Showers appeared on the Russian market almost 20 years ago and over the years have managed to take root firmly in plumbing stores and in the apartments of our compatriots. And also over the years a lot of varieties of cabins and even more different models have appeared. In this article we will look at the type of shower with a swing door. We will talk about the pros and cons, all kinds of shapes and sizes, and also advise how to choose the right cabin for your bathroom.

Advantages and disadvantages

Before you start a conversation about the features of cabs with swing doors, It is worth talking about the main varieties of all showers:

  • closed - classic sealed cabins, which can be installed not only in the bathroom, but in any other room;
  • open - compact models without one or two walls and a roof, designed for placement in bathrooms with a small area;
  • combined - expensive cabs combining the qualities of previous options.

Each variety has its own advantages and disadvantages of design, but today we will talk about the pros and cons of such an element as swing doors used in different types of shower cabins.

Pros:

  • practicality - unlike sliding doors, swinging rails cannot break, and the door does not jam;
  • tightness - such a door is closed tightly and without a rubber gasket, which can wear out, and then the water will pour out;
  • shock resistance - doors are made of durable glass, which is difficult to damage;
  • ease of repair - if damaged, the swing door is easy to replace;
  • cheapness - cabs with swing doors have a lower price than models with sliding doors.

But there were some minuses:

  • a shower cabin with a hinged door can only be located in a spacious bathroom, since a certain free space is required for the door to open wide without touching anything;
  • if the hinges are made of powder metal, they will constantly break due to the weight of the door itself.

As you can see, there are not many shortcomings, and they are not so significant. If your bathroom has enough space, they are easily compensated for by virtues.

Materials

Doors of shower cabins can have additional pros and cons depending on the material that was used for their manufacture. To date, 4 types of raw materials are used for these purposes.

  • Glass - the easiest option. It differs from window panes in increased thickness, not less than 5 mm. The main advantage of the material is that mold does not form on the glass.
  • Plexiglass - outwardly similar to ordinary glass, the same transparent. But it weighs much less, but it is characterized by increased strength. However, scratches can easily appear on the surface of plexiglass, which cannot be removed.
  • Polystyrene - has a lot in common with ordinary plastic. Hence the corresponding disadvantages: the need for thorough care, a short service life and others. The advantages include low price, low weight and moisture resistance.
  • Triplex glass - the most expensive material, but the most durable. This is due to design features. The material consists of two layers of tempered glass, between which there is a reinforcing film.

An ideal option has not yet been found. Even the most controversial polystyrene can be used in certain situations. And the choice, as always, is yours.

Shapes and sizes

When choosing a shower cabin, the buyer first of all pays attention to its dimensions and shape. IN Depending on the model, the shape may be:

  • square or rectangular;
  • pentagonal or hexagonal;
  • asymmetric;
  • semicircular.

The sizes are more diverse. In this regard, buyers are waiting for, indeed, a wide selection. The main thing is that the bathroom has enough space to accommodate the desired option.

For example, square and semicircular cabins have equal dimensions: 80x80 cm, 90x90 cm, 100x100 cm. Rectangular models can be narrow, but elongated in length: 140x40 cm, 150x85 cm. For asymmetric cabs, the dimensions are more non-standard: 110x80 cm, 122x76 cm, 130x85 cm.

The options and combinations available are endless. There are even very spacious showers with dimensions of 1.5x1.5 meters.

Manufacturers

The brand plays an important role in choosing plumbing. Many of our compatriots do not take this factor into account and are chasing cheapness. However, often this ends with a quick failure of the acquisition and the cost of even more money.

If you want to be sure of the quality of the shower, pay attention to well-known manufacturers from several countries.

Germany - known for its German quality, especially in the production of various household appliances, electronics and plumbing:

  • Westerhof;
  • Hansgrohe;
  • Edelform.

Italy - these manufacturers are also widely known in Europe and abroad, and their products are in no way inferior in quality to German ones:

  • Albatros;
  • Jacuzzi;
  • Cerutti.

China - has many virtually unknown manufacturers that produce low-quality sanitary ware at very low prices. But for a reasonable price you can find quite acceptable cabins. The following manufacturers deserve trust:

  • Fresh
  • Apollo;
  • Baraka.

Russia - domestic manufacturers offer Russian residents very good plumbing at affordable prices:

  • “Aquatica”;
  • Aqualife
  • Doctor Jet.

But this is only a small part of the companies existing on the market that produce high-quality showers. You can easily find other models of other brands.And so as not to make a mistake when choosing, check out our tips.

How to choose?

First of all, you need to consider your financial capabilities. Manufacturing materials, a set of functions and dimensions will depend on the cost of the cabin. Then you need to evaluate your free area. The operation of the shower cabin should not cause any difficulties, like a swing door that does not fully open.

If you are a little lover of various water procedures, and you need a shower only for hygiene, you should choose the simplest model so as not to overpay for unnecessary opportunities. And if you go to the shower, like a massage parlor, a large set of additional functions will be very handy.

In the case of a small bathroom, it is better to choose an open corner cabin. However, it will be unreasonable to take a model with a swing door. Sliding doors save space. And if the bathroom has an area of more than 8 square meters, you can afford any kind.

Always familiarize yourself with the technical requirements of the cabin before making a purchase. Water pressure is especially important. On the upper floors of buildings starting from the 9th, it may not be enough.

Carefully inspect every detail, every detail of the cab. One low-quality structural element can damage a whole shower. For example, the electronics will fail, the hinges on the door will break, or a crack will appear on the pallet.

A choice of showers with one or two doors. The second option is more convenient, but it needs more free space.

The appearance of the cabin should also organically fit into the overall interior of the room.

Care

Due to constant contact with water, shower stalls lose their original appearance over time. The fact is that tap water contains many substances and impurities that adversely affect the material of manufacture. To prevent this from happening, you need to regularly take care of the cabin. It is advisable to do this after each shower. This will not only save a presentable appearance, but also increase the service life.

To reduce the amount of salts and minerals in the water, special coarse and fine filters can be installed.

When choosing cleaning products it is necessary to exclude all abrasive substances that can damage any of the materials that make up the shower cabin. You can no longer get rid of the scratches that have appeared. The same goes for hard brushes.

In order to choose a cleaning product that is suitable for your cab, you need to find out what materials it consists of and what features they have.

If the bathroom has forced ventilation, the moisture level will be significantly reduced, and with it the appearance of a harmful fungus. If there is no ventilation, chemicals can be used for prophylaxis.

It should be borne in mind that imported cabins are designed for softer water than that which comes from domestic water supply systems. So, in the harsh Russian conditions, they will need more thorough care.

The choice of a shower cabin is a difficult and very responsible matter. But if you take into account all our recommendations and find your model, it will serve you faithfully for many years, satisfying all your needs.
