It is no secret that in typical high-rise buildings, bathrooms represent a rather small space, therefore apartment owners decide to install hydroboxes - showers in their bathrooms. When planning such a purchase, you should find out the standard dimensions of the structure and decide in advance which configuration and height of the pallet should be preferred.

We will talk about all these points in our article - we hope our information will allow you to make the right choice and help to equip an ergonomic and comfortable bathroom.

Why are dimensions important?

When choosing sanitary equipment for a shower room, you need to compare its dimensions with the footage of the washing room, as well as calculate the total number of household appliances with the necessary furniture and measure the parameters of their location. Only with an integrated approach can you correctly and competently equip your bathroom, make finding it convenient and at the same time fit all the items needed for hygiene procedures.

For small bathrooms, a shower cabin is considered a good solution. With the correct calculation of its dimensions and shape, the use of such a design will save the usable area of the room.

Even before acquiring a shower cabin, the footage of the bathroom should be calculated, since the difficulties of placing the structure in the bathroom entail the need to replace it, as a result, additional funds will have to be spent on transportation and loading.

It happens that the pan bowl does not stand in the area prepared for it, and the wings, even if you remove the visor from them, do not fit in the room in height. In some hydroboxes, the height of the pallet does not exceed 40 cm, therefore, with standard cabin walls - 175 cm, the height of the structure corresponds to 115 cm. Given the need to leave at least 15-25 cm to the ceiling, it turns out that the length of the walls in the room should start from 235 cm or more, otherwise the design simply will not fit in it.

Not every bathroom has such a size - it is better for the owners of such bathrooms to pay attention to the ergonomic compact models of hydroboxes.

As for the width of the shower cabins, in the standard version it is approximately 80-95 cm - a design of this size can easily fit in almost every bathroom, while models with a bathtub and shower can only be afforded by owners of a spacious washroom.

Standard values

Nowadays, trade enterprises offer a large assortment of hydroboxes of the most diverse shapes and sizes with minimum, maximum and typical parameters. Everyone can choose a model of a suitable size so that it fits into any space ergonomically.

The vast majority of manufacturers are focused on the production of standardized shower cabins, both in their form and in size. When dividing all the models of hydroboxes for sale by size, the following types can be distinguished:

  • small - the width of the walls in these installations is not more than 90 cm;
  • medium - the length of these products varies in the range from 90 to 120 cm;
  • large - the width of the walls of such boxes corresponds to 130-170 cm.

However, there are hydroboxes with even more impressive parameters, but their release is limited.

The height of the cabs also has its own distinctive characteristics, according to this parameter, the hydroboxes are divided into 2 types:

  • low - in this case, the length of the walls of the box with the pallet is approximately 180-200 cm;
  • high - cabin height reaches 240 and more centimeters.

Cabin owners measuring 190-200 cm are in maximum demand among owners of residential premises. The smallest boxes have a height of 170-180 cm and a maximum wall width of 75 cm. As a rule, such models are executed symmetrically in the form of a square, they are often placed in small families, in work houses and wagons. For spacious installations, there are no restrictions on length, height and width.

The most common hydroboxing options are products with equal sides. The most miniature models are constructions with parameters of 70 x 70 cm, as well as 80 x 80 cm. However, an adult, especially a large physique, will not be comfortable swimming in such a booth, therefore models with dimensions of 90 x 90 cm and 100 x 100 cm are recognized as the most popular and bought. Such hydroboxes fit into any bathroom, ergonomically zone the space and allow a person of any height and body weight with the convenience of taking hygiene procedures.

Typical models are presented in stores in the widest assortment: they can have rounded and flat sashes, doors of different types, colored, frosted, and also transparent glasses. Thus, you can choose the best model for any design and style of the bathroom.

In bathrooms, shower cubicles are most often placed, the width and depth parameters of which begin from 120 cm, and the length reaches 230-250 cm.

Custom dimensions

Even with a wide selection of the most diverse hydroboxes, far from any bathroom you can put a standard size cabin. The location of the rest of the plumbing, utilities, as well as furniture, door leaves and other elements may prevent this.

If standard sized hydroboxes block the approach to the rest of the bathroom and make it difficult to operate, you can order shower stalls of non-standard sizes and shapes. For example, often there is a need to put cabins with an oval or trapezoidal pallet. Rarely found sizes also include installations with parameters 110 x 85 cm, 140 x 85 cm, 150 x 85 cm or 170 x 110 cm.

It should be noted that equipment made by individual standards will cost much more, but it will allow you to choose the most suitable cabin size. That is why non-standard hydroboxes are always in high demand.

Nowadays there are no official standards and restrictions regarding the shapes, varieties and sizes of showers. The only exception is for products installed in public places. Initially, booths with a high pallet were installed in all kinds of health centers, so special regulations were in force for them. Today, for the boxes used in hospitals, preschool, sports and other municipal institutions, the SNiP 2.09.04-87, established by law, also applies.

Selection tips

When buying plumbing, do a mini test. Even in a trading company, go into the hydrobox and move in it, depict body washing: raise your hands, bend over, as if to take a fallen bar of soap. If you do not feel any discomfort, then this shower cabin is suitable for you. If the movements are chained, then it is worth looking at the model a little larger.

If you already have a bath bowl in your bathroom and don’t want to completely abandon it, then purchase an ordinary shower rack with partitions, which can be transformed into a hydrobox. Wherein it is important to take into account that the typical height of the bowl is 60-70 cm and the length of the shower column is 170, in this case, the height of the room should be at least 250 cm.

If your bathroom cannot boast of sufficient dimensions, it is better to look at other models.

    Hydroboxes can be placed on pallets with low or high sides, the height of the first is 10 cm, the length of the second is 40-60 cm. Models of the first type are placed almost on the floor, but then a siphon and sewer pipes should be placed behind them. Models with inflated sides can only be installed in spacious bathrooms.

    A shower cabin may not have back walls at all, while the walls of the room take on their role. Typically, these models are placed on low pallets, these booths are very compact in size, starting from 70x70 cm, and the length does not exceed 200 cm. Keep in mind: this type of booth can only be used as a shower if you intend to combine a shower with a bath, it makes sense to stop the choice on closed hydroboxes with a high pallet.

    In conclusion, we note that the convenience of hygiene in your bathroom is an important point for all family members, so try before making a purchasing decision several times to take measurements of all the furniture and sanitary ware in the bathroom in order to choose the optimum hydrobox.
