Viking Cinema Park is a place that is difficult to compare with anything. A unique object, which today has become another attractive travel destination in the Crimea. This is not just an attraction, theater or amusement park, but a cultural and historical complex that has no analogues. Tourists go to the peninsula not only to see the legendary historical sites. They are witnessing the popularization of new, modern, unique. Such is the Viking village.

Description and history of creation

Attracted by the name itself - film park. This is one of the largest European film parks. What does the movie have to do with it? The object is associated with the sensational historical films “Viking”, in the main role of which Danila Kozlovsky starred.

Even skeptics, even before watching, condemning the very idea of making a film about Prince Vladimir and the baptism of Russia, still watched a movie - it was interesting to know how realistic the creators of really old times would show.

The work on the blockbuster of Andrei Kravchuk was long: 7 years of shooting took place (along with preparation for the process). Part of the scenes was shot in the Crimea.

About a third of all the scenery is built on the site, which today is called the movie park, or the village of the Vikings.

All buildings required historical accuracy: a group of historians oversaw their creation. This was not just for realism - the authors wanted to show how and where the people of that time lived. To make the world of painting come to life, the creators of the project studied not only dozens, but hundreds of scientific works, studied museum collections in Pskov, Novgorod, Kiev, as well as national museums in Sweden, Norway, Iceland, and Denmark.

The film was shot in several places: at the Glavkino studio (Moscow region), in the steppes near Simferopol, at the Belogorsk reservoir (also in the Crimea). The director himself, regarding the choice of filming in Crimea, said that the film crew needed large natural sites with beautiful views, and the nature of Crimea was ideal for this.

The scenery, drakkar and some of the props of the famous film were transferred to the Viking Cinema Park, which will celebrate its third anniversary in the summer of 2019. And today, every tourist can open the gates of the Crimean park, in which there is a feeling that the time machine was still invented.

Where is it and how to get there?

In the Crimea, 30 kilometers from Simferopol, a city of the past was built. Literally in an open field in the Kizil-Koba valley on six hectares there is an art object that is interesting for adults and children. By the way, if you are going to the famous Crimean waterfall Su-Uchkhan, then it’s worth nothing to go to the Viking village, all this is nearby.

From Simferopol from any station buses or trolleybuses go here: choose the direction "Simferopol-Alushta", stop "Red Caves" (another name is "Stadium"). Cross the road, and there you will find signs. From Alushta, the path will be the opposite.

The official address of the cinema park: Simferopol district, Perevalnoye village, Stadionnaya street, 15.

Entertainment and activities

The object is rightly called the cultural-historical center: it more than illustratively tells about the history of Russia, and the basis of these stories is the oldest surviving chronicle code “The Tale of Bygone Years”.

The Viking Village recreates the events of 862 and subsequent years: the calling of the Varangians, the parish of the Rurikovich, the Baptism of Russia. Habits, customs, crafts, games of the people who inhabited the territory of Russia in the IX-XI centuries are presented here. In this place, historical vacation merges with adventure. Everyone here will find something for their interests.

A varied program awaits visitors:

  • historical tour of the medieval city;
  • theatrical battles;
  • visit to the water mill;
  • more than five dozen structures and objects that are made in the style of architecture of the early Middle Ages;
  • contact zoo, where many pets can even be stroked;
  • participation in quests;
  • visit to the Honey House of Prince Vladimir.

Evening programs from daytime can differ in the organization of a fire show, a big fire, an assault on the gates and the capture of the city (theatrical, of course).

Many excursions are organized as an exciting history lesson with a complete immersion in the era. The fortress gates and the stockade hide the house of the king, an authentic market, the homes of artisans, a forge, an armory, a shooting range. Those who wish can try on Viking armor, they can even throw a spear. Particularly brave ones fight on battle axes, shoot from a bow. Finally, you can visit the medieval restaurant and feed the whole family.

A day in the park begins unusually and continues according to an exciting scenario. Only approaching the park, you already notice the roofs of buildings and the tops of watchtowers, overcome an authentic wooden bridge, and outside the gate you are met by staff. Previously, visitors who bought a ticket received a bag of pebbles (local currency), now this notion has been replaced with a traditional ruble payment.

You will have a map with which you can explore the Borg. The card is on the back of the ticket: it is detailed and understandable. But if an independent tour does not appeal to you, you can go for a walk with a guide and listen to an interesting story by a professional. If you feel that you are not so strong in history to understand what kind of objects are in front of you, it is better to turn to a guide.

But there is something to learn: how did the Vikings live, what was their life like? How were houses built? What did the wives and children of the Vikings do? And after the tour you can walk around the territory yourself, take photos and videos as a keepsake.You will surely like the fisherman’s house and patio, the wood carving house, and the tanning house.

All these objects are beautiful as the keepers of ancient crafts, many of which are actively reviving today, gaining a new life. The grove, church and stands are also interesting places to visit. What about a bakery? What about pottery? Here is a really gorgeous reconstruction of an ancient village.

  • Byzantine cuisine. In this section, dishes are included in the history of cooking. For example, lycos is a famous Greek soup where meat, noodles and greens are combined in the best way possible. Or Aegir’s ear - the most fragrant, fragrant soup that you want to eat to the last drop.
  • Salads. “Greek”, “Byzantine”, “Odyssey”, “Poseidon”, “Kronos”, “Siren” - these are the only names!

    But not only food will remain a gastronomic experience after visiting the cinema park. In the shop you can buy Crimean herbs and teas that will warm you at home as the best fragrant reminder of the peninsula.
