tools. So, to make beautiful holes in jeans we may need:
- actually jeans (for the first time it is better to choose already worn pants, or a new thing from an inexpensive company);
- sharp scissors;
- a well-sharpened knife or clerical cutter;
- sewing spreader;
- thick cardboard or a piece of plywood board;
- pumice, nail file or sandpaper;
- Wax crayon, soap or washable marker.
Next, you need to choose the places in which we will make holes. We note future tears right on the fabric.
Now you need to make a small cut somewhere in an inconspicuous place and consider the weaving of the fabric. Denim consists of white and colored threads that are perpendicular to each other. We need to know how the white threads go - horizontally or vertically so as not to accidentally damage them.
Getting to work on the first hole. Armed with a knife, in one motion we make a cut that runs parallel to the white threads. Then, after a few centimeters from it, we make a second cut (in order not to cut through the jeans, put a piece of cardboard in the leg).
Now you need to carefully stretch all the white threads between the two cuts without tearing them. Blue threads are simply pulled out and cut. It is most convenient to pull and cut the threads with the help of a special sewing tool - a spreader.
As a result, we got a neat rectangular gap. With a little training, you can learn how to make holes in the form of various shapes. To prevent the gap from spreading, we sew it along the edges with threads matching the tone of jeans.
How to make a hole beautifully if jeans are torn by yourself?
If your favorite jeans are torn, there may be several solutions to the problem. The hole that appears in an inconspicuous place can be carefully darned.
If the seam will be striking, it is better to choose a different method, for example, sew an applique or patch from another material onto the torn area.
Another good option is to give the “random” hole the look of a stylish decor element. First, the gap needs to be carefully cut to a suitable size. Then remove the sticking blue threads and pull out the white ones.
Lace peeping through the gap will look spectacular.
Lace patches should be sewn on the wrong side of the jeans
Bleached slots
Fashion manufacturers often use a technique such as whitening denim. Such things have the appearance of being worn for many years, but in reality they are completely new. Whitened areas on holey jeans look especially impressive. To make such an unusual decor is quite possible with your own hands.
At home, the most affordable means for bleaching fabrics are chlorine-based bleaches. To whiten small areas on jeans, you need only a few milliliters of chlorinated product. A small amount of bleach should be applied to the sponge, and then blot it with tissue around the holes.
Leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with plenty of warm water (or better yet, put your pants in the washing machine).
To avoid chemical burns on the skin, work with rubber gloves
Add the scuff effect
You can create the appearance of aged jeans not only with the help of chemicals, but also mechanically. To get scuffs on the fabric, it is enough to simply process it with an improvised tool with an abrasive effect. Usually, manicure tools or sandpaper are used for this purpose.
Before starting work, jeans should be wet and put something solid inside the leg, otherwise instead of spectacular scuffs, you will get through holes. On wet jeans, the result will be faster, just remember to squeeze your pants well. Do not rub it too much, until the fabric noticeably brightens. With pumice, you can make very weak, neat scuffs.
The smaller the grain on a nail file or sandpaper, the more time it will take
